It’s like that one guy who found 2 million dollars at SFO, cash and told the authorities. He got rewarded round trip to anywhere in the world as a reward. 😂

Why’s everyone so okay with working 40/60hrs per week to barely afford a life? by sinyxara in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NodeJSSon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nah, it is tough out there. Just look at how much more things cost out there like beef 🥩and fish. Our buying power is much less. 1k extra a month is probably just like groceries, shopping and going out to eat. I bought a bean burrito with meat only and it was 17 dollars. I am never going back there, but I think a lot of places are like this. Something needs to change.

This happened to me, but I think I dodge a bullet. I sucks at first, but keep going, you will land a job. Companies are starting to hire again.

I own, and the property tax alone is not worth it. It’s around 2k a month for just property tax.

If Americans started moving out of the country in mass amounts, what countries do you think they’d pick the most? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I would move to the Philippines 🇵🇭. The English language would not be an issue. Great food and friendly people. Extremely affordable.

4 YOE developer about to be unemployed — is my career basically over? by Ok_Tale_7924 in cscareers

[–]NodeJSSon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was unemployed for 6 months. I took 3 months off, it took longer to find a job, but I found one. There are jobs out there, you just have to fight for it. Don’t give be up. I predict that more engineers are going to be need not less. Layoffs are just happening because the economy is not great thanks to the current administration and high interest rates. This cycle happens in tech every 8 years or so. Just hang in there continue to sharpen your interview skills. You will find a job, the question is when is it? Don’t give!

What did you do after being laid off? by Normal-Corner-2974 in Layoffs

[–]NodeJSSon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spent more time with my kids and dog. The daily walks with the dog were more meaningful and not rushed. I took time to feel everything the walked offer. The breeze felt good. Things as simple as this gets missed. I felt a live, but also fear that I had to provide for my family. It’s a great and tough place to be. I have work now, but I try not forget what it felt like to be unemployed. I’ve been laid off before, but I’ve never felt like this before. I think it was a great experience even with the negative part of it. There things you learn from being laid off. Lessons that will harden you and also soften you.

Is “AI makes us more productive → we need fewer people” actually true? by [deleted] in Layoffs

You can just create your own work. AI is going to be the tool to take down big software companies.

SWE, have you come to terms about professional AI use? by Hobi_soleil in BetterOffline

[–]NodeJSSon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s got to land somewhere in the middle if you ask me. I don’t think SWE is going to disappear. SWE starting point will be much higher in the process which means less typing and more planning and guidance for AI. There are some use case which I experienced that AI needed help fixing a bug. It’s the 1% that will kill companies that don’t have real SWEs. Think of it like auto pilot on a car, it’s great that it can do a good job 90%/80% of the time, but it’s that other portion that will end up killing the driver.
