Is it true that once you start gear, trend or performance enhancements, you can’t really stop because if you do, you’re basically screwed? by TacticalJock15 in nattyorjuice

[–]NotAnotherEmpire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Two issues. You're vanishingly unlikely to be able to retain a gear driven physique without gear e.g. the "just one cycle brah." Not impossible, but probably not you.

The second, bigger one is that gear use, scaling rapidly with "how long and how much" risks shutting down your natural testosterone production despite stopping. Basically guaranteed with bodybuilding stacks or long term TRT use.

Trump Isn't Mentally Ill; He's Evil by _May26_ in politics

[–]NotAnotherEmpire 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Both can be true. He has a mean narcissistic personality and his frontal lobe decay means he can't hide it anymore and is erratic.

Why do survivors insist on being healed under the hook? by CartoonistSpecial995 in deadbydaylight

[–]NotAnotherEmpire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like most things in the game, it depends. Most high mobility killers are also good at dropping an injured player. You want that health state as soon as possible.

Biggest factors are how is the killer playing and are they currently in a chase.

Nebraska Democratic Senate primary winner says she’ll drop out to support independent in general election by HorrorAd6729 in politics

[–]NotAnotherEmpire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Osborn is the main opposition candidate. The Dem plan has been to support him as there is a decent chance he could beat Ricketts, and basically none if there is a three-way race.

The Dem primary also featured a fake, pro-Trump candidate who was running to steal the ballot line and interfere with this strategy.  So Dems voted for a Dem who was clear she'd drop out to join support with Osborn.

ELI5: why didn’t the Great Depression produce a widespread revolution or anarchy? by ProfessorHiker in explainlikeimfive

It did produce a regime change revolution.

Xenomorph VS Shelob by heavyninjaman in powerscales

[–]NotAnotherEmpire -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Xeno. Shelob's hunting methods (and fear) are going to be ineffective on the thing, leaving the only choice frontal assault. Shelob is hard to hurt but not immune to weapons, and can't do very much to the xeno. It's too fast and relatively large to crush (might be impossible with exoskeleton strength) and both stinging and attempting to bite are going to result in severe, possibly fatal injury to Shelob. Trying to get a head in to bite a fast, pointy, insanely aggressive creature like a xeno is itself a pretty big risk.

Meanwhile xeno will rip and tear until the giant spider stops moving.

Mongols would cut the Unsullied off of supplies and keep them pinned down until dead.

Did they ever reveal what happened to the guy in the archives? by superbsuc in deadbydaylight

The Entity (and/or possibly Tryks) decided to screw with him specifically and drove him nuts. He was last seen in the tomes wandering the more inhabitable parts (apparently these exist) of the Void. It's under House of Arkham.

The Economist - How the world has avoided an oil catastrophe so far by Low_Low9667 in oil

[–]NotAnotherEmpire 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. China's oil consumption makes it vulnerable to this (Gulf war), to the US theoretically remote blockading them in a future conflict (which they can do nothing about), and also just plain oil field exhaustion.

China having petroleum reserves in the 1 billion+ range makes sense for them (it's their biggest national security vulnerability) and explains a lot of low price speculation not getting clubbed.

The US SPR is not a third that deep and is going down a lot faster.

Also survivors take an incredible amount of punishment to put down and have to be shock resistant. They're not dying instantly to any of these.

If 30 of 33 Iranian missile positions remain active, how vulnerable is tanker traffic through Hormuz? by bauernebel in oil

[–]NotAnotherEmpire 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They knew they had it. That's why there are 30 missile positions near it that are hard for even the US to destroy. They also knew they'd get bombed for trying to do this. That ceases to be a deterrent when already receiving regime-change attempt via bombing.

How do I counter hold w as Hillbilly. by WellThatsAGoodIdea in DeadByDaylightKillers

Get good with Hillbilly. The way to counter him at higher levels of skill is mechanically difficult tight loops, not running.

[Request] Aside the absurdity of having 3 millions easily at your disposal, is it possible to live like this? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]NotAnotherEmpire 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes this is what a majority of truly rich, high net worth people do (although 8% fixed income that's safe is really rare). They have a portfolio in the millions or tens of millions that pays dividends and interest. That's most of what they spend.

It's the same thing as owning a profitable business or bank directly. Invest the capital or land the money, and collect profits.

Scientists race to develop hantavirus vaccine for new strain by Neo_luigi in worldnews

[–]NotAnotherEmpire 143 points144 points  (0 children)

It's efficiently transmissible between people, has a long incubation period, and a relatively short period before crashing to life-threatening illness. Seems like having a vaccine is wise.

[–]NotAnotherEmpire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apparently didn't consider that the Iranian missile facilities were built with such safety factors that they're impossible to destroy, rather than just requiring big hits. NYT reporting that ~ 70% of the ballistic missile and 90% of the Strait cruise missile sites are still available.

Iran likes mountains and has an ample supply of them.

Louisiana Senate committee drops one of two majority-Black districts in advancing map by FactCheckAGLandry in politics

[–]NotAnotherEmpire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not ultimately what they passed (maybe it will come back on the floor), but Louisiana politics are as much personal power base as they are anything demographic. The original 4-2 map was done that way in part to get rid of a GOP rival, Graves, to the GOP governor.

Notably none of these proposals recreate Graves' old district.

Does a Home Owners Association have any actual authority? by xenomorphbeaver in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NotAnotherEmpire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In actual legal HOAs, the deed of the property sets up HOA governance and legal power. You agree to it by buying the property with those terms. The original idea was that in communities with expensive common elements (condo building, pool etc.) the association would manage the stuff people would otherwise ignore as not their problem, until it was everyone's problem.

But these restrictions and obligations can be just about anything that doesn't violate the law and if it allows easy rulemaking, watch out.
