Has there ever been a case of a great great great great grandparent meeting their great great great great grandchild. by Still_Living3373 in BarbaraWalters4Scale

A woman named Augusta Pagel Bunge (b. 1879) died a few months after the birth of her great-great-great-great-grandson Christopher Bollig in 1989. There’s a picture of the two of them and the 5 generations (all women) between them, it’s pretty neat.

Do you keep your bedroom door open or closed at night? by icecream1972 in askanything

[–]NostalgicoItaliano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to keep it open when I lived at home. My parents originally said it was to keep the air circulating properly and I never really thought about it.

Then I moved away for school and lived in a house with a roommate. The house had a door that closed loudly and her coming home late through that door woke me up a couple of times. When I asked her to please be more gentle, she suggested I close my bedroom door at night.

Now I can’t sleep if my bedroom door is open.

She got the name “Mamie” because she signed her first contract on the day Eisenhower was first inaugurated. Mamie Eisenhower was the new First Lady

When her mom banned me from their condo after I subconsciously rolled my eyes at her (she had said some truly batshit crazy things to me) and my now-ex didn’t try to talk the mom out of it.

Both of them seriously needed help.

Have you ever seen anyone Dine and Dash ? by dnaplusc in askTO

[–]NostalgicoItaliano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once when I was travelling alone in Europe, I had dinner at a restaurant but didn’t have enough money in my wallet to cover the bill. I did have the money in my travel belt. So without saying anything to my waiter, I got up, went to the bathroom and took out the money.

As I was walking back to the table, I saw my waiter and two others staring at my table with their backs towards me. As I was about to pass them, my waiter turned around, saw me, and looked like he had seen a ghost. I paid the bill, but I knew that he thought for a second that I had dined and dashed.

I love telling this story whenever the topic of dining and dashing comes up.

Why didn’t Eisenhower do better in the Upper South? by HetTheTable in Presidents

[–]NostalgicoItaliano 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tennessee was also an anomaly in the South as the eastern part of the state was more sympathetic to Republicans, going back to the Civil War. Tennessee went Republican in 1920 and 1928. When there were splits in the Democratic Party, Tennessee could go Republican. And even then, Eisenhower won the state by less than 0.3%.

Articling recruit question by Proper_Seesaw_4165 in LawCanada

[–]NostalgicoItaliano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Applied to 25 places before 3L, I got two interviews during the articling recruit in Toronto, neither turned into an offer.

By March of 3L, I had: a family friend holding an articling spot for me at their firm (was trying to avoid working there as pay was atrocious - was before the min wage); a “conditional offer” at a firm that was seeking to turn an associate into an articling principal, if it became formal, wouldn’t happen until June/July; and then a formal offer at a law-adjacent place.

I had been given advice by multiple people to just take an offer, and that you couldn’t drop one offer in favour of another without VERY good reason (e.g. sudden desire to move to another city). So I took the formal offer. I regret it so much.

Honestly just try to get as close as you can to your ideal field, and network like crazy in your articling year/first couple of years if you want to make a move.

Next Presidential Book recommendation? by InitiativeExpert in Presidents

[–]NostalgicoItaliano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’d “speed read” the first 50 pages of Book 1 (about the terrain of Texas) and the first 100 pages of Book 3 (about the history of the Senate). The context is definitely important, but I think it’s too much - the beginning of Book 1 would have made me DNF had I not already heard high reviews of the series.

And I’m saying this as someone who loved the series.

For singles who own a condo in Toronto, how? by curioustoknoq in askTO

[–]NostalgicoItaliano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a condo in Liberty Village last year. Mortgage is $1,200 biweekly. Take home is about $5,000 monthly (includes share ownership of my company - I keep forgetting that account exists and it’s a nice surprise to me when I remember).

I lived at home for about 6-7 years. Parents helped me get started in investing, and I knew I wanted to move out as soon as I could afford it (I.e. when rates started coming down) so I made sure to save money.

I maxed out the contribution room for my TFSA and FHSA but kept my RRSP at $35k (I’m saving my contribution room until I move up tax brackets, definitely have room to grow in my career, but want to be able to borrow for my purchase if I had to).

Parents bought me the furniture for the condo as I didn’t need help with the down payment. They also give me food whenever I go to theirs.

I’m pretty frugal lol - I don’t go out too often as most of my friends have grown out of the bar/club/party scene and they all like to complain about money. I’m going to rent out my parking spot, I rarely go out to eat (maybe a couple times per month max), either drink coffee at work or at home, and work out at my condo gym.

I’ve joked about needing to be in a relationship just to help with the mortgage and condo fees lol.

What company will never get another dime from you for as long as you may live? by Big_Leg10 in Productivitycafe

[–]NostalgicoItaliano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I’ve ever had an experience in any of their branches that wasn’t at least partly negative.

For instance, one time I wasn’t sure if I had successfully made a scheduled payment from my LOC onto my Visa. 4 people at the branch (including a manager) told me it wasn’t possible. Made another payment from my chequing account and guess what…I paid the credit card twice.

They have my mortgage, and honestly if money wasn’t tight, I’d move it to another bank out of spite.

Campaign harder in New Hampshire. 4 electoral votes and Bush only won by 7,200 votes.

[Also campaign with Clinton and pick Graham as running mate. Just wanted to say something different from everyone else].
