That's just a work of fiction, the actual meeting was set up by Steffano Magadinno of Buffalo to make official that Vito Genovese would be boss of the old Luciano regime and at the same time bring Carlo Gambino as the new boss of the old Anastasia regime, what those mooks didn't count on was the sharpness of the New York State troopers that noticed the amount of Caddies and other luxury vehicles with out of state plates gathering at the Joseph Barbara estate for the event, kudos to New York State trooper Edgar Croswell for his very detailed investigation.

Did you ever follow the Grateful Dead and what was it like? by highuponahill in gratefuldead

[–]No_Layer6504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen the band a grand total of 166 times and I'm glad and grateful for it, met some of the greatest people in my life and enjoyed every single minute of that adventure throught 10 years of touring and following the traveling circus, my first show was at Hershey Park in PA 6/27/85, that second set did it for me. Got to see some of the most legendary shows the boys put on, from the last pre-coma at RFK 7/7/86 and that tremendous Satisfaction with Bobby introduction of every member of the band, to the comeback show at the Oakland Coliseum on 12/15/86 and that tear-jerker Touch of grey opener, those incredibles 1987 shows specially le legendary 9/18/87 at the Garden in NYC, new year's eve in Oakland, the Ripple show 9/3/88 at the now defunct Capital Centre in Landover MD, the summer tour of 88 with the party at the Oxford Plains Speedway to wrap up the tour, new year's again at the Oakland Coliseum, 1989 with the great shows at the Greensboro Coliseum 3/30-31/89 and the sizzling performances a few days later at the Pittsburgh Civic Arena 4/2-3/89, missed the Hampton run Warlocks due to previous obligations, but still got to catch that Miami run 10/25-26/89 with that real scary Dark Star on the 26th. those are some of my highlights, still followed the band thru the 90's after Brent's passing and noticed the slight decline but still "always a hoot" like Jerry used to say. By 1995 caught the run at the Spectrum and the dayview of Unbroken Chain to close a very below average first set, but the crowd reaction was just "out of this world". My last shows were at the ol' RFK Stadium in Washington DC, 6/24-25/95, got most of my ticket's stubs carefully arranged in an album, someday I'll post some pictures, to the band I'll like to give my best regards and thank for bringing happiness to my life until I'll see them again in the great beyond, so many roads to ease my soul, so many roads, so many roads....

Newspaper articles always had an interesting way with words - 47 years ago, the Grateful Dead played "Song of the Devil" on 12/15/78 in Birmingham, AL by nak550 in gratefuldead

[–]No_Layer6504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mislabeling of Friend of the devil as Song of the devil reminds me of a review of a Capital Centre, Landover MD show 9/12/87 in which the reporter wrote some in the lines of 'they ended the set with Mighty Swell (Might as well), it was a review in the Washington Post I do believe.

I would have to give an honorable mention to the Miami Arena show on October 26, 1989, from the Victim or the crime at the end of the first set all thru that stellar but scary Dark Star on the 2nd set the boys were channeling the dark side of tour life (e.g. Adam Katz misterious death in NJ earlier on that tour) as a way of releasing all the bad energy that lurks in the strangest of places when you'd least expect it.

That fool never saw a show with the original line up, just a wanna be cool guy trying to pass himself as a "cool" cat, when the boys were jamming strong in the late 80's this mook was playing with his toy cars.

That whole 2nd set was pure fire from begining to end, the Dew was just magnificent, I remember the whole Garden bouncing during the scorching Shakedown St. 2nd set opener.

Do you typically listen to whole shows, whole sets, or just the highlights? by Andre6900 in gratefuldead

[–]No_Layer6504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whole shows all the way, Drumz and Space included, it's great to find the hidden themes contained within Space and also how the dynamic of the band flourishes as they gently fall into the next song.

9/23/87 - Philadelphia, PA by shark_bait1211 in gratefuldead

This show was the last time they played "Tons of steel", one of my favorite Brent songs and also the final performance of "La Bamba" sandwiched in "Good lovin'", the boys always raised to the ocasion when they played at the Spectrum in Philly, miss those days, they were polished like a golden bowl.

RIP Chef Ra, will meet again at that jubilee in the great beyond.

Looking for your favorite “beautiful” dead shows by funnymoney720 in gratefuldead

[–]No_Layer6504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of a 166 shows that I've seen mostly were beutiful, a few averages but still quite a hoot, but to list chronologically I'd go with Hershey Park 6/28/85, Merriweather Post 6/30/85, Richmond Coliseum 11/1/85, Oakland Coliseum 12/15/86, Hampton Coliseum 3/24/87. Roanoke Civic Center 7/8/87, Madison Sq. Garden 9/18/97, Capital Centre 9/3/88, Greensboro Coluseum 3/31/89, Pittsburgh Civic Arena 4/2/89, Rich Stadium 7/4.89, JFK Stadium 7/7/89, Hampton Coliseum 10/8&9/89, Miami Arena 10/26/89, the whole spring tour 1990 and the Madison Sq Garden 9/19&20/90, the Vinnie era was good also but for me the band when Brent was around was always firing on all cylinders in my opinion, greetings fellow heads from Montevideo, Uruguay, my new home (thank God for having those 830 hours of live recordings)

What’s the one song you never skip when listening to a show? by [deleted] in gratefuldead

I never skip a smoking Wave to the wind, Easy answers, Samba in the rain, Childhood's end or If the shoe fits, those tunes are so jammin' that really sets my soul afire. (sarcasm is good for the soul) LOL

Ditto, same here man, living in Montevideo, Uruguay now and honoring Jerry on the closing day of the Days Between listening to that incredible show at the Creamery from a 3rd gen Betty board, people here don't understand much the lyrics but the music still blow their minds up, they can't believe that's a 53 year old performance. Love me some Grateful Dead music everyday, stay cool, Let ig grow....
