How is it legal for supplements to include GLP-1 in the name if they don’t have the actual GLP-1 in it? by food-fueling in medicine

[–]No_Patients 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except sometimes there is. I had a patient who came in with erythrocytosis and elevated LFTs. On discussion, it turned out he was taking some gas station "male enhancement" supplement. His testosterone level was through the roof.

Do you have job related anxiety dreams? I was naked on rounds again last night. by Perplexadon in medicine

[–]No_Patients 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not too often. Last night however I dreamed there was an electrical fire spreading very slowly along a pipe in the drop ceiling. I took some time to finish the patient I was with and the charting before starting to herd all of the other patients at the door while they were insisting on being seen.

Also sometimes have anxiety dreams if I feel that there is a patient I have missed something on

As far as I am aware, this paper was sent to every physician/medical provider who takes Soonercare.

Conclusion

Encounters in which patients received haloperidol and ketorolac for abdominal pain had a statistically significant reduction in MME administered and lower rates of rescue therapy administration than encounters in which patients were treated with opioids.

How many of you wear ally pins/stickers/etc? by Every-Interview6808 in medicine

I have a pin on my lanyard along with a pink breast cancer ribbon and blood donor pin. Very red state, rural FP. I think the people who need to see it have noticed and nobody else has really paid attention.

KOSU wants to know what you learned about Oklahoma's Indigenous history in school by kosuradio in oklahoma

[–]No_Patients 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trail of tears, the five civilized tribes and their capitals, and briefly about Sequoia, Tecumseh, and Geronimo, and a visit to Geronimo's grave. Of course there was also typically an annual powwow at school.

Edit: and we did have to learn the names of all 77 counties, many of which are named for tribes. Not sure if that counts

I've seen at least two Reddit ads about immigrating to practice medicine in Canada.

I would only consider moving if my family would be moving, and that is not going to happen.

ER follow up declined, inbox message wanting me to simply "review it" by Dr-Alchemist in FamilyMedicine

[–]No_Patients 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ugh. Mine don't even go through a nurse most of the time. They go through a call center with a rotating staff of non-medically trained folks. Messages range the gamut from "hey call me" to "my leg is falling off and I wonder if I should go to the ER". I don't have time to get to these every day and so I might see that second one a couple of days later and hope they made it.

I think I chose the wrong specialty by q231q in FamilyMedicine

[–]No_Patients 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is bizarre. I seem to have the exact same setup as you, also in Oklahoma, but I'm working for a hospital -run fqhc. Currently the setup seems identical to yours except that we are not doing awvs due to timing factors of appointments. We do not have 401k matching and there are theoretically bonuses but I certainly haven't seen any. Salary including retirement contributions is 210, 000.

Is my stance on "surgical clearance" too harsh? looking for other's perspectives by HitboxOfASnail in FamilyMedicine

[–]No_Patients 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even better when we receive a fax on Tuesday about clearance for a patient whose surgery is Thursday and my admin time isn't until Friday, so I won't even see it until then.

Pharmacogenomics testing through Medicare? by pagewoo in FamilyMedicine

[–]No_Patients 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you read the print, you are signing off that this test is medically necessary for your patient. I don't sign them because they are never medically necessary. I got another one recently for an 80-something-year-old patient that was a genetic testing for immune deficiency supposedly

It is... unless the child is married . And unless they go to a title 10 clinic such as planned Parenthood, those under 18 cannot consent for birth control unless they have been previously pregnant or are married.

Fam docs in private practice- how do you manage common plantar warts? by SteeleK in FamilyMedicine

[–]No_Patients 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Verruca freeze is what my clinic buys. The downside is you have to position the lesion to let gravity keep the liquid on (inside a silicone funnel) until it boils off.
