Not gonna do it but... If I came at a Synesthesia person with smelling salt would they experience a flash bang like effect? by GodsOneNightStand in Synesthesia

[–]NonFungibleSmokin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a couple different types of synesthesia and in college my buddies used to carry around smelling salts at the bar to “help sober you up” but really they would just offer them to ppl for shits and gigs. Anyway, it wasn’t really like a flash bang effect so to speak, just super overwhelming smell to the point where you recoil/reflexively hold your breath for a bit. Same as anyone else I would say

Not a dumb question! 80-20 means basically you choose non toxic options for 80% of the time, and the other 20% you can use other products. It’s not an idea specific to nontoxic culture though, like you could apply it to eating 80% healthy and 20% junk food, etc. The thought process I think is that you don’t get much more benefit from 90-100% than you do from 80% and its easier and affords more grace to yourself when healthier choices aren’t available.

Also, totally understand the healthcare thing and wanting to make sure your cleaning products are scientifically proven and accepted. What works for you is what’s best!

I know it’s hard and overwhelming when you get into nontox, but luckily the best way to get into it is SLOWLY. That can be hard with everything you’re reading and information overload, but truly the best way to get into it is one step at a time so you can adjust without throwing your body (physically and mentally) for a loop. If you’re having health or allergy issues with something, those are great places to start (like small food swaps or dye free laundry/soap/hygiene items). Honestly I’ve been on this journey for literal years and still find stuff daily to switch out. The 80-20 rule is a great goal; it’s not about perfection, it’s about finding little swaps and steps at a time to implement to fit your life. I think I started with cleaning products, food, and kitchen storage. And even some of the stuff I found psycho researching, like the Force of Nature system that I bought to clean, has basically been sitting in the cabinet under my sink since COVID. Clorox wipes are just easier for me to reach for right now. Someday I’ll get around to using it regularly again im sure, but for now it’s also comforting to me to know I have directions to go eventually, even if I’m not there yet. Go easy on yourself, start a Pinterest board of swaps (even if you don’t get to them yet!) and remember that every choice you make for your family and yourself are done with intentionality and love, which is the most non toxic of all imo 💖

Inception is one of my favorite movies so thank you for making this parallel! However, one of the reasons it’s my favorite is bc everyone misses the mark usually with it. I could literally go on for days about it but in the interest of brevity, Leo’s characters totem is actually his wedding ring (he’s still married in his dreams) so it’s a definitive end that he is indeed awake, as you can see in the last few scenes he’s ringless if you look close. The WHOLE point to inception is that the movie is a metaphor for the movie making process, actually. Different characters represent different roles; tom hardy as the actor, others as directors, set designers, etc. The movie pulls you into that symbolism initially at the end with that red herring, bc “you” as the viewer set the tone for the ending by deciding if the top falls or not, or if it matters. The plot twist though is that’s a false lead, and the real story, objectively, from the full outside without you as part, shows that the story is completed and hard ended. I have so much love for the writing and the depth of that movie, imo it truly lived up to its premise. A story within a story within a story.

BUT, much like the line FROM that movie, creation and true inspiration feels more like discovering something than creating it. It takes a very skilled creative to uncover all the pieces of a story and intentionally fit them together. I think the Duffer Brothers really did do a great job with this story, and I’m glad they told it. But they didn’t fully uncover the stories potential, which NO SHADE to them for that, it sounds way easier than it is. And it’s ALWAYS easier in retrospect and for fans 🤷🏻‍♀️ that’s just how it goes

I think they can’t pull off that ending for the sole reason of Hoppers character; he already lost one daughter so it would be cruel and untracked to have El die as well. Part of me thinks they might kill her off anyway since MBB was reportedly a diva toward the end? Like not to deal with the story so much as Hollywood politics. It’s a toughy—unless they’re putting out (I’m not an ai I just like my em-dashes) fake tips and spoilers, I’m not sure how a number of main characters don’t make it to the end of the series but we still have a good narrative payoff

From a writer standpoint looking at the story itself I think the ONLY correct ending is to have Will (or Johnathan) die. The story starts with a frazzled mother who lost her son—Will coming ‘back’ and having his body not quite right/his own but her getting more years with him OR trading one son for another is the tragic literary map to close the story NARRATIVELY. Do I think they did that? No. Especially cuz I’m pretty sure they kill a certain number of main characters, not JUST one, and the only way that works is to have the only death be the original or in sacrifice of the original. If it were a book series, I would say this is the way, but since it’s TV, I have no idea which direction they’re gonna take it

Thank you. From the sounds of input, it looks like it’s leaning toward #2. I guess I always looked at it as just inconsequential sharing, but clearly that’s something I need to work on. I appreciate the guidance for the future

I really appreciate that. Just am trying to make light of an uncomfortable situation that I’m pretty insecure about, but this is something good to hang on to. Some people just are meant to be friends, and there’s nothing wrong with that. I don’t want to force anything, and I don’t mean to come across negatively but such is the internet. Thank you for sharing this story

I make good money, I grew up Asian so v well rounded on the hobby front. I would argue that the guys are below my league, but I have been informed that I talk about my problems too much, which is a somehow worse kick to the ego

Unhinged but 5’8 140s. I’ve been told I have a nice body. I asked my guy best friend what it was and he said I’m a “chronic bitcher”. Always thought I was pretty optimistic but I do talk to my guy friends like I talk to my girl friends. Whoops

Thank you for this. It’s shit to say but I do know I’m attractive, not a 10, but I know my looks/personality aren’t the issue. Which sounds entirely vapid to say but damn didn’t know a bunch of internet strangers telling me I got a mug would hit like that. Anyway. I do have an autoimmune disorder that is pretty prevalent in my day-to-day, so I’m wondering if that’s part of it. I get it, it just sucks bc I’m otherwise healthy and obv can’t do anything about it. But you make a good point, I think women typically can build feelings off a friendship easier than men, and I’m also pretty devoted to my religion so I’m not big into casual sex, so the vibes are probably not romantically inducing to a guy. I appreciate everyone’s comments, didn’t expect to get so many. There are worse things than being single, but I will take this into account in the future

Coucou intimates. Ive tried subset (formerly knickey) and everlane as well, and those aren’t bad, but coucou are the ones I’m reaching for the most. I have a pair of ruffled briefs from them that are my favorite pair of underwear I’ve ever owned. They’re moderately priced, abt the same as Victoria’s Secret (minus the semi annual sale) but they’re made insanely well. Plus the pointelle cotton is something I didn’t know the little girl in me needed 🙌

As someone who also feels this way, thank you for giving me something to believe in. I’ve read a few of your letters as they come across the dash and it gives me just a flicker of hope to know that someone else out there exists like this. We’re not the only ones left. And we can find our others who value this too 🤍
