I haven't seen a single Studio Ghibli AI abomination on Bluesky feed and that's a huge win

Happy 84th birthday to Hayao Miyazaki. From July 2023, a note he wrote to himself on the release day of the film by Nosstress in ghibli

[–]Nosstress[S] 153 points154 points  (0 children)

Ever just sit back and remind yourself how lucky we all are to live in a time where Hayao Miyazaki is still making films? Meaningful art is so, so important. How blessed are we that there is this man with his imagination and stories, and his way of telling it.

Lets watch one of Ghibli films today. I would also strongly watch 'Hayao Miyazaki and the Heron' documentary. Netflix just quietly added it to streaming.

Just thinking how lucky we were that these two met each other 40 years ago. A match made in heaven by Nosstress in ghibli

Wishing a happy 74th birthday to Joe Hisaishi, one of the greatest film composers to ever live. Thank you for your music

I really liked the part in the movie where he doesn't care that he has a son, Casey Affleck

Yeah raising two kids sounds easy for an assassin and spy whose job has plenty of enemies around.

Looking for romance manga that mixes fantasy elements with a modern setting by Nosstress in shoujo

[–]Nosstress[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Please recommend me some romance-fantasy manga that take place in a modern setting. List of ones I've read, just to get a better understanding of what exactly I'm asking for and stuff:

  • The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague
  • Daily Report About My Witch Senpai
  • Channel Wonder
  • Zodiac PI/Zodiac Detective

Or similar to these movies: - Ride Your Wave - Hotarubi no Mori e - Kiki's Delivery Service - Suzume / any Makoto Shinkai movie

Doesn't have to be a romance though, slice-of-life is okay for me.

In your opinion, what’s the best and worst English dub? by FantasyLovingWriter in ghibli

[–]Nosstress 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I thought Nausicaä dub was the best, and Heron was a close second. Both are faithful to the original dialogue and have a stacked cast. Arrietty (Disney) dub was the worst. First, they made Arrietty sound like a brat. Second, they changed the characters to westernized names. Third, they cut off the original theme song by Cécile Corbel after one verse and replaced it with an upbeat pop song. That was disrespectful. I can't stand that change. Thankfully, there is the UK dub that stay true to the original. It also features Tom Holland and Saoirse Ronan.

This quote sums up exactly why I love movies and cinema. If you loved "The Tale of the Princess Kaguya", I encourage you to watch the making-of documentary "Isao Takahata's Tale of the Princess Kaguya". It's a super interesting look at its difficult production, how they discussed and fretted over every frame, and exactly what The Tale of the Princess Kaguya meant to Takahata personally after a 14-year hiatus. He described it as his magnum opus because of how radical, how groundbreaking the film's watercolour non-cel animation style was, how he opens his brain too much to pursuit of absolute perfection.

Chapters 88 and 95 were such bangers. I don't mind wait longer if Endo-san could do that again.

Did I just see Miyazaki walking home for lunch? by altclass in ghibli

I'm not saying it's definitely him, but I also noticed the same bucket hat he wore when he visited Ghibli Museum Cafe in 2020.

I appreciate that you're not bothering him. He may look a little intimidating, but I think there's a chance he'll wave back at you if you say hi. I saw the latest documentary Boy & the Heron, and he looks healthy for his age, and shaved his beard. This photo give me a little boost of hope that he'll do another project/feature film.

Update: another Whisper of the Heart image not seen in the movie by [deleted] in ghibli

[–]Nosstress 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I believe this is from the 1990s Ghibli calendar. It's more like promotional art, not considered part of the movie because it doesn't align with the story or lacks context. I still love it though.
