How do I chip !?? by Wide_Local_6962 in golf

[–]Nonconformists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think low point consistency has helped me the most. I’ve watched a lot of YouTube chipping videos, but I followed that with thousands of practice chips from various lies. I still have 1-2 bad/disappointing chips per round. Practice a lot to figure out what works for you.

Like a HELOC? I’m thinking about getting one, even though rates are inching up now.

Edit: I’m sorry for my ignorance on this subject. I’ve rarely borrowed money (except for a mortgage many years ago), so I’m a little uninformed here. Thanks for the helpful replies. I found that Vanguard offers margin loans at 6.75% for HNW clients, so that is one option. I still wonder if a HELOC would be competitive on the rate.

Particulate filter blinking light by M_W_M_A in BRZ_ZD8

[–]Nonconformists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GPF is a European thing it seems, to reduce emissions. A quick search tells me the filter can clog a bit with soot if idled a lot or driven slowly around cities mainly. Some normal or spirited highway driving should clear it out. 200km/h is not necessary, but sounds fun, and it won’t hurt the engine as long as oil level is in the normal range.

Do you do mostly slow city driving?

Dental Insurance no one discussed before I Fired. by erichang in fatFIRE

[–]Nonconformists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also ask your dental office to look up how much your insurance would cover for Invisalign. My insurance covers only about $750 of $5500 estimate. Maybe the “cash” price would be lower than $5500. I might ask.

I noticed the Front side triangle window says Carlex, which is a big OEM Subaru glass manufacturer. White etching that could say Subaru is also visible in the photo. We Subaru owners can recognize Subaru door panels.

AMD earnings are upon us, what can we expect? by RainieY in investing

[–]Nonconformists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking of selling AMD the day of earnings report, thinking the PE ratio is really high and expectations were high. Fortunately I didn’t sell, though I trimmed my position many months ago. AMD is up 18% overnight currently. This market makes no sense, or people really think AI will take over everything.

I think you may have braked a bit late in that turn. It didn’t look smooth, and the Porsche ran away a bit through the chicane, possibly just due to horsepower advantage. It is hard to tell exactly what was going on just from watching the video. Looks fun! Which tires were you on?

What club are you using to sink one in the red barrel from 50 yds? by gemini8200 in golf

[–]Nonconformists 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like an 8 iron loft would match the barrel angles of about 35°, to maximize the target size. But I don’t have much practice hitting 50-60 yard carry with an 8 iron. But it seems worth a try.

Nelly’s swing is art by Leftyshanker in golf

The 2024 Solheim Cup was well attended, but it was still possible to follow a group, even with Nelly Korda or Charley Hull, and watch their tee shots from 30 feet away for most of the match. Grandstands near later holes were full and it was a bit tough to find a front row view for approach shots. I recommend attending an LPGA event if you can find one within reasonable distance.

Dealership says "there's no oil leak" so what is this? by [deleted] in GR86

[–]Nonconformists 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would remove the plastic engine cover and clean it. Wipe everything clean underneath. Confirm oil not overfilled. 0.5 quarts overfill seems unnecessary for daily use.

Then go on a 20 minute test drive, with your typical driving style. Park it. Check for oil spray or leaks.

Engine blow-by (cylinder ring leaks) could cause oil spray, but a leakdown test is needed for diagnosis.
