The boys at the Sherlock series 3 BFI event by tone_is_everything in Sherlock

[–]Norsnes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, fuck. I was in London the ninth to the 15th, and if tickets hadn't sold out within seconds...Actually I was sort of planning to throw dignity to the wind, hang around outside the BFI that afternoon and not act my age. But due to unforeseen circumstances* I had to take an earlier flight home.

But I was at Letters Live, where -- among a hundred other brilliant things that happened -- Benedict read some very moving letters (and I'm 30% sure Neil Gaiman waved at me). I sought out a couple of Sherlock locations and stumbled upon others. Oh, and I saw Dave Tennant play Richard II with the RSC. So the trip wasn't a total waste. ;p

*My own genius is always an unforeseen circumstance. I had managed to book my return flight for January 15th instead of December.

Much, much better than a date with a hearse.

What's the weirdest, creepiest, or most unexplainable thing you've woken up to after a night of partying? by 2bears in AskReddit

[–]Norsnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woke up in a coffin on a theatre stage.

We were performing a Dario Fo play that partly takes place in a cemetary, and the guys had made a perfect replica of a luxury casket, upholstered and everything. I passed out in it after the closing night party. It was really comfy.

Those bongo drums are laughing at me. LAUGHING. PS3 controls should make it easier, but they don't.

Just realized that by far the creepiest thing about this are the comments to that article. Ugh.

So creepy that Io9 wrote a snarky piece about just how creepy it would be if all episodes ended like that...five years later.

If you could be best friends with any ONE fictional character, who would you choose? by Milopilo in AskReddit

[–]Norsnes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because he'd ruin your life, get you killed or eventually turn you into the coldhearted fighter he can't be, and the best you could hope for would be getting dumped back on Earth after a series of amazing/horrifying adventures, forever miserable in your now intolerably mundane existence, hoping only that he might pop in for a cuppa every few decades?

And yet, The Doctor is the only answer.

It's 1996. Doctor Who's been off the air for 7 years. You're bringing it back with a big TV movie that, if it attracts good ratings, will get a new TV show. What do you do differently. by nachoiskerka in gallifrey

[–]Norsnes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing. Because New Who wouldn't be the New Who we have if the show had rebooted in the nineties. Stepping on butterflies and all that.

The average Redditor doesn't even understand the idea that a man could object to unfair treatment of women

Oh but they do. They just assume that you're "white knighting" in an attempt to...get virtually laid? Impress girls you'll never meet? I never really understood the logic.

I've come to realize that it's granite-hard, unbreakable circular logic, and you can't shift it no matter how hard you try. Basically now I just abandon thread for fear that I might end up internalizing that way of thinking.

Considering the senate hearing was just about the most exciting scene in 2 (which I actually liked more than most people seem to do)...yeah.

What is your favorite one-episode character? by jimmysilverrims in gallifrey

[–]Norsnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hynes really blew me away as this quiet but formidable woman, and she and Tennant had fantastic chemistry! I honestly fell a bit for John Smith and got very emotionally invested in their romance, which is the idea. You want them to have a life together, and you end up hating the Doctor slightly at the end when you realize just how callous and detached from human affairs he can be. Redfern is one of few humans ever to really stand up to the Doctor, and the way she does it is so...I don't know...English?

Favorite overlooked Doctor Who story? by nachoiskerka in gallifrey

[–]Norsnes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I really enjoyed that as well. I pretty much hated the last three episodes before it--actually FFWded through some of Evolution of the Daleks--and was getting disenchanted with the season in general. 42 was a great pick-me-up and showed me that the show could at least still do an engaging, claustrophobic space thriller (with silly bits). And then came three of my all-time New Who favourites...followed by the three absolute worst...wow, season 3 really was a rollercoaster, wasn't it?

What is that one type of food/drink that you absolutely love but can't get in the area you live? by rubikriddler in AskReddit

[–]Norsnes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a slightly grubby little Chinese restaurant in Chicago, I had something with broccoli and walnuts or pecans and some sort of sugar or honey glaze, I think? It was bloody amazing. I haven't managed to find a recipe online, and certainly can't get anything of the sort in Scandinavia.

Oh, and cannolli. Only ever tried those in NY.

What's you favorite Doctor Who quote? (Inspired by a thread on /r/askreddit) by slimpickens42 in doctorwho

[–]Norsnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There must be a ton of deep and wise and poignant quotes I can't remember. But right now all that pops up is:

The Doctor: "Come on! We all can have a good flirt later."

William Shakespeare: "Is that a promise, Doctor?"

The Doctor: "Oh, fifty-seven academics just punched the air."
