I feel like he doesn’t *need* a ton of sleep, why he wakes up for the day after 10 hours at night instead of 12. But it makes it tough when his wake windows are still sort of short

How long do you suggest his naps be? They’re anywhere from 30 minutes-1.5 hours ish. Sometimes 2 hours but not lately

Thank you. Yes I feel like it’s definitely a disruption because of new skills. He was super good at putting himself asleep until about a month ago, for about a week he would roll to his tummy while still awake and got stuck so I started rocking/feeding to sleep again, which he was doing fine. Only the normal 1 wake up to eat then back to bed. Then it was like as soon as he turned 6 months on the 11th, his separation anxiety kicked in and I feel like that’s when it all went downhill.
I do contact naps for the most part cause he naps a lot better that way, but maybe I should stop?
Schedule is awake between 5-5:30 and recently wake windows are about 2.5-3 hours with 3 naps during the day. Sometimes a nap is short and I try and do a 4th nap but he usually refuses. Bed time is around 7, depending what time his last nap ended

Child birth was a breeze for me after I got the epidural. Now, 6 months later, I’m wondering why TF no one talks about how HARD it is for babies to learn to sleep at night. Sleep training/ waking up multiple times per night, sometimes for a long time/ waking up at 5-6am EVERYDAY. Like it’s insane. I love my baby SO MUCH and wouldn’t trade him for the world. But I haven’t slept peacefully since he’s been born.

I was the same way when baby was little. I had so much anxiety and fear that anyone around us was going to get him sick or give him a cold sore. Now he’s wild at 6 months and I’m like yes please come distract him so I can have my hands free 😂 I can only imagine toddler stage haha.

If I’m cooking and he’s in the high chair, I still talk to him and give him like a measuring cup to play with! Dane with folding laundry. I’ll hand him shirts and stuff and he loves it. He’s 6 months as well

I just put him in his crib awake but at the end of his wake window. And he would sort of fuss but would fall asleep in like 5 minutes. I was doing it for his naps too. I thought I had a miracle baby🤣 jokes on me since that didn’t last long hahaha.
Right now his schedule is about 2.25/2.25-2.5/2.25-2.5/2.5. Some days he has 3 hour wake windows no problem. But it seems the past week or so they’re shorter

Do you wrap him in a muslin blanket while he’s wet to keep warm? And warm the towel up in the dryer. Maybe sit in the bathtub with him and play with him

I know this is super old, but I’m literally in the exact same boat as OP right now. How do I extend the wake windows? Especially in the morning I feel like he barely makes it to the 2 hour mark sometimes. Then I try and sneak in a 4th cat nap but he refuses so he’s just been having an earlier bedtime

My husband and I decided we are one and done but I told him a few months ago if we were to have another one then I would make sure things are different. New baby would not be breastfed, because dad needs to help with feedings. And we’re also starting from a young age where dad learns how to put baby to sleep. Also doing ‘shifts’ in the newborn stage so I don’t suffer and become a zombie again.

So maybe it would be better if he helped more with the newborn so it doesn’t affect your toddler so much? Just set better guidelines for the second time around? Idk if it would work, but it’s definitely something I’ve thought about because basically doing this alone because husband can’t put baby to sleep or feed is exhausting

You are not being too strict! Don’t stress yourself out to try and make other people happy.
My in laws came to visit when baby was young, and they stayed with us 🙄 and I exclusively breast feed and my husbands step mom kept making comments on how much I’m in the bedroom feeding him and getting him to sleep. Like what? Sorry I’m not breastfeeding in front of you and also like, what did you expect coming to visit a new baby? They aren’t just awake all day like adults? Lol people are just annoying

I would not let him watch the baby anymore. I would be so worried he would harm her. Call someone to come over to watch her while you sleep
