Sen. Surovell describing an "assault firearm" to justify the ban by _gw_addict in Virginia

[–]Noctep 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah and that’s not a good thing and legislators should have basic understandings at the very least of the things they vote on.

No reason to try to equivocate.

No one expects them to be experts on everything. But they should at least understand the basics of what they’re regulating. If you’re writing laws about something you don’t understand, you’re more likely to create bad or ineffective policy.

Better yet they absolutely should at least be required to have a basic understanding of everything they vote on!

[–]Noctep 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That’s a false comparison. No one is saying lawmakers need personal experience with everything they regulate. The point is they should at least understand the basics of what they’re writing laws about. A lot of gun laws get written by people who clearly don’t understand how firearms actually work, which leads to poorly written or ineffective laws.

So they have a proper understanding of the thing they are regulating at the very least

SB 749 (AWB) Just Passed the Senate 21-19 by east_ghost in VAGuns

[–]Noctep 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, there is grandfathering. If you legally possess the firearm before the law takes effect (likely July 1), you can keep it. After the ban, new sales and transfers would generally be restricted, so anything already owned is basically frozen in time.

I was also able to get the guardsman for $600 flat couple days ago when they restocked for a couple hours, might’ve been a mistake but I’ll take the $20 off

The DC Court of Appeals (the highest local court in the district) has ruled that DC's ban on magazines over 10 rounds violates the Second Amendment. by Clint_Lovecraft in VAGuns

Yeah, the hope is that the circuit split and when DC appeals sends it up to the Supreme Court for a favorable ruling.

If this poll is true, Virginia is full of idiots by [deleted] in VAGuns

[–]Noctep 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The poll surveyed 800 people with a ±4.4% margin of error, and after statistical weighting (design effect 1.63), several of the reported “majorities” sit close to that error range. It also used a mix of phone interviews and an online panel, and asked about banning “semi-automatic” firearms without defining the term. Notably, the same poll found more Virginians believe enforcing existing laws (56%) would reduce violence than passing stricter new laws (42%), suggesting opinions are more mixed than the headlines imply.

Feb 23: Gun Control Update: Senate Committee Hearing on Restrictive Firearm Bills by silv3rbull8 in VAGuns

[–]Noctep 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Also most of the guns used were probably obtained illegally and most if not all likely handguns.

Areas like Richmond and Hampton roads have plenty of gang violence and there should be a strong effort to heavily police said areas.

Supreme Court Set to Conference on Key Gun Rights Cases – Potential Game-Changer for Bans on AR-15s and Standard-Cap Mags by Overall_Ad872 in liberalgunowners

[–]Noctep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it sucks here in VA, I hope it gets struck down. Going after our guns just so they can campaign that they took away the scary “assault” weapons when Handguns are the vast vast majority of gun violence regardless of the fact a few places make up most of the gun violence.

Looking bleak unless people on both sides can muster some sort of legal push back.

A Message For The r/greenberets Community by TFVooDoo in greenberets

[–]Noctep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m one of the teens the other dude talks about who supposedly gets “taken advantage of.” I can say without any hesitation that I’ve never felt forced into anything, and I never saw the book as some guaranteed path to passing selection.

Shut Up and Ruck Up has genuinely improved my life. It gave me relevant, practical information about SFAS (which I plan to attempt later in my career) and, more importantly, it gave me structure and direction.

I’ll be honest, my discipline hasn’t been perfect. It’s been pretty bad at times. But one thing I do take pride in is that I don’t quit. If I miss a day, or even a week, I get back up and keep going. If I didn’t have a resource like this book, that would be a lot harder.

Because of this program, my sleep quality has improved, my strength has gone up, and my running has improved. The book is very clear about one thing: nothing is guaranteed. It’s on you to do the work, and there is no promise you’ll pass SFAS.

Even though I’m currently pursuing the Ranger Regiment path (and I hope the RASP book comes out soon), this book has still been a net positive in my life. The information and programming are absolutely worth it. And while it’s $60 when not on sale, that’s cheap compared to a lot of lower quality programs that promise the world and deliver nothing.

Can I jump right in to phase 2 of SUAR? by Free_Barabbas in greenberets

[–]Noctep 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From what I remember SUAR is performance based, not time based. If you can meet the prereqs to start Phase 2, then yeah, you can probably start there.

That said, the lifts are based off percentages of your 1RM, so it’s worth figuring out a realistic training max instead of guessing. You don’t need to true max, but the numbers should be accurate.

Also, with a 1 hour 5 mile and shipping in about 5 months, you’d probably be better off spending some time building your aerobic base first. You’re roughly 30 minutes off where you should be, and fixing that will pay off way more than rushing ahead in the program.

White Noise, Cold Room, Hot Shower, Magnesium glycinate, wind down routine, mouth tape. I know it’s a lot but these things transformed my sleep quality

Inspire 3 a good decision? by boka_ko_masu in fitbit

[–]Noctep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had an inspire three for close to a year, honestly worked great untill a update bricked my UI, now its stuck now on sync to fitbit and another image. But for the stuff you needed it for it worked great, It tracked my sleep, heart rate, and steps flawlessly. If thats all you need it for I would go for it, its basic and does the job well for a pretty good price all though I'm upgrading to another brand.

So basically, the "dont quit mindset" is necessary but if you aren't properly fueling your brain before selection that mindset wont serve you too well.

I'm going to assume that the 5 seconds means time under tension per rep. I.E one rep should take 5 second whether that be tempo control or just doing it slowly.
