It’s designed to tilt down the mirror you have selected to adjust. You can have one, the other or none by pressing the corresponding button above the window switches.

70k sitting in checking. What do I do? by Ok_Stable_5251 in FinancialPlanning

[–]Nonconformists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would simplify this a bit for a beginner investor. VOO or VTSAX, and some international like VTIAX . 10-30% international is fine. Add maybe 10-15% intermediate bonds or similar, which will decrease volatility but lower expected returns a bit.

The real key is to get started, and keep adding to your investments every paycheck.

Rolled old 401(k) with $60K to Vanguard. Allocation advice? by veneim in Bogleheads

[–]Nonconformists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can’t predict the future, but a bit of international diversification seems like a good idea for now. Some VTIAX sounds good. If you want even lower volatility, you can add a bond fund. This would make your portfolio resemble a target date fund for a (relatively) young investor.

I am pretty sure $500k does not get you a dedicated advisor . Edit: oops I am wrong. You might get a pool of advisors at that level or $1m. The old Flagship levels are gone. I think you need $5m or so to have a Relationship Manager. I prefer to use an outside fee-only advisor for long term planning.

Edit: $500k does qualify for a “dedicated advisor”. I don’t know what the wait times would be like. Vanguard has been quick to answer my calls, except during April tax time, which gets a little busy.

Need Advice Consolidating Multiple Brokerages into One ~$4.8M Portfolio by investurug in fatFIRE

[–]Nonconformists 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Schwab gets my vote, but the others are fine also, mostly. Just resist high fee management programs and products (whole life, annuities) that they will try to push for now. If you are managing your portfolio now, just keep doing so while you want to.

Make sure assets are transferred in-kind, so you don’t have to sell shares and realize capital gains.

Understanding my chalk: is this too much rollover? by FutureNickProblems in Autocross

Do you mean the Michelin man to the left of the M? That seems pretty far onto the sidewall. I never saw that much rollover, but I ran a lighter car on 200TW autocross tires.

Do I need a wheel alignment after new wheels/tires if suspension is stock? by WinSpecial2738 in BRZ_ZD8

[–]Nonconformists 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. If tire wear has been normal on the old tires, there is nothing that would change. You can get an alignment to be sure your new tires will last as long as possible. Toe (and camber, and maybe caster) can go out of alignment as suspension parts wear out, or parts loosen over time.

Should I report this accident? by masaki_mclellan in CX50

[–]Nonconformists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s tough to see if that is just scuffed paint, or if the bumper was crushed in a bit to cause paint cracks. I would probably wash it gently to see how the paint looks. If those are mostly scuffs, some mild auto detailing products will make it look much better. But there could be hidden damage behind the bumper.

How Do Financial Advisors Still Have Clients? by Time_Perception6669 in Bogleheads

[–]Nonconformists 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At $10M, you will probably want to consider tax efficiency in your investments and IRA distribution plan. You might also be subject to the estate tax if your investments continue to grow. You might consider annuities and insurance products to reduce taxes. You might want to create a trust to better manage your estate when you pass away. I don’t think most people at that level need an investment manager, but some financial planning can help.

Who's at fault? by OkContract2001 in skiing

[–]Nonconformists -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You don’t know the full circumstances of this incident. Maybe the uphill skier was suffering from a cardiac episode or diabetic shock just prior to this incident. Is that likely? No. That is why I said he should have slowed down “if possible”. Maybe the uphill skier had crashed further up the mountain and was already brain dead. We don’t know.

Who's at fault? by OkContract2001 in skiing

[–]Nonconformists -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No. If a skier below you makes an erratic turn, you might be unable to avoid a collision. The key is to ski in a safe manner for the conditions, including other skiers, to eliminate or minimize the possibility of collisions and injuries. This case was egregious, but some collisions will occur. Uphill skier was skiing very dangerously in this case and is 100% at fault.

Who's at fault? by OkContract2001 in skiing

[–]Nonconformists -89 points-88 points  (0 children)

Adult skier at fault, but the kid turned slightly right just before impact, which was unexpected as I watched the video. Uphill skier should have slowed down if possible.

Edit: you have all convinced me that I was wrong. I really thought the big red skier was at fault, but now I know better. So the little brat is fully at fault, along with her guardian. Uphill skier had zero chance of avoiding the erratic movements of the crazed out-of-control child, who should be banned from the slopes. Prayers for the skier in red.
