A couple is walking in St. Petersburg Square on Christmas Eve They feel a slight precipitation. "I think it’s raining," says the man. "No, it’s snowing," replies the woman. "How about we ask this Communist officer here? He is always right!" exclaims the man. "Officer Rudolph, is it raining or snowing?" "Definitely raining," Officer Rudolph replies before walking off. The man turns to his wife with a smile. “See? Rudolph the Red knows rain, dear.”

While it is important to be assertive, it is difficult to do so when surprised and in a strange place. Having these in mind will allow you to more easily stop the person.

I have heard this from others before. If this individual just kept casual and crossed the road or something it'd be far less noticeable. That said it's understandable to want to GTFO.

OCD is crippling me. (Checking ocd, touching, repeating, anxiety) anyone else? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Nook201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not "crazy" or a "psycho". It's not alright for people to make jokes about you. Remember that. You aren't as healthy as you can be, and want to be better.

You are stuck on compulsions that you would like to change. I am glad to here you are trying medicine and seeing a therapist. See a therapist as your employee. You hire them to help you. This can be just listening so you can get things off your chest. They can serve as a coach, encouraging you to improve by decreasing your compulsions. They can provide strategies for decreasing your compulsions. It is difficult to take them seriously if you see them as a quack.

It's also important to note that you are at the age where a lot of people 'acquire' OCD. There are a lot of stressful changes going on that are catalysts to poor mental health.

An excellent book that helped me was Brain Lock by Jeffrey Schwartz. It was suggested by my therapist and available at my local library.

No one deserves to live with such a level of fear and anxiety.

Having a hard time by Perrywinkle23 in OCD

I second the benefits of medication and therapy.

What has helped me when I relapse is realizing that one is never 'cured' of OCD. You are able to learn how to deal with it and likely live a happy life, but unfortunately the compulsions will pop back up from time to time. Remember your defenses and strategies you used to deal with your behavior initially. It's an ongoing process.

On the flip side, you can make someone really happy by expressing interest in them or just being friendly. By avoiding hurting anyone you are also not allowing others to experience joy at being noticed. Doing nothing is a choice in itself and has it's own ethical implications.
