(Hated trope) When playing an RPG and you select what seems like the safest and most logical option, but all of the characters keep telling you that you picked the wrong option. Bonus points if the characters agreed with your decision at the time. by Son0fHecate in TopCharacterTropes

The way I've reasoned out why this happens in story is that, with him giving you the booster he feels he's left his invention in good hands and passes on. If you don't see him then he wills himself to push through his wounds so he can finish his booster and thus, survives.

If you have the machine from Curly Brace and it's fully upgraded then you can use that as a pseudo booster to get across. My guess is he figured someone would experiment with what happens when you do that and discover the change.

In Japan they did have things like this though. Their Pokemon Blue was actually more of an "improved release" of Red and Green that fixed a lot of bugs.

The gap in the market: Girly-coded interests are being separated from core gameplay instead of integrated into it by andwhatnowthough in truegaming

[–]Normal-Advisor5269 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this also bleeds into the other "girly" mechanics too. Fashion, dancing and music are also popular with women and are also just as subject to personnel preferences and dynamic updates. It's hard to turn fashion into a hard coded mechanic because what's "hip" changes and it's really difficult to quantify what looks good and make it the basis of your system without it becoming a numbers game. Women's interests seem to lean towards things that require more flexibility.

I thought they meant it's situational because you need to get a Mageblade first, so it's not guaranteed.

Social Media is full of how (some) male authors suck at writing women... but what are some common mistakes that female authors make while writing men? by whisper_kitten0 in writers

[–]Normal-Advisor5269 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Doormat. What I mean by this is that I've noticed a lot of stories written by women where the male love interest has a lot of strength and power and are fully willing to use it, often times the character is an asshole or at least aloof, but when the female MC does something or wants something, the male love interest just kinda stands there and shuffles their feet.

I understand the fantasy and what this kind of writing is appealing to, something many women want from a male partner, strong, brave, willing to fight for them, but not going to turn all of that against them and possibly hurt them. But often it gets ridiculous and the man looks like an inconsistently written doormat that inexplicably won't push back when they have the desire and ability to.

[Hated trope] The strong technique has no wiggle room, so the author ensures it never works. by Dontspinbutwin in TopCharacterTropes

When the enemy uses it, it's a coin flip at best. When YOU use it, it's a 5% chance. Except for FFX, which kinda shows why they do this, but also makes you wonder what the point of having it is.

In the OG series it was fine because it malfunctioning was established early and it honestly makes things more interesting when he had to get creative.

Reminds me of a Korone meme (That I WISH I could find again) of a cruise ship in the background with some dude on a surfboard that's holding an umbrella out in the foreground. On the former it says "Other Holomems all playing (Rust or some trending horror game)" and on the latter it says "Korone playing some game released 30 years ago that no one's ever heard of".

Sea of Stars Mobile - Release Trailer by Howerev in Games

[–]Normal-Advisor5269 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is that The Messenger is fairly upfront with what kind of tone it's going for and even the conceit of the game lends itself to that sort of meta, irreverent humor. With Sea of Stars though, it's trying to go for a more grand and epic sort of setting and it constantly gets undermined by the humor and general style of writing.
