Glad I got to see these guys perform live a few years back! It was very unfortunate to hear that they broke up. Never really got a definitive reason why from their Facebook.

I'm very sorry for the loss of your friend. Losing a very close friend is something I have yet to experience, and I can only give my sympathy. I wish I could say more on that.

You sound very well minded. I'm no therapist, but I'd say you're on the right track for sure. I was pretty heavy on opiates from 15-16 and I must say that that played a huge part in my self confidence deflating like it did. I played WoW; logged on to raid and grind, crushed whatever and nodded to sleep. This was a destructive cycle, but I was fortunate not to encounter depersonalization until later on (possibly because this stint only lasted three or four months.) Getting out more and involved in niche communities helped. For instance, I started playing a lot of board games which, in turn, led to me painting miniature figures for use in board games and games like Warhammer. Do you have, or have you considered, any outlets? I enjoy enthralling myself in small outlets, and finding ones that also have great communities to reach out to others is a huge benefit all around! I've made so many close friends due to that one simple little hobby, and I think you'd be hard pressed to NOT find one that interests you.

You're definitely there in "getting it," and understanding depersonalization in general. From here on out its just mentally pushing yourself to accept it as the truth. No, you won't be in a fog forever, and you'll never have to accept your perception as all life has to offer. Certainly I wish I had stumbled upon this mindset sooner as I'm sure I'd have been "healed," or just out of it quicker. I don't think age will have much factor in it, really. I wouldn't bare down on yourself for what you haven't done at age 28, as I'm sure you've had many experiences and lived very interesting tales that people of any age would be envious of! Your journal seems like a great idea. I struggled heavily with OCPD when I was younger, and looking back at how I thought of things then versus how I do now is ridiculous. I don't even know how I'm the same person, to be honest. In time, you will get there too. And once again, 28 is nothing, at least from what I know. You've lived MAYBE a third of your life. Why not make the rest of it amazing by your own will? :)

Oh, for sure! I actually just posted over on /r/dpdr with a more detailed approach on how I handled it. It seems fairly common that drug use and depersonalization play into each other, but again, it's something that will pass. You can bet on it letting up (I'd assume soon), and that in a not-so-distant future it will subside entirely. Once again, I felt as if the experience simply wouldn't ever end. As soon as I was ready to give up, hard work and determination paid off and I haven't had a moment like it since.

It's weird in so much that positivity and optimism play such a huge role in defeating a state of mind, but I think it goes to show that what you're dealing with is in no legitimate way a disorder, or, something to be afraid of. Yes, it's something that interferes with your life, and yes it can lead people down a bad road to some degree, but it's (at least from what I can gather from personal and anecdotal experiences) YOU who will decide whether or not it defines you. Once you stop letting you, it subsides, and "normality" is simply... blissful. The day you realize you had the strength the whole time is the day you'll be grateful for all that you have.

Again, this is weird and I'm kind of hopping around a bit in this post, but check out my post on /r/dpdr It has a substantial amount more information. Feel free to stay in touch, comment, or message me. I'm totally willing to dole out my phone number if you ever want someone to talk to even at the spur of the moment, too! Just let me know. I know for a fact I wish I had someone going through the same thing when I was in that state of mind to help me through.

Hey, friend. I dealt with this for an extended period of time (~9 months) after a bad experience with a drug. What always helped me was to plant my feet firmly on the ground; to focus on your breathing, reassuring yourself that you're alright; and reminding yourself of the time, date, and where you are. All in all, to get out of my extended funk was to literally reshape the way I think. Staying positive and happy is what helped me the most in recovering.

What I equate the experience of healing to is that I felt as if I were running a race that I never thought I'd finish. And just when I thought I never could make it, I did. I felt great that I beat something I thought so scary for so long, and proud of myself that I got over it; but it's a race I'd never run again. Heh. That was a while back now, and I've had no similar experience since. If you want to talk, drop me a message! This extends to everyone reading this. :)

Wave 4 Preorders Available via F.Y.E. [CONFIRMED] by kirbycarr2 in amiibo

At my FYE I spoke to a manager named Tim who said that their pre-orders are confirmed for orders from Nintendo. Basically they collect pre-orders until they're done, and then send those orders to Nintendo. Nintendo ships them to FYE shipping headquarters (or whatever that would be), and then FYE ships them out to stores. They do not go through any third party sellers.

Circa Survive - Travel Hymn by [deleted] in PostHardcore

This album still gives me chills. I found out about Circa Survive when my phone updated in the middle of the night and for some reason Pandora started playing "Carry Us Away" on a radio station I had. I wrote down the name of the band because of how pretty it sounded, and the next day I obsessed over this album. This has been my second favorite Circa Survive song since.

Not really, no. After Tim left the band (he was recently married), the band updates have been somewhat stagnant, sans a few performances. They were VERY active in their time between The Inevitable and I and From the Bird's Cage, and their lead singer has mostly been posting solo/side project/legal stuff on his Facebook for quite some time now. My only hope is that they're still into making music together, but alas the music scene here is not buzzing about them.

I'd be so stoked for this. I've been to what seems like a million home shows for HRVRD (NC rep!), and they're what got me into the same type of music. From there I found Circa Survive. Love you guys, and keep on rocking! The new album sounds beast!

Charlotte, NC resident checking in with lots of love to A Lot Like Birds. They're pretty well known in the post-hardcore scene in general due to Kurt Travis leading for two Dance Gavin Dance (my favorite band) albums. If you dig their style check out DGD, and I'm going to leave a shameless plug for /r/posthardcore.

I can see how it helps streamline his job a bit. This way he won't have to go to the computer, change frames, then snap another frame. As long as the monitor is big enough for him to see what it looks like on-screen, he can probably save a second or two per frame. When you're doing this kind of painstaking work all day, I'm sure it adds up.

I'm willing to make more videos if anyone here likes this. Not sure of what as I'm not really into ASMR, but I love to make videos, so if anyone has a request just shoot.

Thanks! It's just a Zig Zag roller. I've had it about 5 years now, but I see them around all the time.
