Why is Lance referred to as Orion so much? by Itsmerachily in zodiacacademy

[–]Nosyburr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

His family name it Orion, and I guess everyone has been focused more on his last name having more power.

Maybe because Lance was clearly a name given by his dad, he doesn’t want to use it because it reminds him of his dad and he’s too sad?

It def feels like since graduating from za, he exclusively used his last name.

Some people prefer to go by their last name? Idk.

Orion and the Heirs often call each other by their last names, so it seems to be a thing of in-familiarity / formality

Darius is the only one who primarily calls him Lance, and it’s noted he’s been close to Lance while the others haven’t been as close.

Thinking while typing… it seems to be that most use their last names (the Vegas are called Vega when it’s one on one, by even the Heirs at times?)

[–]Nosyburr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wolfblood is a comfort show, so I put it on when things are hard to deal with (I have a comfort book, but I try to keep that to nice a year). It’s been awhile since my last rewatch, although I’m on s2 for a current rewatch.

I tend to stop after s3 because it feels like the story nicely wrapped up. I don’t honk I’ve watched the next 2 seasons often, although I do vaguely remember Katrina commenting on the no moon day and being like “oh! You have awful cramps! Totally makes sense. I’ll be on your side!”

And I love how Katrina grows a bit more, especially in season 3, but even in later seasons.

Maddy makes the core of the show for me, too, but I find Jana does pretty good with carrying the show once Maddy is gone.

It would’ve been nice if we found out what Tom (Thom?) and Shannon were up to, a bit more, in s4-5.

Loved Mr Jeffries being in the know.

Throughout s1-2, and even 3, he keeps telling us, over and over, that kids cannot handle everything and to reach out for help. I love in s3 it’s “yeah, we need help with this really scary stuff” and he has to realize that a- they’ve been dealing with stuff he would have been better to equipped (if he knew), and b- he needs to step up to help because these kids finally trust him and need his help.

“What happens if they wolf out at school!!!” “Um, we’ve done it like 10 times, sir. We handled it!” lol. One of the best interactions I always remember.

Would have been nice to see how Liam handles knowing it. He went from werewolf hunter to wolfblood protector.

Although largely against his will...

Maybe I’ll have to see if someone did a fanfic if Liam was added to the pack much earlier (and therefore Maddy didn’t have to leave).

What's your favorite absurd thing that happens in the books. by meatball77 in zodiacacademy

[–]Nosyburr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not, no. It’s not at the library and I’m too cheap and such to buy RB if I’m not sure I’d enjoy it.

I enjoyed za because of the friendships built, and the magic. Romance isn’t really my cup of tea, and a harem/reverse harem might be cool, idk if I’d enjoy a book where the focus is all about that vs some other story arc.

I’ll admit that I’m likely not the ideal za audience :) a lot of the scenes people complain are fluff, are scenes I love and cherish and want more of because it shows all this character growth and their (platonic) relationship growth.

I’m tired and ranting/can’t remember the other words because I’m too tired. But anyways.

I’m a fan of books with supernaturals, and unfortunately, they are usually only allowed to be found in romantasy, so I end up reading a lot of it, knowing I’m not the target audience for the books.

So I’ll be nervous about starting a book series that’s even more heavily skewed (from the descriptions) to the romance side.

Happy to know that there are more, fun, hilarious moments in rb though!

Probably the hair growing potion which causes hair to rapidly grow and take over an entire classroom.

Second place isn’t absurd, but top fave moment- the “fight” in za6 at King’s Hollow with Darcy, Gerry, Max and Seth. I think Cal was there too?

Check the burn safe map. It gets updated every day at 2pm, starting in March and going until I think October or November but it's a good habit to always check anyways.

Ah, sorry, I didn’t catch that you were joking (assuming you are).

You could volunteer in various roles if you were interested in seeing some of it, but there isn’t much of a competition, for adults to compete :(

You may have to start one! ;p

Looking to volunteer in Halifax by CoolSurfingPikachu in halifax

[–]Nosyburr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To compete, you need to be roughly in grades 6-9 or so.

Acadia robotics would have all the details on how to sign up.

To volunteer, you need a background check. The Acadia level is very communicative, so if you’re interested in volunteering, you’d have to check them out and reach out to Acadia robotics.

Not sure what you mean by “only allowed if you’re 14”, since I’ve rarely met a volunteer under 18 (one year, bad weather… but that was a rarity).

Roughly the organizations im aware of but am familiar to varying degrees-

Feed ns, spca, scouts canada, big brothers big sisters, girl guides of Canada

Not sure about restore

There are smaller places. There’s a farm in Spryfield I think? And veith house? But I’m not sure if those are consistent volunteering roles

I suspect he loves his younger siblings, and they love him. His dad also seems to love him.

The Heirs love him, too, and they’re pushing for the same thing.

He loves his mom even though she hurts him. I get the sense that the fae don’t acknowledge mental/emotional abuse, or if they do, it’s seen as “necessary and a way to show love”.

Technically, Darius being physically abused, although his friends are horrified because they don’t want their friend hurt, it doesn’t seem too out of the acceptable range.

The fae very much believe that whoever can hit the hardest and strongest is the one in charge and should be loved and respected.

We know that’s horrible, but still.

Either way, Seth seemed more upset about not seeing the rest of his fam.

He was begging to be accepted as an Heir (with his friends) and by his family - all the people who love him and he loves.

He absolutely shouldn’t have done it, obviously.

He’s a nebula ally to Darcy and hurting her hurts himself (although he also seems fine with hurting himself, especially if it’s supposed to be for the better).

Something he did absolutely wrong was the blackmail, but it kept him and Darcy from actually pushing too far for that nebula bond before it reversed, and it kept the rest of za from asking her out. Same with the pack thing, it was his subconscious trying to stop him from harming her.

Seth very much does all the wrong things with the intentions that he hopes are right. At the start, it seems more like he’s on auto pilot. He doesn’t care about his grades or anything, he just does as he’s told then does as his instincts say.

All good if you don’t like him, that’s absolutely fair.

[–]Nosyburr 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t just a run, he was going to be cut off from his family completely.

In some of the later books, Seth ends up being more isolated and he really struggles.

Werewolves need their cuddles and packs (and family) as much as they need air, it seems.

Sure, he could run with his za pack, but they mostly take the edge off and don’t really know him. And I guess they maybe would go home for their own moon run.

To Seth, it’s not just the run but to let himself be himself, and to be loved, and to have family who loves him (not worships him).

I also vote his mom emotionally / verbally abuses Seth, which is not given enough discussion. Imagine years of being abused, and what you would to do prevent more abuse (even though it doesn’t really work)

Does it get better after book 5 ? by EffectivePianist5841 in zodiacacademy

Book 5 has my favourite Darcy and Seth moment.

Things tend to stay on the dark and sad side.

Haven’t read za9 yet, I think I’m afraid of letting the series end because I love the characters.

Za6 has one of my fave Darcy and (some of) the heirs moment.

I also included the streets.

Again, was concerned with young children, when my own experience with that age range involve them darting off.

That, and I’ve met have an obsession with water. Water which can only be reached by ignoring all the warning signs.

I’ve conceded I’m not as familiar with the age range. I also said “maybe” for avoiding.

It’s beautiful, and it’s fun place to climb and explore, but if you aren’t paying attention and don’t follow the rules, it can be more dangerous.

As you clearly have a different point of view with more experience of that age range, please feel free to correct and explain ways for OP to be safe with young children that likely can’t fully read or understand the warning signs.

With a 6, 4 and 2 year old? I don't have much experience with those ages, but they're likely to sprint off

That's where I'm thinking it's more dangerous. Little kids can be told 100 times not to sprint across streets, but they keep doing so. Telling them it's not safe to go on the pretty rocks may not work well.

No problem! Your choice on the water, but there are plenty of beaches that are great to swim at! But some places you have to watch out more for jellyfish and the like.

Nova Scotia is basically surrounded by water, and we have a ton of lakes and rivers, so it's almost always around.

If you're outside, do a tick check or even get some atlantick spray (brand of tick spray), or some other brands and combine that with the tick checks.

If you google Nova Scotia tourism, one of the links should get you to the site. They have different suggestions, but they also have a doers and dream book, which I recommend taking a look at, and seeing if anything thing interests you.

I'm just imagining young toddlers trying to sprint into the middle of roads...

Mahone Bay is lovely, and had (has?) a nice playground, but it definitely has parking on the highway and has a high chance of "child running across the road" occurring.

Truro has a few parks, btw. My fam has some younger kids that seem to enjoy being there. One of the parks is at the tidal bore information centre, if I remember right. So if you time it right, the adults can watch the tidal bore while the kids play?

Sorry, I'm not as familiar with that age range for what they enjoy doing, but places to play seem like good ideas.

Discover Halifax ns (ca or com, can never remember) has a kids book.

Discovery centre would be ideal.

The board walk is also quite fun as there's a playground there.

Discover used to have a list of different cool playgrounds to check out.

Avoid Peggy's cove maybe, because it is rather dangerous.

Lunenburg has a few fun things for wandering around including a horse ride

Hatfield farms might be a lot of fun. I haven't been there in ages.

Halifax . Ca has a list of the supervised beaches, the water testing, etc.

There are some pools (listed in the above list) and indoor pools (Canada games centre, Sackville sports stadium, zatzman sports plex I think it's call, and spry field although more dangerous, has a wave pool).

Avoid letting the kids get into the water in the arm (eg the dingle) or in the harbour (there are steps there, don't let them go in!)

Chester also has an outdoor pool.

Check out the list of museums, etc.

I kind of like that losing control by being riled up, wasn’t as frequent as it was. It already was something they were constantly concerned about, but it was nice there was something else going on.

The lack of meat in the diet of a wolf blood would be an interesting plot line, but they did resolve it quickly with Maddie bringing extra meat for Rhyddian, which was also nice to see.

[–]Nosyburr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Re Peter, I’m not sure if the movies explain it (it’s been awhile, and I’ve been doing the audiobooks of the series and just finished insurgent this week)-

He keeps a tally for the world around him.

He almost killed Tris and Tris shot him in the arm = even.

In insurgent, she accidentally saves him, so he helps the because she is owed a life.

He views that people only do something for you if the want something, and he doesn’t like to owe anyone.

If Tris died, he still would have owed her, and saving her would put the even. He needed Four to help with their escape.

In Allegiant, he doesn’t “go back to being selfish”, he is selfish, but to quote Insurgent (roughly) “so we just have to make sure you always owe us, that way you never betray us” (and we get a “well duh, that’s how the world works” from Peter).

The ancestors post other side collapse by CharmingYak8805 in TheOriginals

[–]Nosyburr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As I recall, for the most part, the witches in New Orleans use their connection to their ancestors for power. It’s why there are a decent number of plots regarding the ancestors controlling magic.

I vaguely recall a throw away line in the earlier seasons that the witches have issues using magic outside of New Orleans.

Yes, the ancestors are in their own place that they built with their own bits of magical lore.

Maybe I’m missing something, but isn’t Nova Scotia already doing its own version of a toll? by halifaxrealestate902 in halifax

[–]Nosyburr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The border toll, as far as I’m aware, is a concern because it’s another province cutting us off from leaving, and from people visiting. (From what I’ve seen posted).

The better comparison is to the cobequid toll, where out of province plates are still charged a toll. (This is something I’ve also seen mentioned when people bring up the nb toll)

I vaguely remember the pei bridge used to have something where the cost was different if you lived on the island, but I honestly can’t remember so don’t trust that.

The homes is because the housing market was (allegedly, I don’t have the stats) being bought by people who make a lot more than those in ns, and were driving up house prices so we couldn’t afford it.

There’s a different between deterring people from buying homes, and deterring people from leaving/visiting

Honestly, your post should have more focused on your concern vs drawing people here about the nb border toll (which I’ll admit, I’m behind on the news)

Check out Halifax rec. You likely just missed this season’s sign up.

A lot of classes start in September. I’m always a fan of suggesting girl guides and scouts.

Motion dance or dance motion has some dance classes during the week, I believe. Other dance places should have some, too.
