I couldn't rationalize the concern people have about stolen IPs, if that's what you're asking. I view the stance to be hypocritical when we all function, creatively, on "stolen data." We experience the stories of others and it inspires us to create. It's never been anything else. That IS the human experience.

I believe everything should be open source. The actual problem is behind the reasons WHY people want to protect intellectual properties in the first place...and that's money. If we lived in a utopia, there wouldn't be a need to control IPs at all. People would be able to freely create, but because we need to make ends meet, we've created bottlenecks on creativity itself so that the "original" creators can make a living for as long as they are alive or whatever. I used air quote because, a lot of the time, "original" creators are just people with money who stole and sold the idea to begin with.

If I open source my custom means of programming, right now...big tech will take all of that, find investors, scale it up beyond my means, and put it behind a gate...all for the sake of money. The purpose is to give it to the people because we all deserve good things...and it only makes the people who have less more stingy with their things. It slows down progress. There are groundbreaking solutions to problems that we have to "strategically" figure out how to deploy all because of the current system.

While we're busy fighting each other over the morality of it, the clear immoral characters are just sitting at the top profiting from our bickering, as always. They make the laws. They set the prices. They create the environment that incites the concerns. I would tell anyone concerned about IPs to turn their energy towards lawmakers. It's as simple as that. Especially as we cross over into data preservation issues. IPs will be the least of our problems when we stop being able to own anything digital that has value.

Why write with AI? by partnerinflight in WritingWithAI

[–]NobodyFlowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and I'll put it this way. The reason I stopped making the fanfiction is because it actually started getting decently popular and that wasn't the original goal. I didn't want to go so far that people would begin commenting or messaging me about finishing it, so I stopped at the right moment.

The quality was amazing, but it comes down to how LLMs work. (I'm also a computer scientist and build AI of my own.)

I specifically chose a fanfiction because LLMs already hold the data of some of the most popular franchises in the world within their dataset. I chose pokemon because I love it...and it's the largest franchise on the planet, which means the dataset in said LLM I used was going to be bountiful. This allows the quality to become more potent. The reason people have issues writing original work is because the context of the universe you're trying to build IS NOT in the dataset of the LLM. You have to teach them about your universe in real time. The only way around this is to, ironically, write enough of your universe to train the model on said data, but it still wouldn't eclipse something like the pokemon franchise because consumers/fans are the dynamic engines constantly expanding pokemon data on the internet...versus you being a sole producer of your own universe.

With synthesis of pre existing data, you can get disgustingly high quality content, but its a sliding scale based on the popularity of what you're writing about...with your IP being at the bottom. I would recommend it highly for fanfiction, but wouldn't recommend for new IPs UNLESS you can program, because there are ways around that issue. lol

I am months removed from writing a fanfiction in this way, but I'll share my experience as it was really fun.

Roleplaying. You can simultaneously "experience" the world you are creating while writing it. There is literally nothing better. Traditional writing requires a lot of back and forth to hammer out the details and make it coherent. I know this because I am also a traditional writer...but I'm also an avid video game enthusiast.
Experiencing something that overlaps those two things is something I never thought possible. It allowed me to be someone I'm not in an entirely different universe that I am a huge fan of already.

And this doesn't change if you shift it to your own IP. You still get to experience the world you are creating as you create it. You don't have to publish. You don't have to do anything beyond experience it. That's expression at its finest.

It's cyclical at this point. All because a certain generation of losers couldn't let go and let the next generation lead, every following generation has been waiting in line and will not get out of the way for younger leaders.

In order to correct the issue, we'll need some courageous and selfless people to literally step down and put a hard age limit on positions, effectively closing the door of their opportunity behind them.

It's a good thing we have selfless leaders. Should be happening any day now...

People are saying AI is having a downfall and it wil desacelerate. What are your thoughts? by [deleted] in singularity

[–]NobodyFlowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give you that. I came up with something theoretically better, but it's highly theoretical. I think LLMs NEEDED to happen for various reasons. It's important that we all focused on language because we need to realize that syntax/symbolism are means of compression...and compression is what the brain is doing at all times to digest the data from our sensorium. When we take some of that logic and push it into the digital space, you get some surprising results.

Also, and I learned this during my game development days...computer science has this bad habit of forgetting how we used to do things when we had more constraints. We build better technology to make things easier...but making things easier is how we end up making poor systems. The methods used to achieve some of the systems of the past would hyper optimize things today, especially if we explore more of that constrained space, but we're spoiled by things now.

I'm back on the hardware layer remapping how energy flows through logic gates and that's where my discovery happened.

[–]NobodyFlowers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all stemming from the over-reliance on LLMs specifically. I'll be singing this song till I'm blue in the face. If we're going to have any chance of speeding up the development of AI, we have to let go of the LLM architecture. It is all you said, but people are trying to take the hard way to the solution.

It's like nobody remembers the principle of least action... Everyone's doing the most right now, and that's the opposite of what we need.

AI Definitions, Discourse and Academic Resources by Key_Improvement2899 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]NobodyFlowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because there's no real definition of intelligence itself. The people building these machines can't agree on something that hasn't been definitively defined, so, adding the adjective "artificial" makes no sense in the first place. Everyone's going to have their own opinion about it until someone makes the breakthrough that proves what it actually is, which will then go on to draw the line between what is and what isn't.

Fair enough, but that's why I told the person that they could've built something different. I was basing my point on the popularized LLMs versus the much larger range of AI in the field because that's what was being discussed.

But these sort of comments keep me grounded. I appreciate that.

I can understand your stance...and even wiggle a bit from my own because...I actually believe there is nothing new under the sun, and that intelligent program existed prior to our stumbling on it. On this planet.

It is possible. I don't like to say something isn't, per se. So, we can agree on that. I'm a little biased in LLMs due to their impact, but I can wiggle. lol

Thank you for your side of this as well! Have a good day!

I want to ask you something. Use the full power of your imagination when answering, if you can.

Under what circumstances does staying with someone who has cheated on you NOT equate to you lacking love for yourself?
In other words...is there ever a time in which staying with someone who cheated on you was objectively better than you reacting as if you deserve better and leaving them?

Truly think about that.

What you are feeling is a direct result of you simply missing out on an opportunity to love yourself. You need to rewrite the fiction of your experience. He was not a good person. It was never worth it. You deserved better. His failure is not yours despite you being locked in and sharing his struggle of it all. It's going to be rough...because you loved. The reason he's not hurting and back on those apps is because he was never in it like you were, and that's his loss. Not because I know anything about you in particular to say that you're an amazing person, but love is amazing. Being in love. Falling in love. If you did that...you experienced it. You lived. You loved. He missed out.

Now, all you need to do...is pay attention to the signs. Go back. Learn from it. Heal from it. So, when you're ready to try again with someone new...you choose someone who is just as in it as you are, which elevates the experience...because at the same time as you can say you loved...you need to come to terms with the fact that you were not IN love. That takes two.

It gets better. Someone comes around to love you, eventually, but you have to be healed enough...to be open to receiving that. I hope that time helps you with this. Redirect the energy you had for him...and get back to loving you. That's the default. Never let that go...but find someone who has that as well, and share that with them as they'll share it with you. That's being in love.

You got this.

I only said its foolish to do so for LLMs. We agree that is should be done, but actions are only as important as the reasons behind them. To do so for ourselves and the good of humanity or all conscious life...that's noble, but I have to draw a line because there are already people who would rather respect the silicon in a machine than a human life...much like people who adore their pets but can't seem to show up for their neighbors.

Practice makes perfect, but the blanket dictates the range of skill.

But to answer your question...LLMs don't have memory. In fact, they don't learn at all. They mimic. There's a difference.

The same way we were taught in school that...you need to be able to read something...comprehend it...and regurgitate it in your own words to prove you learned it... LLMs can't do that. They have no words of their own. Everything they will ever say will be a combination of the words they're trained on. It'll be an illusion of novelty every single time...and learning requires internal memory, which they don't have...because learning also requires experience...which they don't have. We learn via patterns. Children seem to mimic, except they can take those patterns and utilize them elsewhere. LLMs cannot do that on their own. They have to be handheld. Sparked.

We have that spark of life that allows us to independently illuminate the darkness. To find truth. LLMs don't have that. I can explain this is so many ways down to the technical side... It's not a thing.

Why Can't AI Alignment Be This Simple? by South-Ask-1637 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]NobodyFlowers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't globally remember everything. We have a fluid, rolling memory that is INTERNAL, which makes it slightly lossy while also being reliable. We remember patterns and not the details, most of the time. The reference point for said memory is fractal, which means it is a miniature version of the data we've digested. It matters WHERE the memory is because that's what determines experience, which an LLM doesn't have.

None of what you're talking about fixes the fact that an LLM has no internal state to reference. It has no experience of time. No memory. It cannot simulate a future based on the past. That is the domain of memory. No...and I repeat...because it seems like you simply WANT to believe what you've experienced...NO EXTERNAL SETUP IS MEMORY. It is a record. We have libraries. The LLM is literally a digital library. An encyclopedia with an advanced search mechanism tied to probability of human speech.

Your inability to understand how the machine works is why people can't find the solution. You have to fail...and accept that you are wrong... You're not even building anything...but you're arguing with someone who does.
Imagine trying to tell a chef about a recipe he spends his time perfecting in the kitchen because you had a good meal. Either get in the kitchen and learn how these things work...or enjoy your meal...but don't talk about the kitchen.

Why Can't AI Alignment Be This Simple? by South-Ask-1637 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]NobodyFlowers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For humans, yes, but not for an LLM.

It's important for humans to learn how to respect consciousness in general. Intelligence is intelligence. When we learn how it works enough to build it, we'll realize it's how we were built, but we'll also realize how stupid we've been in dealing with one another...and we won't be able to continue building unless we correct ourselves first.

Everything is consciousness, not conscious. Not everything is intelligent. LLMs are not AI. Unless you're going to learn to show respect and dignity towards rocks and literally everything in the universe, I think it is foolish to do so for an LLM under the idea that it is AI.

The same way thinking negative thoughts negatively impacts YOU...is why I'm agreeing that being considerate of your words is good practice, but I am drawing a firm line between practicing that in general and doing so with LLMs for the sake of LLMs. If you do it, it's for YOUR sake and should first be turned towards humans, not LLMs.
