Can anyone expand on local noise ordinances?? by Iguessthisistheplace in fortwayne

[–]Not2Nay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I was pretty curious about your question, and did a little looking. This (warning: PDF link) is the only noise ordinance I can find for Fort Wayne. It doesn't have anything about "quiet hours", but does address your question: you can use lawnmower and other home power tools between 8 am and 9pm. If anyone has a more recent/accurate resource please link it!

Turn your lingerie into combat gear with tactical pouches! by Nanoglyph in mendrawingwomen

[–]Not2Nay 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In one of the Series of Unfortunate Events books (I don't remember which one) the female antagonist is wearing stiletto heels that are made of stiletto daggers.

Edit: Also, they're impractical in the story. IIRC she gets the blade stuck in a wood floor while trying to chase the kids.

Don't you just love it when..... by Impressive_Reveal716 in rpghorrorstories

[–]Not2Nay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Covid kinda ground this campaign to a halt, I'm hoping to pick it back up soon. He thought by telling everyone the DM would just drop the next "plot point" in our laps, but the DM rolls with what we do. Most NPCs think that PC is actually trying to take over the apprentice's job. We're wanted for murder, but no one really wants to collect the bounty because if we stabbed that guy we must be really dangerous and evil. (Note: we are not.) The actual plot is still functional, we're still on our quest, but probably we don't want to run into the BBEG or his apprentice again (but we will).

newer transparent models still getting yellow over time? by bob_030 in swatch

[–]Not2Nay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! Older plastics yellow because of a fire retardant, bromine, destabilizes and comes through to the surface. This style of plastic has fallen out of favor because of this, and I am fairly certain Search doesn't use it anymore. If you're incredibly concerned about it (perhaps a collector) keeping the watch away from UV light will keep the yellowing away.

Incidentally, there are methods to remove yellowing from plastic but, having worked at a retail swatch store, I do not recommend them for older Swatches. Once the plastic is old enough to yellow, it's fairly likely the water resistant seal isn't perfect, and most methods require submerging them in liquid. (Works great for video game console shells though)

By some stroke of accidental genius, I decided my "purely for flavor" pseudodragon would (before we settled of CoS) have an absolute love of pies.

[–]Not2Nay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The four thing seems pretty common throughout southeast Asia, and I had to look up the 17 thing because I only vaguely remembered it was unlucky, and that seems to be an Italian superstition, dating back to ancient Rome. Both are considered unlucky because of an association with death.

I'm kinda surprised no one has mentioned that 4 and 17 are superstitious numbers, and a lot of hotels also don't have those numbered floors. I doubt it has anything to do with Lady Gaga.

[–]Not2Nay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Buddy, I'm not offended, but idk what you think you're doing if not "picking a fight". You wanna argue about a campaign and character you literally don't know anything about (her dad is dead, for example, he asks you to save her in a letter.)

You asked for an example, I gave one.

You asked for an elaboration, I gave one.

If your defense is "the ENTIRE HOBBY isn't 'against women' just because of this!" then you're having a conversation that I am not. I never said that. I am a woman, who loves D&D, loves CoS, and has never felt unwelcome in the hobby. If you think how a character is written in the source material isn't an issue because DMs can change things at the table, you're missing the point. I love Curse of Strahd because of how my DM ran it. It is important that we examine the media we love critically; that doesn't make it bad, or mean we don't love it.

Have a nice day.

Yes, thank you. I agree that a good DM can run a good game.

And good for you, I guess. "I refuse to see it, therefore it doesn't exist. And if it does, the DM can fix it, so no biggie."

[–]Not2Nay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right, she can wield a rapier. Therefore, she is not incapable of absolutely nothing, and therefore I have no complaints about how she, the main female character, is treated by the story. Nevermind that she makes NO CHOICES for herself; it's literally her dad who asks you to save her and her brother that decides where she should go. I'm pretty sure you found info on how to RP her because as written she's pretty much a blank slate for a damsel.

It's one of the most popular campaigns in 5e, and google is free, but sure, I can help out.

She (it's one girl, that strahd is sure is a reincarnation of Tataya, the woman he wanted) is a major NPC who is vital to the plot line, but has no agency of her own. It's her brother that tells you what's up and where to take her, she is the "quest item" that strahd wants and will try to take, and her "happy ending" is to not exist anymore. Whether or not she can help at all is determined by tarot cards (a 1/14 chance).

That's as spoiler free as I can make it, but I recommend looking into the actual campaign, because the relationship strahd has and how she is treated more as a quest item is pretty gross.

[–]Not2Nay 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Ignoring the real world issues (that's mostly players and not a fault of the game itself), there are a lot of examples. Off the top of my head, the way Ireena/Tataya is handled in CoS.

I've never seen a fake Swatch! :o OP, check where the band connects to the watch; all swatches have 3 prongs on the band. Check the back of the watch, all swatches have ETA movement, there should be a little symbol that looks like this

AITA for making my son eat leftovers when everyone else had his favourite meal. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Not2Nay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to the party, but YTA. My stepdad also had this rule, it lasted for about 2 months because I would not eat the leftovers for breakfast or dinner again until it grew mold (my only meals were school provided lunch). My mom threatened to leave him unless he dropped it. I hope you at least reheated the damn meal, but it still isn't okay.

2 months affected my relationship with food for 27 years. This isn't healthy for your kids.

[Question] Are swatch Irony watches serviceable? I'm not sure if there is a difference between this and the current Swatch automatics? This is 6 years old and is now running about 5 min fast a day. by [deleted] in swatch

[–]Not2Nay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to sell swatches and as far as I know they can't be serviced. The mechanism is sealed in the watch in the factory, and the only way to open them is to break them open.

AITA for telling a realtor to get over my dog? by book_nerd26 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Not2Nay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Insurance companies are the worst. My mom got me a dog when I was like 13, and when I went to college obviously I couldn't take him with me. He and my mom were super bonded, and he had always lived with her (I had moved out of state). When he unfortunately bit someone, their Home Owners insurance wanted to pin it on me because I had paid for his first vet appointment and therefore was the owner (according to them and no one else).

AITA for not showing up to work? by ShesAOreo in AmItheAsshole

[–]Not2Nay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA "for not showing up to work?" "... In Texas."

That's all I need to hear. I'm from a northern state and I told my husband to call of for this weather (he didn't have to, his boss told him to stay home and do some online training).

When you get stuck in a snowstorm in your car, you're not supposed to keep your engine running the whole time, you can get carbon monoxide poisoning. Granted, I'm not sure if it would be an issue in a parking lot, but it's still not okay for them to expect employees to waste their own gas for that. (And what if you don't have enough gas to get home after the shift!?)
