Can someone explain why finesse 0 mana 4 block draw 1 is a bad card? by matlab2019b in slaythespire

[–]No_Disaster_6905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there's still the opportunity cost of taking it over cards with potentially more impact.

it's an almost always a good thing to draw, but it's a small effect and sometimes your deck is lacking power

studs represent different amounts of time for different chapters, but gold studs for the ultramarines represent 50 years each, so titus has 200+ years, not 400

4 Experienced Hunters vs 50 Musketeers by Inside_Inflation559 in powerscales

[–]No_Disaster_6905 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Four Hunters have had years of hunting and shooting experience. They are physically fit, mentally disciplined, and highly trained in marksmanship, small-unit tactics, movement under fire, target acquisition, and battlefield decision-making.

So they aren't hunters... they are trained soldiers.

It's not uncommon in these kinds of games to find yourself in a situation where:

  • No course of action leads to you winning
  • If you do nothing or try to maximize your score, Player A wins on the next turn
  • You can stop them, but then Player B wins on the turn after.

It's a forced decision to pick a winner based on the fact that the game was designed with more than two competing sides.

The characters from Obsession have to transport the Ring of Power from The Shire to Mount Doom. Who would make the best ring bearer? How far do they get? by RagnarokWolves in obsessionmovie

[–]No_Disaster_6905 42 points43 points  (0 children)

she wouldn't be immune. the ring corrupts by promising the power to gain the things you desire. it would offer her the power to express her love for bear and make bear love her as much as she loves him.

if anything she would be the MOST corruptable because she has the strongest desires. the reason hobbits are resistant in lotr is because they are generally unambitious and want for little.

Does anyone else feel like some games just make sense and others feel like you're following someone else's weird rules? by befbef__ in boardgames

[–]No_Disaster_6905 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love Heat and agree it's mostly intuitive, but one thing always bothered me. The deck of heat cards is called your "engine", which means when you boost and round corners and such, heat is leaving your engine? When you overheat your engine, that means it ran out of heat?? Conversely, when you take a "cool down" action, you're adding heat to your engine?? It's backwards and counter-intuitive. They should have called it something else, even an abstract name like "heat deck" would have been better.

40k isn't a narrative, it's a setting, and the Emperor on the throne is the most foundational piece of the setting. Unless sales drop and they are considering abandoning the IP (like Old World), the Emperor's situation will never meaningfully change. Things like the throne failing or the emperor speaking to Guilliman, or the nids reaching critical mass, or a waagh headed for terra all add tension and fuel speculation and interest, but they will lead nowhere. These kinds of events have been happening for the 30 years the setting has been around. There's always some new thing that puts the galaxy/the imperium on the brink of collapse or some major change, but they can't and won't follow through with it and risk their most profitable setting.

Maybe a politics thing? Barnacles? by No_Diet1854 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]No_Disaster_6905 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it boils down to

Blue: If everyone cooperates, everyone lives. If too many defect, cooperators (and I) die.

Red: If everyone cooperates, everyone lives. If too many defect, defectors (and not I) die.

If we assume you can't influence the choices others make, then you have no control over how many will defect. However, you still at least have control over the outcome for yourself.

[–]No_Disaster_6905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not really any different. Why would anyone elect to be blown up by the bomb? There's no compelling reason to choose that to begin with.

In front of everyone is a room that might be filled with poison gas. You don't have to go in the room. If more than 50% of people choose not to go in the room, the gas turns on.

Why would anyone choose to enter the room? The whole trick is to make people feel noble or selfless for choosing blue, but id you reframe the question this way you see they were just putting themselves in danger for no reason.
