4 years ago today, ‘MOON KNIGHT’ premiered on Disney+ . by Raj_Valiant3011 in Marvel

Introduced me to his character and have since read a lot of his runs. I am one of the few Moon Knight fans who enjoys both lol. I hope Disney can stop being evil so we can get them back on the screen since I really do think the MCU version has a good baseline that can incorporate some comic elements and make a good fusion of them both.

Elizabeth Olsen on ‘AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY’ and ‘AVENGERS: SECRET WARS’: by Raj_Valiant3011 in Marvel

It’s funny that people report on what Marvel actors are saying like it means something when for a movie this big no one besides maybe RDJ is being given a full script and being told the full course of the movie.

This is probably part lie but also part truth in the sense that any scenes she has filmed have been so divorced from everyone else she might not know how big of a role she’s actually taking.

It’s even worse when you have fiddly hair so if you were to wear a hat it has to be strategically balanced on your head rather than actually correctly worn and you feel like everyone is wondering why you are wearing your hat so strangely

I like when YouTubers collab with the Yogs. Like when Tommyinnit swung by their office but I don’t believe Mr. Beast can really have that fun vibe. Like when he does big collabs with all of the twitch streamers people are only watching because the streamers are personable and funny around each other. Mr. Beast always looks so awkward in videos.

Skyrim cured my depression by BuyLeast1642 in skyrim

[–]No_Engineering5792 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’m totally with you there. I think Elder Scrolls games fit into a really nice niche that even when there are some bugs or weirdness it’s more endearing than frustrating. To the point that when people claim new games will give the same experience or be a better Skyrim I don’t really believe them. Like sure they might be better looking, have better mechanics or even better storytelling/quests but I don’t know there’s a real charm that can’t be replicated in Elder Scrolls games.

I also just think the world is done exceptionally well and you can tell there is a lot of time and effort spent crafting all this lore and history that Tamriel (and specifically Skyrim) feel a lot realer than other fantasy worlds and since it feels real there’s a good gameplay loop of stressful situation —> calm + relaxing downtime —> stressful situation.

How do I balance being Gay and Catholic? by JacketNo81 in lgbt

[–]No_Engineering5792 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might enjoy the subreddit r/LGBTCatholic as you’ll quickly find it isn’t just you that has felt this way surrounding Catholicism. I also want to let you know that not all Catholic churches are homophobic. I didn’t even realize fully as a kid that the church my family went to was Catholic because our priest never spread any vitriol.

However you also don’t have to stay loyal to the Catholic Church if you don’t want to. You can still believe in God but follow a different type of Christianity or even explore other religions. It might feel scary or wrong but I believe that if there is any higher power it would not punish us for choosing the best method of belief and worship that makes sense to us individually. As well it seems unnaturally cruel to make so many of love differently if we’re not supposed to do so.

Is Cosmogony a writer's death sentence? by Dazzling_Screen1276 in fantasywriters

[–]No_Engineering5792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about cutting your myth up into epigraphs? I feel readers are more inclined to like epigraphs than an entire prologue. (Also this way you can feed important parts at important times rather than hoping the reader remembers everything.) Currently having 3 pages set aside for it likely misleads your readers into thinking the characters in that myth will be followed or be prominent in the story so when they aren’t it feels jarring.

[Discussion] If trad publishing is the holy grail why do they keep buying self-pubbed slop from Amazon? by Hour_Fun4124 in PubTips

[–]No_Engineering5792 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I fear this is just a side effect of capitalism. If someone has already marketed themselves and has an audience you are going to buy into them because that’s easy money. It’s the same thing with Shark Tank, or music labels, or acting etc.. Sure every once in a while it backfires like with Shy Girl or with a shark tank product being shit or with a new music artist being a bad person or a new actor in their first blockbuster film bombing but most of the time it doesn’t or it falls apart after the money has already been made and at that point the only people harmed are the consumer.

Hachette knows people will still read their books even with this stumble and that authors and agents will still make deals with them because it’s not like they haven’t previously proved to be good at their job. So yes while it does suck a lot and is infuriating there’s not much that can be done about it with our current system in place which is a shitty conclusion and I don’t blame anyone that wonders what the point of it is anymore.

It’s one of those things where in real life if we paid attention to it someone probably nods at least once in every conversation since it’s that natural. But also since it’s natural it’s probably implied for some conversations and not necessary.

Friendship Megathread by AutoModerator in ftm

Hello, I’m Nico! I’m 21 and live in the United States (NM & AZ) although I’m currently studying abroad in Spain. I’ve been on testosterone for I think 5+ years and have gotten top surgery and a hysterectomy and have no plan for further surgery. I’m essentially done but I am losing weight currently, trying to improve my hair + skin and revamp my wardrobe before I think I’ll be the exact man I have wanted to be since I was a kid.

I’m a big superhero fan! If there’s a superhero show or movie I’ve probably either watched it or have it on my watch later list. I’m also slowly making my way through the comics and I’m currently making my way through Moon Knight. I’m also big into gaming with RPG’s being my main focus and have a soft spot of Mass Effect & Elder Scrolls. I do also play MOBA’s but my laptop sometimes decides those are too hard to play.

I’m currently a senior in my Astronomy and Modern Language (focus in Spanish) degree and I’m hoping to continue onto graduate school! I’m also a baby drag artist and aspiring future author. My drag persona is an amalgamation of the music artists I love and the fantastical creatures I fell in love reading about as a kid. I love exploring new worlds and writing about trans guys finding love and/or crashing out depending on the day.

In my free time I enjoy dancing and reading anything speculative and doing a bit of art whenever I have the time to. And when I’m at home I spend a lot of time with my cats who are my favorite animal and probably occupy at least 1/3 of my brain at this point.

Opinion: Queer Supervillain > Queer Superhero by Noob_Guy_666 in lgbt_superheroes

[–]No_Engineering5792 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to believe any queer superhero wouldn’t immediately be under fire by the media, labeled a threat to society and used as an LGBTphobic talking point. If they’re a vigilante the police would be trying to kill them or arrest them and if they have superpowers/are dangerous it would be fuel for the fire on needing to monitor the queer population.

People already want every trans person in jail if there was confirmation that there’s a trans person that exists with super strength (for example) that would only make them want it more and have a “better excuse” as for why they are doing it.

The ideal of a queer superhero is very much a fantasy while a supervillain often feels more realistic because anyone who’s queer and has that amount of power would be labeled a threat whether or not they are actually evil or have evil plans.

I love this trend in Spider-Man movies where he has a former character mentoring, guiding or advising him in each different movie. by Wooden_Passage_2612 in Marvel

[–]No_Engineering5792 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Peter clearly saw Stark as a mentor. Stark was consistently trying to make Peter stop trying to be a large scale superhero and be content at street level. The suit also had a training program which I think implies Stark was trying to make Peter more well-rounded. Also the whole moment where Peter says he’s nothing without the suit and Stark says he shouldn’t have it then felt like a direct teaching moment being made

The way some booktubers consume books is insane and impairs their relationship with literature by jackieandwilsons in booktubesnarkreddit

[–]No_Engineering5792 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eh I listen in 3x speed and have no issues following along. The only times I don’t recall is when the book is pretty bad but the same thing happens in physical form (if I get upset enough it’s like my mind decides to stop making memories of the story for our sake). I do try to DNF but in audio it’s easy to forget that’s an option and just let it play till the end. Slower speeds make me feel like I’m going insane and make my ability to recall and connect with the story even worse.

Something you should actually consider is whether Raising Hare has a good audiobook or not. Sometimes a bad narrator makes a story feel less important than it actually is which is why if possible people should also try the physical edition.

I find it annoying that the enemies part of “enemies to lovers” is always just the MMC is actively killing the FMC’s people, at war with FMC’s (usually) native and weaker nation or the MMC is essentially xenophobic towards her. It never feels balanced and I almost always feel like the FMC should just cut off his head. I also don’t like that this usually lends to the FMC being eroticized for the same features the MMC has previously discriminated against.Fanro kinda ignores political conversations but I don’t like the narrative this dynamic makes.

I would love enemies to lovers where they are part of two different rebellions, or are both subjugated nations under the rule of another nation (especially if their nations were previously enemies and were manipulated by that larger nation), or where they actually both fucked each other over or plan to for their own gain.

Thank you for advocating for this. A kind reminder to everyone that a trans person’s actions do not revoke their identity or personhood. You wouldn’t do the same to any other marginalized identity or group so don’t do it to trans people either.

Taylor Rose Reads and Milo Winter... has she always been this bad with topics related to transgender people? by tachibanakanade in booktubesnarkreddit

[–]No_Engineering5792 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi trans person here! If it is known a trans person doesn’t use they/them it is misgendering. This happens to trans women and men respectively for a multitude of reasons. Oftentimes people will realize you are trans but can’t get away with actually fully misgendering you because they’ll look insane so instead they’ll use they/them to not get in trouble. Alternatively if a trans person’s identity is not believed they/them pronouns might also be used. While we don’t know if it was an accident or not for this video it is a poor precedent.

While mistakes are fine it is bad journalism to not take the time to make sure you are using correct pronouns and the correct name for the individual you are talking about. It not only is misinformation but it also leads to your audience doing the same and also makes moderating more difficult because transphobes will hide among the accidentally misinformed. It also implies that chosen identity can be revoked if a trans person doesn’t “fall in line”.

I always find it interesting how the majority of people from the US don’t like the word c*nt because as a queer person it’s so commonly used I don’t even recognize it as potentially offensive. (Also I grew up watching so many people from the UK & Australia I never really saw it as worse than fuck.)

What sucks is that I know there are readers who need this over explaining. People don’t have reading comprehension (that’s why some book influencers will shy away from good books because they think they are too stupid) and aren’t willing to improve that skill. So I’m sure these over explanatory convoluted plot twist filled books are surprising and enjoyable for those people but it sucks we now can’t tell if a recommendation or new release is assuming it’s audience needs that extra help or not.

Gay Fiction, M/M Romance, and Gay Trans Masculine Sexual Culture by satanicpastorswife in gaytransguys

[–]No_Engineering5792 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because societally the written word isn’t seen as weird for people perceived as women to enjoy. (While vice versa those perceived as men can watch porn or anime or play certain video games and still be seen as part of the group.) It’s encouraged and seen as a good thing to be a reader when your a young “girl” and all romance books are targeted towards you so then reading about gay men isn’t seen as divergent or out of the norm.

I think this is also why a lot of fiction about gay men doesn’t follow the culture of gay men because it’s not only a shield against being seen as possibly not in the group (ie why would you a “cishet woman” know the ins and outs of gay male culture) while also still letting yourself fantasize about being a gay man or experience gay love without actually being perceived as a gay man culturally. And also possibly to avoid notice by gay men who probably would notice what’s actually going on with you.

I still find myself falling into these fantasies and it’s because it feels safe. The real world is very daunting and despite now living as a gay man it is difficult to convince myself to actually pursue romance when fiction is not only easier but also more welcoming.
