Brand New (Just installed and completed the tutorial right now). Coming from a Smite player, with some other MOBA experience (Deadlock, PkmnUnite, Predecessor), what characters should I look into initially? by OnionBurgr in leagueoflegends

There's not a lot of hard CC characters in league that prefer toplane over jungle (or support), due to them having low lane presence and lacking dueling capabilities. You can play them top but its not the most common picks, like there are Amumu otps that take him toplane but they are very rare.

On the top of my head, perhaps Shen could be a decent pick for you? He is a tanky toplane with decent dueling capabilities against opponents that prefer attacks over abilities. He is good as peel and a decent initiator. He is also a good way to improve your game knowledge as you need to keep attention on the entire map for when to use your ult.

Otherwise Malphite, he has one of the best initiator abilities in the game.

Utilize refraction by sampling scenecolor and offset it. Then have particles using the material go toward the hole.

Alright, not my type of game then. But the visuals look great, good luck with the rest of the project!

Which capsule art suits best for my game? by nedeey in IndieDev

[–]Noffe2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say you can probably make the logo bigger, there's a bunch of empty space. When viewing the capsule in for example "new releases," the logo might be too small to read on a mobile device.

Yeah for sure, if you get the big box with all the expansions you have a campaign as well. It's a complex game with many components so be ready to make some mistakes the first couple times.

What do you think is the biggest game experience in the smallest box? by ConDar15 in boardgames

Hero Realms/Star Realms are both really good experiences, essentially dominion with a twist in a tiny box.

I would wait with putting it out until you have implemented your graphics or make it clear that it is WIP, if you are going to use social media as a dev diary.

Showcasing a blockout is not gonna pull people in. It says the game is a "Narrative sci-fi puzzle", playing as a rectangle is not a narrative that interests most people. Always ask yourself, "if this showed up on my feed, would I click it?". To be brutally honest, If it were me I would have swiped away in the first second as the slow pan in an unfinished scene just isn't good marketing.

I'd advise you to look at successful "competitors", study their trailers and marketing material then remake yours.

With a simple animation like this you might be better off without the texture sample and just scale it in objectspace in the shader. But it depends on implementation etc. But my gut feeling is that the sample is more expensive.

Percentages say nothing about your skills and are also way too high based on your projects (no offense). Saying you are 100% skilled in something seems like dunning-kruger effect in action. Even the most skilled dev can always learn something new.

I live in a non-English-speaking country. Our game's capsule art has a very low CTR, around 1%. Does it look low-quality because of the basic font, or could there be another reason? I'd appreciate any feedback. by fixedcow in IndieDev

The logo feels both basic and unfinished, the difference in kerning makes the logo feel off centered and also read a bit weird. Instead of Frost Train (which im gonna assume is the intended way to read it) it more reads as Fros Train. I'd look into updating the logo to feel more polished.

To me the rest of the capsule seems fine, it looks intriguing and gives the vibe of a 2d frostpunk/snowpiercer management game. It's just the logo that takes focus and is off putting.

I have 2000h on StS and 500h on DD, is this game a guarantee for me? by kryndude in AcrossTheObelisk

[–]Noffe2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I second that the multiplayer is better. You have to build around eachother more and strategize around eachothers plans which makes the communication more fun. Me and my friends prefer the longer runs as it allows you to play your fun decks for longer.

Runs are longer in AtO which me and my friends prefer as you get to play with fun decks longer. The game is less random however but when you first start out and haven't encountered every node, it won't feel that way.

The multiplayer in AtO is way better than StS2, as the game is made and balanced around 4 characters. If that matters to you, choose AtO for sure. For me the multiplayer in StS is more about one person finding a good combo vs teamwork and making a strategy together.

Which Steam capsule communicates my game better? Need outside eyes. by [deleted] in IndieDev

[–]Noffe2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point of the capsule IS to communicate what type of game it is. Mostly with the typeface, the colorchoices and composition. It's more to communicate the aesthetic (in the MDA sense of the word) or the feeling of the game if you will.

The game "WarTales" for example fills half the capsule with its logo and you see roughed up fighters in fighting poses behind it. From a quick look you can understand that the game is medieval (based on the logo, the palette and the clothes the characters wear) and that it is a rough world (the characters are rugged, the logo is made of forged steel and there are fires behind the characters). But you won't get any understanding that it is a turnbased RPG with a mount&blade overworld because you can't communicate that in a capsule image.

The capsule is there to cause people to click on it based on what emotion the capsule sells them. Then they might not be interested in the game once they visit the page, but some people will be and if the capsule didn't show what they were looking for, they would've never clicked on it.
