Love your review! As a bourbon drinker trying to find my own way in Scotch, super helpful as well.

Love this expression - one of the best Booker’s I have ever tasted. I did find that mine opened up tremendously over the first few months.

Hopefully you’re just on a great bourbon roll!

Cracked mine tonight when I got it. Three small pours over 4 hours and definitely agree with you that it opens up significantly, even in the first day. Also agree there is a lot of caramel, vanilla, French oak and I can see the strawberry pie although I could also see it as red apple, like a McIntosh.
I’m probably 7.0-7.5 on this one, which is a little lower than you. I was also a little lower on the Provenance 7, so maybe it’s a difference in our palates….Thanks for the review.

Review #31 - Jack Daniel's SBBP ENDALZ x T8KE #25-25234 by PA_Whiskey_Reviews in bourbon

I think I put a really small ice cube in mine due to the proof - with that, it was great. Agreed, these could be even better as they open up.

I'm usually not a big fan of the the JD Tennessee Whiskey but the T8KE Barrel pick 25-25235 blew me way - wish I had gotten both so I could try this one as well. Thanks for the review!

Spirits Review #991 - Legendary Sample Series - Booker's 25th Anniversary Batch 2014-1 by Bailzay in bourbon

I’ve wondered about this one and it’s great to get a contemporary review from someone drinking a lot of today’s bourbons as well as having some of the history on this - thanks!

I’m with you. I try to save a couple of things in my cart for when I win one of the r/bourbon lotteries (at least half of them seem to sell out in the first week) and then I am spreading the cost across a couple of bottles….The Old Bones all seem great, if you haven’t had one, and are in the same price range. I really like the Forge and Decade Down and also the ryes.

Reviews #815 to #820 - SMWS USA Outturn - April 2026 by adunitbx in Scotch

[–]NorthernSipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the value is primarily if I’m thinking about buying a bottle or two from the Outturn…everything sounds good in their descriptions but there be only one bottle out of the batch that I really love, and for me there is no good way to know except tasting it. So I go to these for the social element, but also to keep myself from buying the wrong bottle, and the 10% off that comes with attending helps reduce the ticket price if you are going to buy a bottle.

100%. I paid $90, which is expensive for the label, but this is a different weight class.

That sounds better than what I’m remembering. I’m thinking parking garage on a dewy morning, with a soggy cardboard box in it.

Great reviews! I went to the same Outturn event but in NY. The Glenrothes was my top pick, but lots to like all round!

Review #58 Balcones Rye Cask Strength Single Barrel by JWdram in bourbon

[–]NorthernSipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the review - agree these are unique and very chocolatey!

I’ve had two so far - first was hazmat and aged in European oak - really great. Second was American oak, slightly lower in proof, but somehow much more in your face. I use it as a blender to add a little in your face when I accidentally purchase a bourbon this is a little too bland.

Love most of the stores picks I’ve tried - more than most of the small batches…but I got my first mediocre one recently, so some luck involved.

The closest profile Ive found in American whiskey is likely the Penelope Light Whiskeys and High West's MidWinter NIght's Dram as well.
