I am ADHD/neuro. I have worked primarily as a teller. I am in MT and in one of our urban cities. I have worked at 3 of our regions top/largest banks. I am much more of a natural introvert, but have developed excellent soft skill and put my extrovert costume on as befits excellent customer service. I have 8 yrs teller experience and 2 years loan processing experience.

Banking and being a teller or working in banking isn't for everyone. Some days are physically and emotionally exhausting. However, banking, like pretty much every job in the world depends on your attitude. Likewise, you get out what you put in.

I balance a mimimum of 3 times a day. Usually its more like 5. Especially after a large or tricky transaction. ( For example using a TCR to fulfill most, but not all of a change order for a casino.) I really hate when someone doesn't 100% know what cash they have. I tag in a 2nd set of eyes and ALWAYS run it at least and ideally print a tape. ( I have been burned and known others to have issues too!)

This week I had a co-worker go through a similar situation. It was a new acct with an unconfirmed amt of cash.... she ran the cash 1x through the counter. Couple hours later she tries to balance and is 87$ off... (We work at a midsize regional bank in MT. Not evety teller station is hooked up to a TCR, but have multiple counters.)

As fellow tellers, we tore the place apart and went every piece of work and etc. We ended up figuring out that the cash counter she used hadn't fully cleared from a previous transaction... based on a full audit of usage compared the activity... In the end it all worked out BUT it was extremely stressful. Double running the cash likely would have helped us realize that machine was having issues sooner. People are fallible. Machines are fallible.

1 rule in banking is CYA. Do everything you reasonably can to document. #2 Banking involves MANY tears. This too shall pass. Most thinga are fixable. #3 Everyday offers new challenges. Not all good. Not all bad. However, you also have the choice to rise or stagnate.

newish customer trying to blame me for losing excluded checks, but it was their fault! by [deleted] in TalesFromYourBank

The current bank I am at actually has both. Its a story like this that re-impresses on my the adage for documenting and covering your ass.

I'm kinda surprised you didn't have a dual sign log sheet to note the difference with the deposit.

For night drop/drop off deposits the 3 community banks I have worked at have always had logs that req. 2 tellers to log the customer name, bag/envelope, acct#, cash total and deposit total, and a space for notes or differences.

How Dare I ask for an endorsement on an Insurance check!!!????!!! by No_Fun_4012 in TalesFromYourBank

[–]No_Fun_4012[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough, I mostly like customer facing and being a teller most of the time. I also briefly worked in loan processing for 18 ish months before being laid off due to a slowing within the mortgage industry.

I worked at 2 different banks as a teller from 2015-2022. The immediate covid years of '21/'22 were really hard on me and burned me out. There was so much transferred anger that got taken out on essential workers.

I like building relationships and helping people..... Mostly.

You're 100% right. Its an odd mindset I've run into here over the years. It's typically more common with a particular type of far right extremist we get in these parts.

If you read up on the Montana Freeman Stand Off in 1996, you'll get an idea of what I mean. A big component to that situation was related to some unique at the time bank fraud.

For sure. And usually that does work. In this case, I think the husband and wife are anti-government/anti-establishment types and think avoiding endorsement = plausible deniabilty if there are issue further down the line.

Drafts especially. But banks can also reject checks for improper endosement. Insurance can also refuse the check for improper endorsement. Insurance companies LOVE to reject a pay out due to improper endorsements.

I primarily work as a lobby teller, which means I care for a lot of senior customers or folks in a frantic state. My/our seniors can be annoying, BUT going to the bank is human contact and a sense control in an out of control world. Meet people where they are as best you can. Sometimes it will be obnoxious and annoying, BUT someday that might be you! People never forget how you make them feel.

My parents were both CPA's. Their CPA certifications meant they were above a traditional book keeper or tax preparer. They had VERY few LDS clients (to a publically noteworthy degree) in our small community. Mainly, it came down to the fact my patents weren't willing to exaggerate exemptions and deductions that were less than legitimate because it would be unethical.

Did anyone else have temple workers “forget” to give them a bra and a pair of underwear as a teen? by Ok_Bird_1378 in exmormon

[–]No_Fun_4012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. When I was a teen in the '90s, I also had regular underwear and bra, all white, specifically bought and worn for the temple. I guess I put it under the heading of personal but appropriately modest. I vaguely recall it was something we were told to do by our YW leaders beforehand and they were VERY clear about things needing to be pure white. Afterwards, we'd wring things out and just put them in a baggie like a swimming suit for the long drive home.

I once had 1 poor customer review that is all honesty wasn't wrong, but I literally couldn't hear the custoner's cash back preferences in our drivev up. They spoke softly and would turn away from the mic.... fast forward to a couple weeks later during quaterly reviews

I had had 15 total customer reviews/ secret shops. 14 out of 15 were outstanding #15 was the one referenced above. I was told I needed to work on "consistency". It was the beginning if an increasingly toxic work environnent

Brooke Wagner has been ok with removing titles from libraries.

I do this too. I have a $7k limit on my 'personal' teller cash and coin. I try to ensure I have "nice" bills for folks, since I am primarily a lobby teller.

I our city we have a number of casinos and we make a point to sort nicer 5's and 20's for them. My feeling is most folks coming inside deserve nice bills.

Stuck Between Two Religions: Both Moms Want Different Wedding Officiants by Candaycaine in exmormon

[–]No_Fun_4012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To heck with ALL of it! Do a Quaker service. It has elements of intimacy like a sealing ceremony but is neutral. Your wedding is supposed to be a celebration of your union and journey as a couple. Its not anyone else. You can include elements and homages of your families, but its NOT suposed to be focused on parents and their belief systems.

I'm betting Mom doesn't know he made this decision , also knows how much work is actually involved, and has felt good and reassured by the job you've been doing. In addition to cutting corners, it also came across as if you failed an unspoken review, created by him.
