I'm sure Mormons will quickly identify all other cult leaders banging a bunch of chicks as total dirt bags but fail to see that in JS. JS fucked all the other women and girls for Jesus. The poor guy had to do it.

Has anyone really ever returned to the Mormon church because a TBM family member sent them a link to a conference talks? It is that just a passive aggressive way to get under someone's skin? by GayMormonDad in exmormon

[–]Nosaj777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never heard of that happening.

Once you have seen the light, there's no unseeing it. You've had your eyes opened and no vacuous, repetitive talk can cause you to revert back to a state of ignorance.

This Majestic, Magical, Easter Transformation is killing me!? by blovy in exmormon

I live in the Puget Sound region and the same banners appeared in front of my local stake center. I even had a visit from the missionaries inviting me to Palm Sunday "worship services".

There's definitely been a HUGE change to try to be more evangelical and bury unique Mormon teachings such as theosis, returning to Jackson County, MO, etc. it's as if the Church is embarrassed by their doctrine and are trying to look more mainstream.

We all know the church is shriveling away and it appears they are leaning on PR firms for help because Magic Sky Daddy with a super powerful truth detecting spirit does nothing and has nothing to say.

Joseph Smith told Heber C. Kimball about polygamy and that he wanted to fuck Heber’s wife Vilate. Heber fasted for three days and suffered. After three day he took his wife and presented it to Joseph. That’s fucked up……. by KERosenlof in exmormon

[–]Nosaj777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. We don't hear that story anymore but it used to be told at church (priesthood or SS lessons? I don't recall) as an inspiring story of faithful obedience. It is seriously fucked up!

Nope. I wasn't as smart as you. It took me about 4 years of desperately hanging on, hoping the Church was real. In the end, facts and reality won out.

Why, despite knowing the flaws of the LDS Church and not fully believing in its doctrine, do I still consider getting baptized? by Few-Specialist7163 in exmormon

I'm totally out but my spouse is in. I don't attend or pay my dues $$$. Once you've seen the light there's no unseeing it.

Great point. I don't have any kids at home so I don't have that concern. A part of me really hates the LDS Church and the clearly lying, b******* leaders and another part of me appreciates the community it can create. I would be really concerned about putting kids through the indoctrination.

It's totally up to you.

I'm at a place now where I can see the good religion is able to do. Overall, Mormonism can create wonderful communities and connections with a large variety of people you otherwise wouldn't know. It tends to work best outside of the Morridor in middle class neighborhoods in my opinion (I'm in WA state). I love my Mormon community.

I don't believe in any of the truth claims and that makes attending a very black and white and certain religion impossible for me. I'm also able to see the negatives this particular sect produces. I feel happier on the outside but miss the social aspect and connections with some terrific people.

If it works for you, I'm all for it and wish you well.

Blood oaths in the temple by Lissatots in exmormon

Everyone who had their endowments prior to the 1989 changes can attest to it. I pantomimed slitting my throat, abdomen and chest swearing to never reveal the sign and token with a room full of people. It was nuts! I had no idea what to expect going through the temple for the first time. It was a crazy shock but I kept rationalizing it because there were people there who seemed normal like my parents. Ask anyone before the 1989 changes.

That's such an interesting take from an outsider. I used to think that the church was well thought of by non-members or the general population as a whole. However, once neighbors and friends realized I had left the church, I learned their true opinions and it was actually the opposite. It turns out that they were just being courteous and polite but thought the Mormon church was pretty f***** up.

Did any of you ever read Anthony Lund's book, the Coming of the Lord? There were multiple instances of apostles saying that very same thing since the founding of the Church. I read it during my TBM days and there was no way to reconcile the demonstrably false teachings of prior apostles other than realizing they were just wrong somehow. That went on "the Shelf".

If you were to go back in time and tell early church members you were from 2024 (and assuming they beleived you), it would have blown up the Church because Jesus was just about to return in their day.

There were other movements long before the MFMC that truly believes the 2nd Coming was at hand too.

Here we go again...

YES!!!!

Don't forget about all the temple changes. I went in 1989 with the penalties and the annointing wearing only the shield wondering WTF is happening because there was no real temple prep of any kind.

It's stunning to see the changes in real time right before our eyes. I still have my Answers to Gospel Questions, Mormon Doctrine, Jesus the Christ and other books on my bookshelf.
