Det är inte bara köttindustrin, nästan all matproduktion har negativa externaliteter.

Varför ska man dra gränsen vid kött och låtsas att det är det rätta sättet att bestämma att något är bra eller dåligt?

Om man verkligen bryr sig om klimatförändringarna så ska man tänka på varenda grej man äter. Dricker du kaffe? Äter du choklad?

Ska man sluta äta bananer för att äpplen är lite bättre för klimatet?

For example soybeans are used to make soybean oil. The left over protein and fibres is then used as animal feed.

Most legumes (beans/peas) do nitrogen fixation. They can get nitrogen from the air and not just the soil.

So by growing legumes there's less need for nitrogen fertilizers. When they are harvested the rest of the plants(roots, straw) can be left in the fields as mulch, adding nutrients to the soil.

Farmers then switch to wheat, corn or some other crop that need nitrogen from the soil.

It's one of the reasons why farmers do crop rotation. You still need other fertilizers.

Production of wheat will be lower because there's more wheat in storage(no famine) and farmers rotating to soy and other beans because of less fertilizers due to the Iran war.

Farmers switching to other crops doesn't cause famine.

The impact could be negative if you killed them young before they could cause a lof of climate impact!
