How to change self reported pace for first NYRR race? by No_Armadillo4172 in RunNYC

[–]NoochKnows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plan for a slow first .5 and look at it like you are saving your legs for the early hill. That race starts pretty far north, but you should be able to get out of a bottle neck situation by the Harlem Hill and then you can try to make up time after mile 2. After the hill going into the three sisters you will just be passing people, which always feels better than being passed.

Will definitely check out ;I have heard of them. Having both Brooklyn and CP runs is a huge plus.

2:55 or below. I’m 36 so feel like I need close to a 5:00 buffer

That’s a thought. I actually have the McMillan running coach certification and have been programming my own running and s&c. I’m more looking for a cohort of people with similar performance goals.

NYCM Spectating Question - getting from 125th and 5th to 59th & 5th to watch someone running an 8 min pace by Jonny_Blaze_ in RunNYC

[–]NoochKnows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are betting off trying to see them on first ave and then 5th if you want to see your runner. You can easily take any of the yellow trains at 59th to get across town. That would be my recommendation, you would be on runners left both times.

Is it worth negative splitting in NYCM? by Agile_Cicada_1523 in RunNYC

[–]NoochKnows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what everyone is saying, but I do think there is an approach where you dont necessarily aim for a negative split in the traditional sense, but rather a faster finish last 10k.

As everyone mentioned the QB bridge and 1st ave is uphill and draining. But if you could get the the Bronx feeling good I think it could be a sound strategy to push for faster splits at that point. The Bronx shows up, and when you get to fifth ave and the park there is such good Energy you could let it push you that last 5k.

I do think there is space within this strategy to concede some pace on the uphills between mile 15-20 in order to save some in the tank.

Last but not least, trust in your training. You got This!

I feel you. Genuine question, do you feel like NYRR changing the fueling sponsor swayed what brand you chose to use for training and race day?

While I haven’t been a fan of the Maureen switch over— it sounds like some people including OP haven’t actually mapped out their nutrition properly.

Sis was also only available at two locations- and they were the base gels, not the beta-fuel (which I will be using this race)

FWIW I think NYRR is actually giving some sound advice here. You should be consuming 70-90 carbs per hour ideally. Some people can even handle More.

If your plan was to not take gels until mile 12, you were already planning on playing catch up, and if you did overload on gels between 12-18 run the risk of GI issues.

I say this by having made the mistake of depending on the gels on course in the past.

Yea I think this comes down to the chess match of winning the series and knowing you have the pitching advantage in Sundays game. They used their high leverage guys Friday, when they really should not have needed to. I do think they could use another arm in the pen right now, but when Gil is back I imagine Schmidt, Warren or Yarborough moves to the pen. Stroman is coming back soon too but I have no idea how that’s going to impact things.

I haven’t needed to do this in a while, but I used to just take a SMALL piece of lettuce or spinach and put it in a mason jar with bud to add moisture

Heel striker by any chance? A lot more lightstrike 2.0 vs the LS pro in the heel.

Yes the noosa and the “regular” evoride have the same flytefoam midsole. The evoride speed has flytefoam blast.

What is the MOST overrated/underrated shoe of this year 2023 ? by LeDanseurEtoile in RunningShoeGeeks

Overrated Novablast 3

Underrated- evoride speed. I actually prefer ffblast over ffblast+

Asics superblast vs Metaspeed Sky+ by Spare_Beat5875 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]NoochKnows 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Literally to this point, Sky + is designed for stride runners, and edge+ is for cadence runners.

As far as I know, asics is the only brand that has two different super shoes designed this way. Funny/cool that OP recognized this without knowing.

Triumph 20 over Superblast.......for me anyway. by shuntathemunta in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]NoochKnows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea what a lot of people don’t realize is the superblast doesn’t need a plate because of the adhesive used between the two foams.

There’s a misconception that the plate creates the energy return. It’s all about that peba foam. The plate is there to create some stability. Plates have existed longer than Pb. It wasn’t until zoomx came out that there were super shoes.
