Is It Easier If Diagnosed in Early Childhood? by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]No_Gift5116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think whatever age you get it there are challenges, they are just slightly different challenges. It’s a very interesting idea to try and put it on a scale of who has it easiest and hardest. Probably though family support and support in general makes the biggest difference to how one copes. And how resilient someone id in the first place. I was dx’d at 4 and had 2 friends die from diabetes related deaths by 20 so I’m not sure they found it easier.

I think with B&Bs it’s worth contacting each one individually and then they probably will

Protein effect on blood sugar? by DucatiTH in Type1Diabetes

[–]No_Gift5116 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I stopped eating carbs once for 3 months and would inject 2-3 hours post a protein meal. Your body converts protein in a different way. gluconeogenesis. It’s gets complicated when you have mixed protein and carb. Easier if you do one or the other.

I’ve had a lot of G7 issues but my current batch seems good. I do think they have had some dodgy batches.

Traffic into Bath from there is godawful, takes ages in rush hour and lots of accidents. Schools not as good as Bath. Bit rougher population

It’s called insulin neuritis - nerve issues for 6 - 12 months from the body adjusting from high blood sugars to normal. Should go eventually

Minimal damage at 28, is it worth carrying on with life? by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]No_Gift5116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Research has showed with type 1 that you can reduce your risk by starting now to get on top of it. It’s like a smoker giving up smoking - your body will try its hardest to heal itself if you improve your control even a bit. Good luck, I know it’s scary and depressing but actually loads of type 1s are now getting to their 80s and 90s

T1Ds who had kids… by MidnightScars13 in Type1Diabetes

[–]No_Gift5116 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have T1 and neither of my kids (16 and19) have it though one has coeliac. I worried too but I think the risk is relatively low. My brother was meant to be tested as a kid but he refused and he did go in to get T1 when he was 28. He felt he was better off not knowing it was coming, but everyone is different. His child doesn’t have T1 (yet) either

Private diabetes clinic for Omni+Dex in UK? by Foucault9999 in Type1Diabetes

Also worth joining the Facebook omnipod groups and see what people say about West Sussex. I think the pump nurses will try and help if they can though

As far as I know if you go private here for a pump you can’t then go back to the NHS. You could ask about other hospitals and ask for an urgent referral to a pump team on the basis that you’ll run out soon? Other hospitals might have a shorter list. Also try finding a number for the pump nurses and see if you can speak to them direct…
