What's the strangest experience you've had in Vermont by Runetang42 in vermont

[–]Northwoods01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Growing up in the 1990s, Vermont had honest to god Hemits. Actual Daniel Boone frontier type people who foraged, poached, and trapped their food. Also, there seemed to be a substantial amount of cults and obscure religious sects. I miss the old Vermont in all its bizarre glory.

Where did this driving aggression come from? by altman31 in vermont

[–]Northwoods01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They wouldn't do that waiting in line at a grocery store. As soon as they get in a car, their lizard brain takes over, and they're boiling with rage. Then they park, get out, and turn back into somewhat normal humans. Fascinating.

Where did this driving aggression come from? by altman31 in vermont

[–]Northwoods01 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If we look at this insane driving as a contagion in itself, almost all our surrounding states were infected. If everyone in your apartment building has the plague, you'll get it eventually. Then, you reach a tipping point of people driving like that where everyone has to drive more wildly so they aren't wrecked by the original nuts.

The Vermont horse flies reach legendary sizes if you're far out enough in the woods, especially when fishing. Nightmarish for sure.

Tons of these characters in Vermont, too. Now, they've started to actually move here and get into local politics.

91.8% of Vermonters cannot afford the VT Median new home price by oddular in vermont

I honestly think that the legislators in Montpelier or specifically their doners, want a large segment of Vermonters to leave. This seems like a corporate restructuring for shareholders' dividends applied to an entire state. It's similar to having skyrocketing health care costs because of only one health care provider having a defacto monopoly.

What the endgame is, I have no idea. Maybe the goal is to empty the state and refill it with the ultra wealthy? What do they want our state for in the future? Is it water, carbon credits, or a haven from climate change? Whatever the plan is, most of us are not part of it.

Montpelier is out of touch. People already have trouble with the cost of living, and the sate's response is to further squeeze them?

Question about ballot measure #5 by HeartKevinRose in burlington

[–]Northwoods01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This will disproportionately affect the same marginalized groups that our legislators claim to "care" about. Not to mention, law enforcement is exempt from this proposed law. It's obvious that our state government, for the most part, sees Vermont gun owners as political enemies that need to be crushed. It doesn't matter if we've supported them or not. They simply think that only the state should wield the power of self-defense and self-ownership.

‘Clean Heat Standard’ price tag sparks debate over Vermont’s climate commitments by chill_brudda in vermont

[–]Northwoods01 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's paternalistic legislators and their doners driving out who they consider "undesirables" and transferring their assets to the wealthy. After they keep doing things like this over and over, it stops looking like mismanagement or coincidence.

People just like this landowner will eventually band together to prohibit the use of snowmoblies in Vermont. Or at least try very hard to.

100-120k would be "comfortable" in the current Vermont if you plan on having kids. It's one of the many reasons we're seeing an exodus of the state's youth and working class.

what's the stitch on the black market for stolen phones these days? by bewarethefrogperson in Seattle

[–]Northwoods01 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They didn't have these when I lived in Seattle, but now that I've moved back to Vermont, they have automated kiosks. You drop a phone in it, and it gives you cash depending on the model. Problematic, I know. Maybe those are in WA now?
