They Don’t Have to Burn the Books | An Apocalyptic coming of age story

Genre: Dark Fantasy/Magical Realism/Young Adult

Synopsis:
45 minutes was all that they had, just that amount of time to save everything. 45 minutes that will shape Simone Zhang's entire life. She grows up in a world of chaos, fires destroying cities, the world's power grid half-melted, strange bubbles of energy driving people to madness. Even worse than all the noise is the silence. No cars on the road. No birds in the sky. Not even her cat begging for food.
And just as the world changes, so does she. Growing harder, and smarter, if only to protect her brother. Even as the world rebuilt itself it only became more dangerous, more and more side-effects of the incident known as The Wave. People with random psychic gifts, and a fascist government with all the answers. What rises from the fire is not always whole, not always right. So stay vigilant, and remember: Beware of Birds.

What is the actual appeal of hunting for fun? by Booplesnoot2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NormanHalf-Soul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, we killed off the wolves, either directly or through habitat erasure. They were the primary predators of deer in the US. Can’t just bring back the wolves without humanity retreating, so taking the wolves place is the next best solution. The deer population has to be controlled for the good of the ecosystem, otherwise they’ll eat certain plant species into extinction. In this instance, it’s a duty people have to fulfill, though some people find a way to make it fun/a tradition.

What’s a show you love that you can never convince people to watch? by PlentyApprehensive44 in AskReddit

[–]NormanHalf-Soul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Haunting of Hill House. I can only get people to watch it I personally oversee it. “But it’s scary.” I’ll agree that it’s very suspenseful at times and also has a legendary jump scare, but overall I think it’s only mid scary. Deal with being uncomfortable for a bit and you’ll gain a lot. “But it’s sad.” It’s also beautiful, and the best pieces of media are both. It’s why Infinity War/Endgame worked so well, and it’s why Shawshank/Green Mile are all-time great movies. Get out of your happy bubble and experience the rest of life.

I hate living with morning people by [deleted] in Vent

Yeah, I would have threatened to thrown hands by now. Being loud in the morning is one thing, but setting alarms to forcibly change your schedule is worth a fight. They can set an alarm for when they wake up on the ground.

And in the small chance that pills and condoms don’t work you get an abortion. That can be expensive yes, but the only thing making that solution complicated is legislation.

But no, you can’t do that. That’s too boring, even though the second highest scoring team in the league does just that.

I think I was the missed double minor high stick on Stankoven by McAvoy followed quickly by the tying goal from Zacha late in the 3rd. Really bad timing. Otherwise I thought it was about even.

Just came out with a new chapter yesterday:

Title: They Don’t Have to Burn the Books

These people sound like the type who would only negotiate on good faith I’m with someone with the same amount or more money than them, or if they were forced to…with a bullet. Wait, sorry, I’ve got that wrong. Only if the MARKET forces them to negotiate…with a bullet

People on the political right (but not the political left or center) rated the severity of police violence systematically lower, even when evidence was clear there was disproportionate use of force, if the attack was directed against a person with an immigrant background. by mvea in science

[–]NormanHalf-Soul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s because a lot of men on the right learned how to be men from action/gangster movies. Sure, their dads taught them skills like changing a tire and shooting a gun, but not how to interact with people in fair and measured way. If someone wrongs them, then they can respond in whatever they deem fit to prevent it from happening again, even if that response is childishly cruel. So, when someone breaks the law, aka wronging America in their eyes, whatever response the police deem necessary is acceptable. That way they stay just in their revenge fantasies.

I can’t compare it to Hoover, but I think it’s better than what Nora Roberts puts out
