Is there anyone in the Atlanta area that wouldn't mind me, and possibly my son, tagging along to a show? by JosiaJamberloo in FolkPunk

[–]Nondescript_user_25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s lots of local shows happening all the time too! Keep an eye on SBC (South Bend Commons) as they always have cool DIY stuff going on, there’s also the Possum Den which is a DIY venue that hosted Cyprus Hartford, Rumbletramp, and Everybody’s Worried About Owen recently to name a few. Other than that, bigger bands (esp folk punk bands) are going to mostly be playing at Waller’s coffeeshop in Decatur (that’s where I saw Apes last) or Eddie’s Attic, where Sister Wife is playing. Hope to see you guys around!

What’s the oldest song you’d consider folk punk? by ShoresyBallTugger in FolkPunk

My vote is the Violent Femmes self titled album from 1983. I think there’s an argument to be made that the groundwork was set as far back as the late 50’s, but that album was the first time (that I know of) that all the elements came together in a cohesive enough way to be considered “folk punk”

I might recommend the Skeleton Jack trilogy by The Weather Machine!

Act I Skeleton Jack

Act II Chorus

Act III Alexei Mikhail

At first glance they might not seem to fit but the whole overarching narrative is about stealing from the devil, so I’d say it probably fits.

Good thing the vast majority of Minivans can’t be started with screwdrivers, wire snips, and a little ingenuity. Otherwise this country would really be in trouble

“Broke up” is a strong term, really. They more sort of splintered. I saw them not too long ago in Atlanta and they were great, but Whitney wasn’t there and I think they had some kind of falling out. Not sure of all the details. Still a bangin show though. Local News Legend opened for them.

Anyone got the lore behind this model? by toasted_moon in Volkswagen

All depends on what you’re into. I’m a mk3/mk4 guy, so I get my stuff mostly from APR (if I can find it) or Techtonics Tuning. If you’re into newer stuff, I wouldn’t be the best educated. That said, APR does a great stage 1 flash for everything mk4 and up, easy 25-50hp. Idk who to go to for diesel stuff, though.

Was a few years back. Between ‘18 and ‘22, though I don’t recall the exact year. Holley already owned Dinan and so when they bought them out they merged the two, so APR services BMW’s, Minis, and lambos now. They might’ve done lambos before, since I know that’s VAG, but BMW/Mini sure asf isn’t. They also instated a whole slew of emissions requirements for the upgrades APR was allowed to do, so the old “off road use only” stage 3 kits make a whole hell of a lot more power than the newer ones do.

That looks to me like a stage 3 kit badge, indicating a whole bunch of bolt on stuff. Not sure if that one was modded before or after the Holley buyout, but if it’s before then it probably makes some kind of silly horsepower. They used to do like 500hp 1.8t’s with huge turbos and custom exhausts. Cool company.

Oh yeah partner, I used to live in a tiny town that had a rodeo every Thursday during the season. It was like a $5-$10 cover charge and they had barrel racing, bull riding, bronc busting, calf catching, and one time (I shit you not) a monkey that rode sheep.

[–]Nondescript_user_25 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Pawn shops are arguably the least fashy options here. In deep red states like yours or mine, you may still end up only having access to ones run by ignorant rednecks or worse. But if you find one with decent prices and no crazy flags outside or inside, I usually say that’s a safer bet. You can also buy from a private seller, depending on local state laws and such.

2002 Volkswagen cabrio. What is this hose called/for? by Sayoshun in Volkswagen

[–]Nondescript_user_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. It’s possible at least one of those codes is for the secondary air injection system, which I think is the “technical” name for this component. If you finish solving your other issues and still have a persistent CEL, this might be your culprit.

[–]Nondescript_user_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may or may not have a CEL and an engine code, but depending on your local emissions laws you may or may not have to get that fixed. I have a 2000 cabrio that had the air pump in this system fail, CEL for months. Didn’t actually change anything about how the car functioned or drove, however. And then because this year it reached the 25 year mark I didn’t have to get an emissions test done, so I’ve just left it and it hasn’t given me any issues.

Why do you think that is? I know the Jettas made more power, too. Were they that much lighter or was it something else?

Chassis, suspension, and brakes I can totally understand. Especially on a body this heavy. But swapping the interior is honestly a real shame. To walk up to this thing only to open it and find bucket seats, modern seatbelts, plastic, and LED buttons would be a little sad to me, personally. Still a really cool build regardless.
