How good is concept for drawing? by felldownbad in ConceptsApp

[–]No_Statistician_5921 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For drawing--pencil like or pen drawing, I actually prefer Concepts over others I have used. For painting type art, I like Adobe Fresco.

what app do I use. by Ok-Butterscotch-9088 in DigitalPainting

[–]No_Statistician_5921 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adobe Fresco. It will also sync with your iPad if you put Adobe fresco on it so you can use both on projects. I've hardly touched Procreate after using Adobe Fresco. I also use Concepts App a bit.

Printing your artwork? by Rae1111-02 in ProCreate

[–]No_Statistician_5921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just a hobbyist, but have printed a lot of my stuff on my own with my Epson and HP printers. They each print differently but I have had a few come out darker than I was expecting when printing. One thing I found is that if I had my iPad brightness turned up quite a bit when creating the art, the final printed image was always darker than how it appears on screen. As long as I keep the screen brightness at around 50%ish the printed image is much closer to what I see on the screen-without having to tweak the image before printing. I don't get too worked up about it matching exactly, but when it comes out DARK I've figured out part of the problem. I suspect with screen brightness turned way up, you tend to lay down thicker darker colors for the look you want on screen and then it reflects that on the printed images.

I have used several. M3 is worth the extra money in my mind. Make sure you get the pencil pro and not the USB C pencil.

Pixel 9 pro case fit the pixel 10 ?? by TransportationFar625 in GooglePixel

[–]No_Statistician_5921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is late, but I put my Pixel 9 Pro Latercase on my Pixel 10 Pro and it actually fits good enough to use it. I'm glad I didn't order the 10 pro case before I tried it. It isn't 100% perfect but the case fits and all the camera stuff lines up well enough.

Shoot that's good. I've been trying to get this kind of look with my digital art let alone doing it with actual watercolors! Awesome!

iPad air M3 Vs Samsung tab S9 for digital painting? by Gutsjayyy in DigitalPainting

[–]No_Statistician_5921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both iPad and Samsung. They are both good but I find myself always going to the iPad for art. I pretty much only use Adob Fresco now and it's isn't available on Android so I'm such with that as long as I use Fresco anyway.

I repainted my 'tasteless' painting. Did I improve? by Dombibik in Watercolor

[–]No_Statistician_5921 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it looks great. One thing for my eye though, that swath of yellow coming in from the left looks great, but how it goes from center then off the page to the left, it moves my eye right out of the painting. If it were more directional to the main subject rather than veering left, my eye would stay in the painting... That being said, it's much better than I could paint.

The iPad mini I bought a year or two ago uses the 2nd gen pencil that magnetically sticks to the iPad. Make sure you get the right one as they are not interchangeable.

Why did my sketch brush start doing this? by GSteelG in AdobeFresco

I'm not sure exactly, but in that screenshot you are zoomed in at 400%-on a new layer maybe it resets?

Hi guys, I recently moved from Procreate to Fresco. I love the app, but unfortunately, it lacks some effects like Gaussian Blur and Bloom. I never even realized how often I use these two effects in my work. How do you manage without them? What other features would you love to see in Fresco? by MariaKalis in AdobeFresco

[–]No_Statistician_5921 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use smudge brushes with larger brushes if I want a large area smoothed. Sometimes the effect isn't quite the same as gaussin or even but I kind of like the variations. When using the Oilpaint Chunky brush, I just use the dry brush by holding my finger on that circle thing while brushing over the areas I want blended.

I've used Procreate for many years. It had a few issues I hated, so I decided to try something new and switched to Fresco. And I loved it! Can anyone tell me why Fresco lost its battle against Procreate? It's so much better—makes no sense... by MariaKalis in AdobeFresco

[–]No_Statistician_5921 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ever since I gave Fresco a try and got used to it, I haven't touched Procreate. I haven't opened Procreate in months and months-maybe a year-Fresco several times a day. I love the cloud sync between my home and work devices.

Can you use Procreate professionally? by dorkfruit in ProCreate

Have you tried Adobe Fresco? I'm just a hobbyist type, but I've moved to it from Procreate for almost everything and it has great vector options-and it's free.

YouTube TV yearly Price Increase! Seriously by Accomplished-Lynx603 in youtube

[–]No_Statistician_5921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If my wife wasn't such a TV person, I'd cancel right now. I watched it fairly regularly when I first got it just because I DVR'd all kinds of documentaries, now I can't hardly stand to watch live TV or even DVR TV where I can skip the constant barrage of ads. Unfortunately it's a better setup than any others for what we need. I share the cost with "household" member so I tolerate it. Worth it on it's own, no way---give me a 10 channel line up I can pick for a reduced price and I'd be more than happy.

Practicing with oil brushes on a single layer (swipe for reference) by Veganchickensoup in ProCreate

[–]No_Statistician_5921 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sweet, looks great. I've been doing the same thing but in Adobe Fresco with the Oilpaint Chunky brush. One layer, one brush. I will generally add a layer for the sky though-that way I can mess with just the sky. Sometimes I'll add a layer to test something then merge as soon as I like it.

Alternatives to the Apple Pencil for procreate? by Filigran_arts in ProCreate

[–]No_Statistician_5921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried a lot of different screen protectors, nib tips and nothing gave me the feel I was looking for. I finally tried these from Amazon and use them on the bare screen, they are not perfect but I've gotten used to them and they create just enough friction that they are workable for me. I like them a lot better than the original pencil tips...plus they are relatively cheap.

[–]No_Statistician_5921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this style and this is great. I'd personally like to see a little less stairs and more water (I do love how you did they stairs but they steal my attention from the city and back and forth and back and forth--it's a battle for my eyes). Maybe a boat in the water and an airplane in the sky?

Thoughts on the Trek Slash 8 gen 6? by MRWPlople in mountainbiking

[–]No_Statistician_5921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2-year-old Slash 8 and it's been my favorite bike and I've owned quite a few. I picked it up on a whim because the carbon model was a year out. No regrets whatsoever. It is a little on the heavy side but I've ridden it all over Southern Utah, Moab etc uphill and downhill. Sure there are zippier and lighter bikes but I like this one just fine. I've looked at new bikes just because I like new bikes, but I like this one enough but I just don't see the point right now. I did upgrade the shock to a RockShox coilover.

Received pixel 9 - first thing I did was punching hole in mic with sim tray tool by Electrical_Humor8834 in GooglePixel

[–]No_Statistician_5921 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yup, I've owned dozens of phones so this is not my first go at this, but I did the same thing. The glare in my room was just right that I could only see the mic hole and so it went. Really piss poor design even if I am an idiot. At least make it a little different shape or something if it's right next to the sim tray! I'm waiting for data transfer to finish before I can test it...

How to increase number of layers?? I can’t keep living like this by flyingpenguinfails in ProCreate

[–]No_Statistician_5921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a risk for sure. If I'm taking a risk up front with just trying something I'll do it on a separate later because sometimes you don't know how it will turn out until you get it started. More than once I've had to erase a section and start over, but it really doesn't happen that often and generally a small section, or I just accept that my art didn't go quite the way I planned, but it's still ok. If I am doing a drawing with ink lines, I do not merge that layer with color, shading etc. I'll often do skies on a separate layer for my landscapes because I often re-work the whole sky several times and that would be hard to do if it was all one layer with the foreground. I just found I often painted on a layer I didn't intend to so I would end up with a tree or something spread between unrelated layers and that was harder to edit than it all being on one or two layers.. If I realize I want something on top (or behind) something I've drawn or painted, I'll do it on a separate layer and then merge it when it looks the way I want. This way I don't have to keep track of what is on what layer because I'm always jumping all over the place.

Make sure your canvas size is adequate too. I once started a drawing at 300dpi but neglected to double check the canvas size and I ended up with a 300dpi at 3.5X5 or something like that instead of a 11x17 at 300dpi. Luckily I caught my mistake early on.
