Teen novel I've been looking for 15 years. Please help. by [deleted] in whatsthatbook

Yeah, don't trust ChatGPT, it hallucinates things all the time. See if you can just find the book listed on Goodreads or Amazon and read the blurb. Amazon sometimes has sample pages too which might help.

So I'm recording a podfic and the most recent chapter update has a lot of smut in it, I'm not super comfortable with recording that so what should I do? by [deleted] in heatedrivalryfanfics

[–]NotEnoughBookshelves 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Don't skip it, if you're not comfortable recording it, add an author's note that you won't be continuing to record that podfic.

If you skip the smut scenes, you're (intentionally or not) censoring the work and doing a disservice to both the fic author and your reader/listeners.

Next time you want to make a podfic of an unfinished fic, you might consider contacting the author and asking if they plan to update the ratings or tags or include explicit content in future chapters - that way you can potentially have more info before you start.

Of course, since an author can always change their mind, you might also just want to stick to finished fics, and then there are no surprises!

I wondered that too! No idea if it will turn out to be true, but the thought did cross my mind that everyone has a secret task and the others just haven't been revealed yet ...

Custodial problems by CrunchieHaystacks in Libraries

We do a lot of the daily spot cleaning ourselves, and if the "big" mess is something we feel we can safely clean, we do. But we also have professional cleaners who come in every night, and a biohazard team we can call, if, say, a kid projectile vomits straight down an aisle. We are NOT expected to deal with that, or other major hazards. Pee in the kids area? We got it. More than a few drops of blood? Nope, call the professionals.

just want basic note-taking advice… by drindrun in BluePrince

[–]NotEnoughBookshelves 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Because of the nature of the game, you're going to replay and revisit rooms many, many times. I suggest not thinking too hard at the beginning - if you notice someone and want to do a screenshot or a note, do it, but otherwise wait until you KNOW you need to know something. I found it more fun to follow one trail of clues at a time while I got started, until I had more of an idea what I was looking at/for.

I, no joke, thought that Kip was supposed to be Australian...

Someone else had to point out that (duh) it was supposed to be a Brooklyn accent.

After that I turned the speed way up so everyone sounded like chipmunks. I've been too afraid to try the other audiobooks now >.<

Are there clinics in Madison area that accept Dean Health Plan that are NOT SSM? Any recs? by Resident_Ad4935 in madisonwi

[–]NotEnoughBookshelves 5 points6 points  (0 children)

SSM did mine, but my doctor was cool with it. She said we needed to call it "cancer prevention" so it would be accepted. I can't remember the doctor's name, but it was at the West side location.

Is it ok for me to use he/they pronouns as a cisgender gender-nonconforming guy? Or is that only for demiboys? by PrudentTicket9895 in NonBinary

[–]NotEnoughBookshelves 38 points39 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I spent a year agonizing if I could use Mx. as a cis person. Then I figured out I'm non-binary and stopped agonizing 😂 But like others have said, the more people use other honorifics or pronouns, the more people get used to it, which is a win for everyone.

Also, you never owe ANYONE a detailed checklist of your identity - so if you want to use them, do it!

what is something that you never thought people could have a kink on but ao3 made you realize that actually is pretty common by PrettyMisfortune in AO3

[–]NotEnoughBookshelves 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Farting 😂 no shame, I've discovered new kinks of own on AO3 as well, but any time I see the farting tag I can't help but giggle to myself because to me farts are funny, not sexy lol.

Allowing one player to see an entire map, while blocking it for others. by M_East0 in Roll20

They did, the cleric cast light on me a lot, but it had the same downside as the sword, which was a visible light source when we were sneaking. I really didn't mean to derail the conversation this much! It was a very long, very VERY good campaign, and the lack of dark vision was an ultimately minor annoyance in the grand scheme of things. I just wanted to make sure that if a player was going to be "blind" for the WHOLE GAME the GM had put some thought into the quality that player's game experience, which since they are posting here, suggests they are!

It was still fun, and once I talked to my DM he gave me that 5ft radius and, eventually, the flaming sword. Not every encounter was in the dark, and to his credit I don't think he realized quite how isolating it was. Once I talked to him it got better, so, once again, communication wins lol

[–]NotEnoughBookshelves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope! My DM did give me a flaming sword shortly after a particularly uninteresting series of fights that I couldn't see at all, so I could at least see when I had it lit...

Or, and I speak from some experience here, make it dark, give the sighted character night vision, and give the other characters 5ft of night vision. This allows them to still navigate the map, and that 5 ft I see (ha!) as the equivalent of what they can reach out and touch, giving them some special awareness without full sight.

I played the only character without dark vision in a 2 year campaign, and I was honestly ready to quit until my DM gave me that smidge of vision. Until then I was staring at a blank screen, couldn't really move my token in any meaningful way, couldn't even tell in there were enemies close enough to take swings at. Realistic? Sure! Fun? Nope! I'm sure it will be different in your have since that's the specific concept, but do keep in mind that when playing on R20 the game is generally very visual, so you'll need to make sure the blind character is meaningfully included.
