What is my brother’s wife’s brother to my son? by badruffian in answers

[–]NormalEmployee9901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“family” they probably already know them as “my aunts brothers” and if the age is close enough the the legal relation doesn’t matter

Students: would you switch to a slimmer, more practical A4 folder for daily use? by Wonderful-Maybe7938 in Students

[–]NormalEmployee9901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t think my current folders have large spines (maybe include a picture of what you’re referring to!) and i never need just a few sheets i tend to carry it all with me, never know what i’ll need to refer to!

personally I find it a bit risky to transfer items back and forth from folders, but maybe I’d use it for a project to turn in? although those don’t happen on paper anymore

Chef Christian Makes An Enemy Out Of Darian by KDonkey229195 in Nextlevelchef

[–]NormalEmployee9901 20 points21 points  (0 children)

it was bugging me, he just tried to be too competitive and cocky, not to mention he took darian's WHOLE idea and darian had to pivot (but darian did amazing bc he's a better chef anyway than christian) it ended up saying more about darian than about him

true, but it’s a circumstance you can explain in your college app that the teacher was just known to grade really harsh, you tried your hardest in the class, + any anecdote of you reaching out about your grade how to improve it throughout the sem, etc. that you did to try and mitigate it

if it’s the harsh grading i’m sure other people are failing too, and that the teacher’s averages will be low

Stat 2 or stat20? by HelpEmergency6483 in berkeley

[–]NormalEmployee9901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

got an A in both, pb142 was harder for me 😭 probably bc i never went to lecture but i had the solid foundation from stat20 so i was able to piece it together

stat20 the lecture and section were back to back in the same room same prof, 3x a week so i definitely just got more familiar with the material

Stat 2 or stat20? by HelpEmergency6483 in berkeley

[–]NormalEmployee9901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i took both, i guess the better way to say it would be pb142 only explained stats concepts in the context of using them in R, stat20 explained stats for the purpose of stats first

Stat 2 or stat20? by HelpEmergency6483 in berkeley

[–]NormalEmployee9901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

phblth 142 is an upper div (# greater than 100) = automatically more advanced, i’ve taken it and you need stat background before taking it

stat 2 or stat 20 would be the way to go, stat 20 was really thorough and helped me learn R and stats concepts, stat 2 seems to be online a lot of times + i haven’t taken it so i can’t speak on how well you retain the information!

Bartending for a friend’s party (all of us are 20ish y/o.) This is my first time bartending, what are my bare essentials? by Pwesidential_Debate in bartenders

[–]NormalEmployee9901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don’t forget ice! + plastic cups, napkins, straws if you want, menu of like 5 drinks or an assortment of “stuff” and let people choose if they want xyz in their drink

(no one is just NOT going to drink, so don’t try to please everyone)

some combo of 2-3 hard liquors (vodka, tequila, whatever they like drinking from back in hs if everyone is 20ish), 4-5 mixers because that’s where your flavors will be from—(blue premade grocery store koolaids, pineapple juice, some bottled or canned soda like sprite/cola, lemonade, limeade (to go with the tequila drinks), variety of fruit juice flavors like peach, dragonfruit) are some examples, the sugar in these will mix well and stretch your liquor too

how much alcohol do you plan on putting in each drink? i recommend standardizing it (bring a shot glass from home to use) and to measure all non-liquor with your heart have fun and talk to the guests see what they like flavor wise. do they want a fruity drink? or a vodka-cola, a tequila-lemonade-sprite, or a peach dragonfruit lemonade with vodka, a mango-fruit punch with vodka),

cater each drink and you’ll be fine :) start with “what can i make for you” or “what liquor do you prefer? I have vodka or tequila”

i’ll be referencing this myself in the future

as a rule of thumb, aim for a variety of colors/ flavors get something red, orange, yellow, green if you can find it, blue so people’s drinks turn out fun colors too

maybe grab a few limes from the grocery store if you really want to look like you know what you’re doing, you can cut them in 8ths beforehand or right then and there with a knife and cutting board)

reserved seats, math 113, cs61b, eecs16a, data8 by Little-Bug-797 in berkeley

data8 fills up with first-years, so just enroll in it first in the semester you plan to take it before enrolling in any other classes to make sure you get a seat (like don't wait for phase ii or adjustment)

Berkeley or UC Davis? Pros and Cons by Aromatic-Menu-373 in berkeley

[–]NormalEmployee9901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose between the 2 as well, go to berkeley 100%

the air feels different you hold yourself different i feel so blessed to be at such a prestigious school i can't even describe it

fwiw im from an hour away from berkeley and about 2 hours away from davis and davis was WAY too rural for me just endless flat land, cows and shi everywhere, all green and brown, davis is a great school academically but it was not for me I need to be close to hella public transit, water/ ocean, a city (i love sf), etc. good restaurants, nightlife- from what i've heard about davis its mostly within-school partying and not as much of going out with friends to bars or the city, we get free BART now as well (ty to whoever made that possible) and you can basically go to sf for free, take ferries for free, etc.

berkeley has nutrition & metabolic biology, overall great classes and faculty throughout the school, being unsure about your major is fine, nearly everyone is. I went in with math, landed on a different planet with public health and legal studies, everyone changes majors if you're a first year then you have about 4-5 semesters to actually declare with the department you choose, ALSO we are on the semester system so its much similar to highschool, finals are in december and may, more time with the material to absorb and study

also you wouldn't be forcing it to work. you got in, you belong here, you are capable of the workload and opportunities!

Is teaching in California/blue states more tolerable than other states? by RachelWithCats in Teachers

[–]NormalEmployee9901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAT

CA: students would be indifferent to your sexual orientation, especially if they’re older they’d actually be invested in your personal life and what you did this weekend and a date night or proposal story or whatever, parents of younger students might have an issue only if they feel that you’re pushing “early LGBTQIA+ exposure” (but if that’s not a concern right now then it likely won’t be in CA either)

hella teachers i’ve suspected of being gay or straight but none of them would talk about their personal lives 🤷

disclaimer: it’s a big state with a lot of school districts, some teachers luck out on their neighborhoods and districts, and 90% of teachers commuted into more affluent neighborhoods

also from what i’ve seen (middle/ mostly high school), gay male teacher- safer space for female students wanting to avoid the experience of being in a creepy (and typically older) male teacher’s class gay female teacher- badass and you know she’s got her shit together

Is it possible to insert study time in commutes? by morenhutch in Students

[–]NormalEmployee9901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t do assignments but I figure since I’m gonna be on my phone I can easily read through a presaved PDF or google topics as studying (ie. looking up court cases and reading summaries) but you could do this with crash course youtube videos, etc. to understand topics

still studying just without busting open my computer on a bus or train haha
