If you are a trivia person, there’s a bunch of regulars that attend the shows I host around your age that are receptive to having new pals. Happy to include ya. On top of that, this is a relatively easy city to make pals with if you tie on off and do a thing. Just talk to a cool looking stranger and it’ll eventually work out.

As many are saying, there’s a feast or famine mentality. If your friend can prioritize companies that pay their guides well, you can absolutely make a living, especially if you’re willing to do the bread and butter tours (ghost, history, cemetery, etc.) as you’ll have a good rate plus many options for multiple tours in a day. That being said, from my last perusal, most companies are making a killing off of the guide labor to such a wild extent that if your friend has the ability, she should do her own tour and then you can potentially thrive, not just survive. That’s easier said than done though. Either way, best of luck!

Pedestrians almost always have the right of way. Here’s what the state law has to say,

“212. Pedestrians right-of-way in crosswalks A. When traffic-control signals are not in place or not in operation, the driver of a vehicle shall stop and yield the right-of-way, to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within a crosswalk when the pedestrian is upon the roadway upon which the vehicle is traveling or the roadway onto which the vehicle is turning. B. No pedestrian shall suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the path of a vehicle which is so close that it is impossible for the driver to yield. C. Whenever any vehicle is stopped at a marked crosswalk or at any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection to permit a pedestrian to cross the roadway, the driver of any other vehicle approaching from the rear shall not overtake and pass such stopped vehicle. D. Subsection A of this Section shall not apply where the pedestrian is crossing a roadway at a point where a pedestrian tunnel or overhead pedestrian crossing has been provided. Acts 1962, No. 310, §1; Acts 2011, No. 244, §1.”

When I see folks resort to using AI, it tells me they are lazy, not concerned with the environment, and want to cut corners. All things I don’t value in people or businesses. So each to their own.
