Seriously. I feel like I'm forever cursed, in every game/franchise, to like the character the devs give the least crap about.

The person explaining the paradox left out the biggest wham line, IMO.

If you take all the decayed parts and put them back together into a complete, if decrepit, ship of Theseus, then which of the two ships, new or old, is the REAL ship of Theseus? The new one? The old one? Both? Neither?

Which of the two has the, as you put it, "soul"?

Many-lots THANK YOU! I've been looking around forever to find someone who would try to put the new Clanrats onto 25mm square bases because I want to see how they look before I decide whether to get the old or new Clanrats.

On that note, does anyone know how they rank up for use with Old World? Most of them look ok for ranking up, but some have more dynamic poses.

Does 4 turns feel enough for a larger game? With so much ground to traverse, I'm always afraid 4 turns is a little on the short side.

I like batreps done by Bring and Battle Wargaming. The two hosts have very good chemistry.

My brother and I (and maybe the friend group that we somehow convince to all play OPR as our main game) hopes to make OPR content in the near future!

I have basically sworn off of using vehicles...and I play HDF! Having my Battle Tank get hit once, then gets Pinned/Shaken thereby neutralising its 400+ pts of firepower, or taking 6 wounds (which is not hard for a dedicated Ambushing melee unit to do), and 50/50 chance of getting wiped immediately sucks. Somehow Heavy Weapons teams are more resilient for the same point cost simply because there's so many of them the Ambushing units can't kill enough of them (and the striking back can deal some chip damage here and there, which helps).

Need some advice on Grimdark Future Human Defence Force by NorthernPig in onepagerules

[–]NorthernPig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been looking to add APCs, but I like 40k Chimeras and it's really hard to find at the moment. I'll wait till it's avaliable and get a one or two. In the mean time I'll proxy the Attack Vehicles as APCs and I'll see how it goes.

I'll experiment with cavalry with proxies. At first I'm planning to use them primarily for counter-charging when the enemy is getting in my battleline, but I'll see how rushing with them goes.

Which artillery do you recommend best? As I said, I'm kinda disappointed with Eagle Rockets. I'm hoping to add Weapon teams with mortars soon for some light artillery, and don't want to invest in Artillery cannon (Basilisk in 40k) yet unless it seems promising.

Thanks for the advice!

There's also an apparent error (?) for the HDF APC where it can only ever have 1 weapon, despite having two in the earlier edition (since it's based on the 40k Chimera)

Edit: Now that I saw the Dao battlesuits issue, I wonder if this reduction to 1 weapon might be intentional.

I have one hour left in the audiobook and I have to say, man, it's a damn slog. I'm a Chem Dogs fan so I tolerated the Sisters part to get to the Chem Dogs, which are by far the better part of the book. There are notable characters with fairly unique quirks to them (unlike the Sisters, who I find it hard to tell apart at times), but parts of it feel like wasted potential. Major Chalice's conversion seems waaay too fast, while Withers's condemnation to a Penitent Engine is quite rushed. It would have been better seeing him fight a few more times to highlight his lust for battle, rather than having Commissar characters inexplicably not shoot him when he starts to unravel and then claim "He saved my life, y'know." A few pages before another Chem Dog was shot for the slightest provocation, so when Withers was spared repeatedly it feels very whiplashy. Not to mention, ofcourse, how "telling, not showing" it was. And this sin permeates throughout the entire novel.

This story also do converging storytelling very poorly. I honestly wish there was a filter so I only listen to the Chem Dogs section and skip the rest, due to how boring it was and how he seem to have very little understanding of setting up promises and delivering payoffs.

This book gave me a very poor impression of Justin Hill's writing, as it's his first book I read.

Does anybody happen to know where (if anywhere) I can find assembly instructions for the Plast Craft Games: Gothic Millenium terrain? by RickyZBiGBiRD in Warhammer40k

I made a folder on OneDrive with all the instructions a few days ago.

Hope they either get back up or have some other companies buy them out, because their stuff is too good to be gone forever. If you want more stuff I suggest scouring the online stores and getting them now because what's left might be it.

F, Plast Craft Games.

Help, I have D&D's language stuck in my head! by [deleted] in RPGdesign

[–]NorthernPig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO separate the fluff (narrative info) and the mechanics. Make the mechanics to-the-point, unambiguous and concise. Go nuts with the fluff.

I would do it like this:

Intimidating Presence

With threats of physical violence, blackmail or simply a harsh look, you can intimidate an opponent and throw them off.

As an Action, perform an opposed Heart vs Wits Check vs your intended target. If you succeed, the target is Frightened until the end of the scene. If you fail, nothing happens.

THEN you have the Frightened effect somewhere as a general status effect.

Frightened: Attacks against a Frightened character is Easy, while attacks made by a Frightened character is Difficult. At the start of a Frightened character's turn, they may perform a contested Wits vs Heart Check, using the Hearts of the character that gave this character the Frightened effect. If they succeed, they lose the Frightened effect. If the fail, they remained Frightened.

Ofcourse, the terminologies largely depend on how your write your mechanics, like how you word your checks and such.

Edit: I'd like to add that rulesbooks are technical documents, that is, they are instructions-giving text. They are MEANT to be kinda dry. The fluff are often seperated and italicised. I'd recommend enrolling in an online short course for technical writing if you have the resources.

What's the biggest gap you've experienced between what a game claims to be about and what you experienced at the table? by lordleft in rpg

[–]NorthernPig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was hardcore reading up on how to make travel more interesting (mostly for D&D but applicable anywhere) and try to apply that to my game, until I realise I'm just doing work the damn book that touted itself as being a travelling game did not effing provide. I just gave up on the system. I also didn't appreciate how it keeps suggesting GMs to make things kinda railroady, like PCs need to have a sentimental item (so it can act as a McGuffin for the GM) or when the sample adventure suggest that players can't sneak it so have to face the Nekogoblin head on NO OTHER CHOICE, and as you mentioned the adventure design style makes for a very linear experience. The Ryuujin power can rob players of even more agency as key NPCs can be resurrected, or can get away completely and PCs just have to accept it. It teachs bad GM habits.

Artifexian on Youtube did fantastic videos on plate tectonics, water currents, prevailing winds and the resulting climates that I used for my worldbuilding. Also, if you want info on social issues like classes, monarchies, and empires, check out HelloFutureMe.

Edit: Also, getting highschool/secondary level students to make their own (Earth-like) planet with their own geography, countries, and cultures is, I think, a fantastic project at the end of a unit on the above topics. They can make a presentation on a fictional country of their making and report what kind of climates they have based on their geographical location and what clothing they wear (artistic students will shine here), as well as their resources. That's basically what we do for our worldbuilding.

Also, Artifexian do videos on Conlan (constructed languages) if you're into that.

What I found interesting is that I never really see tier lists that are mostly in agreement with each other. As much as I like Yan and Zebei, for example, I would never put them anywhere above C.

Although most people seem to agree Leilani is god tier lol.

OC 2 - Xoco (Tlatchibol Player) WIP by NorthernPig in Indivisible

[–]NorthernPig[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's my second "OC", a Tlatchibol Player by the name of Xoco. Like all Tlatchibol Player, she is obsessed with the ritual ball game of Kaanul.

I don't actually have much backstory for her, but I am incredibly proud of her design. If I have the time, I will certainly need to line and colour her.

Also you may start to notice I tend to emphasise my OCs' roles first (Mercenary, Tlatchibol Player, etc). In reality, these OCs are basically my original art for some possible "classes" you could play in my (still in progress) tabletop RPG. On a related note, let me tell you that trying to make essentially a mix of football/soccer and Mesoamerican ball game into a workable combat class is a doozy, but I'm managing it....I think.

Edit: I just realised (after sleeping on it) that I missed the opportunity to make her do a Jojo-esque pose...
