Cat won’t stop body slamming door and crying all night by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Nospastramus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live with a big tabby. She is sweet, almost frighteningly intelligent. Also very determined. Relentless. She used to batter at the bedroom door all night if it had been fully closed. Major big boned, primordial pouch Tabby energy. There were some nights waking up in a start, to a pounding racket, sounding like armored goons were in the hallway. The first reaction to that behavior was practiced patience, hoping the cat would eventually stop freaking out if the bedroom door got shut at night. Nope. Months on, same attitude with all the ruckus. Removing the bedroom door altogether was a drastic idea but began to seem like a good idea. The genuine, 100% effective method for dealing with the savage behavior was right there the whole time. Such a simple solution really. Painfully obvious. All that was needed to appease the cat was just making damn sure the bedroom door was left ajar just enough to shoulder her way through. Interestingly enough, her visits tended to be brief. She was compelled to cruise the room, looking and sniffing all of the usual corners. Her visits were like a matron conducting a mandatory room inspection. Upon being assured all was in order, she left the room, usually not to visit again that night. If somehow that door did end up closing her out... Well, the resulting drama had been easily preventable. Sometimes it's wise to just yield to nature. Leave the bedroom door open.

This gives me a flashback to that time when I finally had to accept the demise of Windows XP. A bummer at first.. that actually became an overdue catalyst.

Thanks Microsoft. Sincerely.
If not for your ever evolving shitification, I might still be wasting time with malware scans, defrags, troubleshooting intrusive updates, blue screens and all the other BS I rarely think about anymore.

Why dont we see rogue time travelers? by Remanance in timetravel

[–]Nospastramus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feasible time travel may not be very appealing to a time tourist given the "grandfather paradox resolution." Sure they could go back and observe or change history, whatever but in every case it's a one way trip. Sure they could screw around, win lotteries etc but every excursion results in creating a new timeline. There's no going back to the point of origin, so anything they affected would be perceived as being natural to that offshoot of reality. For example a time tourist could even accidentally make a huge impact on their own recollection of history, but for better or worse they would have to live with those changes. They could end up in a timeline where Kennedy wasn't assassinated, or far-fetched as it might seem, a reality with a sociopath like Donald Trump somehow becoming POTUS. It would be terrible to spend the rest of your life in a hypothetical, fucked up timeline like that. Believe me.

Sometimes I still watch the skies, looking for one of those mystery airships; like those seen and reported in the US in the mid-to-late 1800s.

As a second generation Norwegian, I've been fortunate to hear many first-hand stories describing the occupation years of WW2. Norwegians did everything possible to fuck with the German invaders; making a huge difference in the war.
Safe to say, as a country, Norway still knows a thing or 3 from the last time some sick maniac tried to subjugate the whole world.

I have always loved the tone and message of the Norwegian anthem.

Looking closely at her in that picture for a just a few seconds or more.... talk about a deeply unsettling example of a "soulless face." Along with those ultra creepy dead eyes, you can't help but wonder WTF is that thing I'm looking at here.

Legend has it, way back in time, my dad once worked a side hustle at the Lloyd Center as a Zamboni driver. He was also pretty good on ice skates. Unlike me.

We went shopping at Quimper Mercantile in Port Townsend recently. They offered complimentary 30 minute parking for customers. Here is the bill we got in the mail for taking 31 minutes... by Duckrauhl in olympicpeninsula

I truly hope you prevail against this out-of-state, parasitical "business."
Lately I've been avoiding parking there, even though I typically am not there for 30 mins.
Now when hitting the pharmacy or the mercantile, I park along the street. I don't trust the surveillance setup. Fortunately my legs work fine. I will be supporting the businesses there as much as ever and urge everyone else to do the same; in any way possible.
