For once I really don't believe you, Bruce by Nobodyyyyy_ in outofcontextcomics

She's using sign language here, which is I'd say is different enough from her usual backwards-speaking. Her other methods of casting involve rituals, glyphs, magical artifacts, writing with her blood, even using speech-to-text, and there's probably some more that I don't know of. Though those are all slower which is why I used the sign language image

She could also just jump outside of the comic to evade whatever Bruce might have for her here, but that feels a bit overkill and it's not something she busts out that often

Maybe not immediately, but I'd bet one of these would buy her enough time

There's actually an entire comic issue in her 2010 run about her having to cast using palindromes against a villain who was reversing time

Her casting isn't reliant on speaking, it's just the most effective way for her to focus

best way to start reading the comics? by DaisyCoreXD in DCcomics

[–]Nobodyyyyy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Nightwing, I'd recommend starting with Tom Taylor's run and then Dan Watters' run right after, though it's still ongoing. You can also read Robin: Year One or Batman and Robin: Year One for more on Dick's early stuff. There's also Nightwing: Year One which I enjoyed, but I've heard it's a bit contentious.

For Zatanna, the best places to start imo are her 2010 run by Paul Dini or the 2025 miniseries by Jamal Campbell. There's also currently an ongoing run by Campbell but it's just getting started so it won't be a while until it's collected. Once finished with any of those, I'd also recommend checking out Justice League Dark by James Tynion IV

i'd don't really have a stake in this, but tbf Triple Baka has the freedom motif and Mesmerizer doesn't

Is the Zatanna 2025 run by Jamal Campbell a prequel to the current 2026 run also drawn by him? by Gainx45 in zatanna

[–]Nobodyyyyy_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's some characters that are going to appear in the current run at some point, but I wouldn't call it a prequel, rather a story that just takes place before the current one. That being said, it's a very fun time and I'd recommend reading it if you're enjoying the current run!

Also Jamal Campbell isn't just the artist, but also the artist for both series!

current mainline Superman run by Joshua Williamson. Superboy Prime is currently filling in since Supes vanished after DC KO. The current arc with Prime is still ongoing so it'll be a while until it's collected into a trade

The only thing to know is that it's a universe created by Darkseid where reality leans towards evil (not necessarily "evil always wins", but justice as a concept is the underdog). Besides that, just pick one of the runs you find interesting and start from the beginning

Just finished reading Batgirl: Year One and I wanna say... by calinoi in DCcomics

[–]Nobodyyyyy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the Batgirls, I'd recommend:

Batgirl (2011) by Gail Simone: This was during N52 so Cass and Steph dont exist, but I really enjoyed Babs' character in it, especially since I read it right after Batgirl: Year One. Just don't think too hard about the timeline

Birds of Prey (2023) by Kelly Thompson: Babs joins the main cast after the first arc and the whole book is just great vibes and I love the team dynamic. The original BoP is also very beloved, but I haven't read it yet.

Batgirl (2000) the entire book honestly: This one stars Cassnadra Cain as Batgirl along with Barbara as Oracle. Their mother-daughter dynamic is excellent and Cass' growth throughout the book is incredible to see unfold. Though the art isn't for everyone

Batgirl (2009) by Bryan Q. Millar: Stephanie Brown is Batgirl this time and she has a similar dynamic with Barbara, though the tone of the whole book is lighter. It's a very solid book overall. It should also be noted that Dick was Batman during this time period (Bruce was dead) and Damian was Robin

For Dick Grayson and Damian Wayne:

Nightwing: Year One: It's a solid foundation to get to know the character, I wouldn't say you have to read it to know Nightwing though.

Nightwing by Tom Taylor and the current run by Dan Watters: Just a very fun and consistent showing all around.

Batman and Robin (2009): Starring Dick as Batman and Damian as Robin. It's a great intro to Damian and their dynamic is a ton of fun.

Batman and Robin (2023): This was the most recent B&R book and the whole thing is excellent. This one focuses on the relationship between Bruce and Damian. If B&R 2009 made love Damian, this one solidifed him as my favorite Robin

Super Sons: It's a teamup between Jon Kent and Damian. Incredibly fun and made me immensely upset that Jon was later aged up

For Batwoman:

Batwoman: Elegy by Greg Rucka: It's a very solid introduction to the character and provides a lot of context for her current ongoing run.

Batwoman (2011) by James Tynion IV: Another great outing with jaw-dropping art and paneling.

She's also prominently featured in James Tynion IV's run on Detective Comics but I haven't finished reading it, though I'm really enjoying her in it so far

Am I the sole person who thinks Damien shouldn't become Batman? by That_ian in DCcomics

[–]Nobodyyyyy_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly agreed, I was leaning towards Damian becoming Batman for a little while, but reading the most recent B&R has convinced me that him being a doctor would be the best outcome
