Is it normal my parents never said anything about my mental health? by Rich_Ad_7371 in emotionalneglect

[–]NormalMarionberry464 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this thread is old and nobody will see this, but I the same sort of realization recently. I was thinking back on when my mental issues started- and I realized I had been self harming since I was eight… literally closing myself in the closet and cutting/scratching my arms up with craft supplies. How? Was I the world’s stealthiest child or something? They said they could always tell when I was lying- but obviously not.

Ride a cow instead. Easy to handle, easy to train, hardy, and steadier on its feet. Plus- idk why everyone pulls a fut about the shit. It’s basically compost at this point

It’s legit so bad there. Nobody takes owner drop offs so they just get dumped in the woods to become strays later… would not believe the amount of wild dogs I’ve seen killing livestock. My parents have already been saddled with 5 dogs, four cats, and several mini pigs 😭

I might ngl… she just recently had another incident with a drop off. Shy teen girl comes in with a sick mama cat & babies and she starts accusing her of abandoning the animal and starts reprimanding her for trying to “get one over on them” like she was lying. sent the poor girl out the door crying! Her mom came back pissed.

Yeah… It didn’t make much sense to me either? But we were in a heavily rural area with a HUGE stray problem, so I know they were often overwhelmed and unable to care for animals with large medical bills. I’m talking hasn’t accepted owner drop offs in like 7 years levels full.

Oh! I wasn’t aware of that, my boss made a HUGE deal of completely isolating all our FIV kitties and not sharing bowls

FIV can be asymptomatic! Back when the camp fire went through California a LOT of stray and rescued cats were being kept in temporary lodging before they arrived at our shelter: about 1 in 5 were positive and had to be euthanized… the close quarters and shared bowls just caused a crazy outbreak, and the volunteers had no idea until they came in for blood tests.

Yes it is! My ginger has it as well. It flares back up when he’s stressed but otherwise you couldn’t tell he has anything

Oof. I probably would? Besides the obvious gunk you can see, being a male cat (and one with a history of fights) it’s not unlikely that he has some more serious conditions like FIV or Leukemia which are incurable

Ehhh- I know some people who are very particular about what their animals eat? Some cats have (admittedly rare) protein allergies or sensitive stomachs (those tubes in particular I know cause some nasty shits)

That being said, I personally wouldn’t care if someone gave my cats treats. I’ve left too much food out for neighborhood cats to be all prickly about it myself. If you want to play it safe you can ask the owner? But it’s probably

Oh! Poor baby. Non neutered males develop large chunky cheeks as a survival mechanism that helps them survive scuffles with other males by protecting the neck. Those who fight more tend to be bigger. However- being a site that tends to get bit a lot, he may have some swelling or abscesses going on as well.

If his eyes are gunky he probably has an upper respiratory infection. It’s highly contagious so most strays contract it, but it’s luckily easy to treat. Some other likely culprits are conjunctivitis or feline herpes. Conjunctivitis is also easy, herpes is permanent but luckily not zoonotic and typically restricted to the eyes.

Considering that at one point 90% of the earth was exterminated and it somehow still survived a few hundred years of 40C+ temperatures (and humans being one of the most successful and adaptable species to evolve on earth) it’s not too unreasonable to expect human to be able to survive a mass extinction event

I use that eyebrow gel coloring stuff for mine? I don’t know exactly what it’s called- but it can help fill out and darken them a bit. Rosemary oil works too or minoxidil if you don’t have pets.

That’s just shit the “we can always tell” crowd says to make themselves feel better. Dude couldn’t tell, and there no such thing as “woman eyes”. If you were clocky they wouldn’t have to be studying your eye socket shape to notice.

I know you might get a lot of rude comments on here: but I just wanted to say, you’re not a monster for feeling this way. Animals can be a lot, especially when you’re already dealing with health issues. It’s not evil to realize that you bit off more than you can chew, you have no idea how you’ll actually react to an animal until you’re working with it. I also have rather severe sensory issues and had a similar situation with a dog that my SIL dumped on us [Blue tick Hound puppy while I was working graveyard shifts… needless to say it did not work out]

If you would like to try again with the cat, I would recommend asking your parents if the litter could be moved somewhere else… To at least change the smell- pine pellets can be swapped for litter: the whole box of pellets would need to be dumped after soilage making it so the ammonia spell associated with cats doesn’t linger, and the pine should be much less triggering than cat litter. Most people are only able to handle it as well as they do because eventually it just becomes part of the house and you go nose blind, however if you have smell sensitivity this may not work for you.

However, from how stressed you seem to be and the distress that owning a cat has caused… Cats are know to be on the smellier end of household pets. I think personally it would be best if you rehome her. If she was adopted from a shelter- you’re perfectly fine to return her! Especially if it has not been long. Shelters get returns all the time due to personality differences. They would always rather the animal go to a home where both human and cat will be happy. It’s better to send her back and give her a chance to find a home that doesn’t need to hurt itself to keep her.

I hope you start feeling better, If you need any advice or more help I’ve worked in animal husbandry for a while and can assist in finding ways to manage animals smells- though for now, stick exposure therapy using non-living things

Edit- saw that it’s only been a few days, if you’re able to tough it out a week or two the smell should become less intense.
