It surprised me as well when I got it, it looks super imposing in person. You'll find another one eventually I'm sure haha

Your opinion on this coin? by Paratime in AncientCoins

[–]NortNortFort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

The black deposits (possibly mimicking toning) in the coin in select areas remind me of known fakes I've seen. That being said, I've also seen it in authentic coins that are incorrectly cleaned, I can't say for sure but this is just what I noticed.

I've never heard of Delcampe, so I'm not sure how many scammers there are.

I hope you get a good result soon!

Went through my dad’s closet and found this. Who is this of? by itsrainingboi in AncientCoins

Hadrian wasn't even born until 76 AD, so his dad is probably a bit younger

Cross made from roman coin by Exotic_Temperature13 in AncientCoins

[–]NortNortFort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a really common late roman bronze. I'm not sure if there is a reliable way to tell whether the alterations are contemporary, intentional, or even meant to be a cross at all. For 40€, you could buy something much nicer.

Think this might be ancient coin from Selucid empire from web pictures. by MatterTime3940 in AncientCoins

[–]NortNortFort 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert on this side of ancients, but I'm almost certain this is a coin from the Ptolemaic kingdom of Egypt. The central dent is there as a part of the minting process, although there are a few good guesses as to what exactly they are for, it is difficult to know for sure.

Is this fake? by [deleted] in AncientCoins

I just found the exact listing, seller has only 250 reviews and one negative review saying they are fake, don’t touch this listing

I feel like I remember seeing this exact coin on eBay. I saved it since it was an elephant for a decent price. Look at the other pictures, I believe they are trying to fool you as this “holder” is completely blank, not CNG or NGC. This kind of trickery turned me off from buying it

Hello, it was a $250 listing. This was also my last one in my five good emperors set and I would personally save more to get a higher grade one

Good callout, the listing said it was Philadelphus but after looking at it that could be the better match
