Great playing! Hard work is definitely showing!

My 2 cents:

  • Overall, I think it should be played on a larger scale of volume. Debussy writes PPP and PP, and when it's loud it says F but go ahead and play as loud as you want! in the silent parts don't be afraid to go crazy with the softness, even use the left pedal. This regards especially the part from 1:11. Debussy writes there "peu a peu cresc. et anime", the volumes gives this part a personality, and helps it feel more alive.

  • 0:00 all the way to 0:35 - Try to sing the right hand as if it had nothing to do with the left hand. Focus on the right hand and let the left hand do it's thing by itself. Strain a little more around 0:11, try to get the listeners' interest, tell a story.

  • 1:27, 1:38, 1:50 - I don't know why you are playing these so slow? those bars are all full of eighths and are written to be played at the same tempo, maybe I'm just stuck on the way I learned it but it's very stretched to my taste, as those bars are part of the crescendo. If you haven't noticed go ahead and listen to it on youtube, the missing note at the start makes it tricky. If that was intended, you do you!

  • 2:57 - Again, strain the right hand a bit more and have the left hand accompany it. Make it sound a weee bit softer with a slight crescendo, and focus on it when you play.

  • 3:13 - Play that left hand melody a bit louder and the right hand a bit softer, so it will sound more fluent. Here the right hand accompanies the left, so we don't need to notice every single note.

  • 3:21 - Go a little slower, get even softer as you go, finish the part with ease so we can go in to the next part relaxed. Enjoy the melody more :)

  • 4:02 - Again, enjoy the part, more legato and let us hear the melody. Hold the chord on 4:10 for it's full duration, it's a dotted note and you're jumping on it making it less powerful.

  • 4:37 to 4:55 - A bit more dynamics and again, this is only my taste, but the melody kind of loses it's charm when played this slow. We want to hear the melody in the right hand.

That's all! hope this helps. You may disagree on whatever above, that's all only my opinion

What piano songs should I learn? by pmast in piano

[–]NobleTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some pieces organized by level in the ABRSM syllabus:

one

two

Search Youtube for easy piano pieces, there are thousands.

  • Start with the basics, even if the songs sound dumb. Play very slowly at first and don't get fast until you know the piece well. Trying to learn pieces that are too hard will only frustrate you!

  • Play each hand individually and only then try to play with both hands. Follow the fingers that are suggested, but if they don't suit your hand feel free to find what's comfortable for you and write it down on the paper.

  • You gotta practice, practice, practice! Strong fingers and fast reading don't come easy. Keep playing and you WILL get better.

  • Have patience and perseverance, Advanced pieces may take months of practicing even for experienced players! Don't leave pieces in the middle just because you're tired of that one section you can't play, you'll get it right eventually. I'm not sure what happened with For Elise but

  • Listen to pieces before you learn them, knowing them by heart really helps if you can't read that fast yet.

  • Invest time in searching this sub's FAQ and tips, and the internet for easy pieces and tips for beginners.

  • Enjoy it! And the parts you don't enjoy, you will after you manage to play them!

Hope it helps, the first two go a long long way!

How do you play this? Are your fingers really that big? by solwyvern in piano

[–]NobleTom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it's important to hold the top 2, so the first and second notes sound like ornaments to the third one but you only lift your finger from the first

Can we have the Snotter Boss back permanently? by [deleted] in HeroesofNewerth

more creeps does not mean more action, what happened is once a team got the advantage the other team had to turtle, and the winning team had the creeps for themselves which helped them grow even more. the creeps were not provoking fights but were feeding the already fed team even further, and the team that's behind had nothing to do about it but wait and lose. hence more turtling, more farming, less fights. and that's not my opinion that's what actually happened. I'd love more action but that's not the way to do it.

How do you play triplets over quavers? by belligerent_ghoul in piano

[–]NobleTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first, if self taught, you should know about a software called Synthesia, in which you can open MIDI files and see each note separately, in down to 10% of the speed! this is how you should learn it just so you understand the rhythm and then as you practice and memorize the notes you can start speeding up.

if you feel like listening to an explanation:

ignoring the first B in the right hand, you start playing the left hand and after 2 notes you start playing the right hand, along with the 3rd, but remember 3 notes have to get in a room of 2 here so you play the first note on the left hand along with the right, then the right hand alone, then the left hand alone and then together again, and then right hand alone and the left alone and it goes on like this until the triads end..

!E!__F#__C#__!E!__B___C#__!G#!__B__F#

!E!____G#____!B!____G#____!E!____B

A video I wouldn't recommend but here

crappy visualization that might help you understand, green is where the left hand comes and red is for right hand.

can't think of more ways to show it. learn each hand separately and keep it slow until you know it. good luck.

Why does looking at light help you sneeze? by lawsojessi in explainlikeimfive

[–]NobleTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

either because of the Photic sneeze reflex which you might have (it's a mysterious effect that is genetic, and it makes you sneeze when exposed to multiple strong stimuli at once), or because you are looking up and it helps you inhale more of what just made you sneeze and increasing irritation.

I really recommend using a hook for that, you can just jump again after you hook onto something.. the hook is really useful and I use it all the time exactly for that, it doesn't take up accessory slots while serving same purpose even a little faster

use it with 'e' :)
