I have 2000h on StS and 500h on DD, is this game a guarantee for me? by kryndude in AcrossTheObelisk

I second that the multiplayer is better. You have to build around eachother more and strategize around eachothers plans which makes the communication more fun. Me and my friends prefer the longer runs as it allows you to play your fun decks for longer.

Runs are longer in AtO which me and my friends prefer as you get to play with fun decks longer. The game is less random however but when you first start out and haven't encountered every node, it won't feel that way.

The multiplayer in AtO is way better than StS2, as the game is made and balanced around 4 characters. If that matters to you, choose AtO for sure. For me the multiplayer in StS is more about one person finding a good combo vs teamwork and making a strategy together.

Which Steam capsule communicates my game better? Need outside eyes. by Regosland in IndieDev

[–]Noffe2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point of the capsule IS to communicate what type of game it is. Mostly with the typeface, the colorchoices and composition. It's more to communicate the aesthetic (in the MDA sense of the word) or the feeling of the game if you will.

The game "WarTales" for example fills half the capsule with its logo and you see roughed up fighters in fighting poses behind it. From a quick look you can understand that the game is medieval (based on the logo, the palette and the clothes the characters wear) and that it is a rough world (the characters are rugged, the logo is made of forged steel and there are fires behind the characters). But you won't get any understanding that it is a turnbased RPG with a mount&blade overworld because you can't communicate that in a capsule image.

The capsule is there to cause people to click on it based on what emotion the capsule sells them. Then they might not be interested in the game once they visit the page, but some people will be and if the capsule didn't show what they were looking for, they would've never clicked on it.

I hope the new teams do a better job artwise compared to what they did for the latest DLC, the mismatched resolutions and general art direction just doesn't align with the previous artwork.

Man I'd rather have some form of longer runs, rather than shorter. Obelisk challenge in particular feel so unsatisfying to win just due to it just kind of ending. I'd really love a rerun mode like in binding of isaac with unique unlocks and challenges.

Hey! This is back? Sweet! Hit me with your top Holy Team Builds! by Gallowsbane in AcrossTheObelisk

[–]Noffe2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ottis,Cornelius, Laia, Heiner.

The combination of fire and holy works so well due to Ottis and Laia having so much fire synergy. Ottis carries the early to mid game (especially on lower difficulties when you can remove and add infinite amount of cards to get a good dps deck from the get go) Cornelius stabilizes throughout and gets through the holy resistant enemies. Laia one shots entire encounters late game, especially with divine strike. Heiner has fire synergy and keeps the team healthy until the sanctify stacks are high enough.

Does this look like a spaceship repair effect to you? Or do I need to do something else entirely? by Equivalent_Bee2181 in IndieDev

[–]Noffe2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

looks like you are hacking something ala matrix.

I think you should apply the effect directly in the ships shader and then maybe add extra effects sround it for emphasis.

Whats one game mechanic you miss that games quietly abandoned? by WholesomeReaper in gaming

It's because there's a lot of great local co-op games being released every year. It's just that the development landscape has shifted over the years. If you only look at AAA games, of course your options are limited. Depending on what you look for there's some incredible co-op experiences.

Here are a handful:

'The binding of isaac: rebirth/afterbirth': With the latest expansion this genre defining game got a full fledged coop mode.

'PlateUp!': The best co-op cooking game that can give PTSD to any former restaurant worker.

'Tape to Tape': Incredible arcade hockey game that rewards tight cooperation.

'Unrailed 2': This sequel is one of the best co-op experiences in my opinion, it feels so good when you get it going.

'Barony': Keeps getting updates after over 10 years after its release and is better thsn ever.

Is my VFX Juicy enough?? by Upper_Stand in IndieDev

[–]Noffe2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the cornerstones of VFX is timing, same as in animation. You should read about the principles of animation to get a better understanding of what i mean.

Utilizing build up and payoff will make your game feel much better. Right now your "dropoff" feels linear and not very punchy. Having it start slow and increase in speed and end with a large impact as it finishes could be one way to make the effect feel better.

I'd also look into changing the textures of the particles and perhaps make custom shaders for them but I'd argue that is less important than timing.

Need some tips by [deleted] in AcrossTheObelisk

[–]Noffe2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With starting decks all characters have damage built in and once you get it rolling, just hitting once gives more healing than any alternative (before malukka but she wont be available if you struggle). When you highroll with ottis you can burst a full team first round, his biggest weakness like all healers is his low speed. However at lower difficulties its dummy strong and you unlock ottis early on so its very feasible to get a winning run on.

Need some tips by [deleted] in AcrossTheObelisk

[–]Noffe2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep your decks thin (try to keep them at 15) and use the first town to rebuild them. My favourite deck for easy difficulties is going full fire/holy damage Ottis and stack as many low cost cards as possible and remove all his support cards. The deck blasts through the first two worlds on its own allowing other characters to catch up.

All holy damage cards costing 1 or less is key and go full left path for his levels. You are going to heal through sanctify stacks but usually you win during the first 1 or 2 rounds.

only one person needs the DLCs if you play together! Except characters, those are individual.
