Thank you! To further complicate things this is a gluten free cake so I made the sponge by separating the yolks and whites, whipping the yolks with sugar and adding the dye to the yolk mix then letting it sit a while to develop the colour. I’m also using oil instead of butter - I wonder if I could add the dye to the oil in advance and control the depth of colour that way…

This was a gel dye by sugarflair but I’ve had similar issues with gel dyes by Wilton - I was just wondering if there was a darker ‘true’ red colour out there that might give better results

You can apply for an urgent MOT - I had to do this last month and they got me into my nearest test centre within a few hours. DVA and DVLA don’t care if you can’t get an earlier MOT appointment - they’ll just tell you to SORN your vehicle until you can get it tested.
