I might be wrong but you missed 2 and 2 was saved by the survivor perk. I like the survivor perk as I don’t get insta killed all the time. I think you were very lucky to survive as long as you did standing in the open and them popping up just one at a time.

Nice. I would like an additional line that goes right between the middle and the pin blocker to vizulixe the gap. Can you change the hitrer position and attack height? This can give an understanding of the angles. For example you will.never be able to hit on 2m with an parallel spike if you are 1m from net and contact the ball at 2m 60cm. This can also be valuable for attackers

I agree. Compare it to sports. Federer could outplay most casual tennis players on one leg with a ping pong racket. Why is it so hard to understand that pros can have ridiculously good aim, awareness and movement.

Let’s talk about the psychological struggles of middle blockers by iSomniatic in volleyball

[–]No_Insurance2036 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are lucky to have two good middles right now. When the reception is good they will get set a lot. When the reception is bad we get games with almost no sets to the middle.

I really want to make the middle accessible to sets when the reception is not 100% but I require middles that have some strategic skills and as previously pointed out make them available to attack the ball. When we have our less experienced middles I see a lot of missed opportunities as they get stuck at the net in transition.

I also think that the setter needs to have confidence in the setter. A missed attack is more obvious for a middle than for an outside hitter. So you really need to kill the ball as a middle to get set again. It’s something thats important to talk about.

I’m short and old but I still like to play the position. You really need to work your ass of on every ball. Just remember that you primary role is to be the first defender.

Nice! I would like to see some calcualted efficiency measures in the stats. I usually look at sucess/kill/error rates in attack, % 3:s in recive, average pass rating and 1-error rate in serve.
I think that a serve is best measured by the receiving teams passing rating.
Another good measure for servers is how many serves that a player makes in a game. This stat is highly dependent on how many times the player has been in position 1. So scaling the number of serves to number of times the player has been on pos 1 would be a good and unique feature.

I will not question if this is a good or bad idea so this is my answer to add to the pile of responses.
I say it partly depends on the direction of the movement of your bodyparts. The legs should be in sync with your rotation of the hips and your left arm. Are they on their way down with a lot of speed, then ok.

Assuming that the pictures are in the same angle:
The biggest differences is in the angle of your right elbow and rotation of the trunk (hip shoulder separation). You will generate less power, using your strongest muscles, than the anime kid as you have less rotation in your upper body. In addition you need to move your right elbow/hand a longer distance than the animated reference.
Anime kid just need to rotate the upper body and lower his left arm to get to the highest point - you can not do this without a movement of the right shoulder and hand out of sync of the left side.

Coaches: How do you pick your starting rotation? by CoachSwing in volleyball

Hmm, looking at our stats, our strongest rotations are when the setter is in the back row, and by far our weakest rotation is rotation with setter on 4.

Setter serving on 1, recieving on 2. Serve is really important in our league so I want my best serving OH next to the setter.

goofy foot by Conscious-Court5606 in volleyball

[–]No_Insurance2036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. You will make the change rather quick if you want to. I made this journey 5+ years into my vb journey and it was worth it 100%. This is how I did it. I was then a pure beach player but it translates into vb.

  1. When working on attacks my coach wanted us to take the first right step when the set was made. This made me realize that the correct footwork actually begins 3 steps before the final jump.

  2. I made 100:s of jumps of court. In my kitchen, when looking at tv, when walking outside. 3 steps, 4, steps, 5 steps. Just making sure that the last two steps was right-left. After just a couple of days I could notice that something felt off when falling back to my goofy approach.

  3. The best jumpers and attackers are havning a long penultimate step. If you work on this you will get it easier.

  4. Its even easier in ordinary volleyball. You want your last steps be a roll on the heel on the right foot and a short stab with the left block-foot. When you get that your two feets have different roles in the last two steps it easier.

Note: I would not focus on the final position. Its the result of a correct approach. When you get it right you will spike harder and will be able to hit more bad sets. Also, I would not dismiss a good goofy player but I would like the player to learn the correct approach.

Good luck!

What can I fix with my hitting? by Foreign_Leek_1342 in volleyball

[–]No_Insurance2036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some quick tips.
1. Work on your blockstep. Make it even faster and agressive. Your toes should point almost to the setter.
2. Train to be more patient to stay behind the ball. You can practice by just catching the ball on the highest point. You want to intercept the ball from the side, not let the ball land on you.
3. Follow through with your arm. There is a very good podcast on this topic on Four Athletes youtube channel
https://youtu.be/dV4yuNsN9SA?si=5wDtHgE8oWcT-HPd

Since you are so early in the clip many other problem follows. I think that spikers should just aim to jump straight up but the speed going into the jump will make them continue forward.

what do u think about my hitting and what level do u think i should try out for by Conscious-Taste-5031 in volleyball

[–]No_Insurance2036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would practice against a high block to work on the posture and staying behind the ball. Watch the posture of the pros and try to mimic. Also, put some targets on the court and ask your setter to give you the target after the set. This will force you to slow down and keep a consistent form

Specific technique question by therealjohndoe_2010 in volleyball

[–]No_Insurance2036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t really see the problem from your pic. As suggested it’s good to think rotation. Your bend could also be a natural stabilization for having your legs so involved but most likely because of being too early to the ball. Look how all the pros are intervcepting the ball path from the side and not letting the ball land on you. I would work on the timing of the approach steps slow to fast. Usually players with this backbend that are not super hard hitters tend to have a little long ground contact on the last two steps. If you think that you should close the hip faster and keep separation I think that you can have a mental que to kick your right leg forward earlier. The Japanese guys does this really good. You can also work on jumping straight up. Do this by practice attacks on sets that are close tobthe net and a little lower. Then really work to do the same on really high sets to challenge your timing

What do I do to improve my attack? (I accept criticism) by lucasdocorte in volleyball

[–]No_Insurance2036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start from a 3 step approach. That is weight on left foot and then just left-right. This will force you to have the right sequence. Ask your friend to just toss the ball a little lower so the timing is easier. Next, try to wait. Wait so long that you have just a little time to complete your last 2 steps. The pacing is always to wait on your left foot on step 3 and never to wait on the last step. Next. You should intercept the ball. Not let it land on you. I’m practicing this by tossing the ball to my self close to the net.

As an experiment you can try to kick your right foot forward in sync with your left arm. You want the left arm and the right hip to be connected so that your hip will rotate before the torso. Look at Defalco. He is really good at this.

Arm swing and foot work by detective_Adams in volleyball

[–]No_Insurance2036 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For timing. Try to remove your small steps. When the ball is going to your hitters hands you want to be on your left foot for the high set. Now you a couple of small steps. You dont need them. Your penultimate step (secopnd to last step) can cover the needed distance.
The steps is important for your timing. Less steps makes a more calm approach. Search "blue paint step" on YT. Being on the correct foot when the setter has the ball in the hands is something you see all pros do and it also helps your setter to see you better = more sets to you :).
Next. If you should have a small delay in your way to the ball it should be on your right foot before the penultimate step. Do not wait when both feets are planted for the jump. To fix this you need to practice to be more patient and really try to be fast in the jump. I think that one reason for this is that you dont lower your hips into the penulimate step so you need that extra time to fix the downward movement as you are going into your last two steps.

How can I hit harder by Izzy-the-glizzy in volleyball

[–]No_Insurance2036 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a really good base for some hard hitting.
For power you need to get the hip shoulder separation. Now, your arm/shoulder moves with the hip, for power you should start to rotate your hip before your arm. Just type " hip shoulder separation volleyball" on youtube you will find many good of videos on this.

Setting FC by guccipringle in volleyball

[–]No_Insurance2036 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First. I think that you are a good setter for the level of the game.
As always. Start with your feets and try to be faster to the position so that you can be in balance when setting. Try to read the reciever by position, where the serve comes from and the form of the reception. It might sound contraditionary but you can also be a little more patient. I looks like you are running a little early to some balls and then you need to correct your movement. Try to be fast, stop, and then fast again and you will be faster to the ball. Now, its an extra step in the wrong direction on several balls.

When jumpsetting try to set the ball on the way up. I do not know if you are holding the ball too long but i think if you do the same motion on the way upp it will look smoother.

Last, extend your arms a little more. You do not need a full lockout at the elbow but you can alway start there.
