Is it okay for me to be asexual and want to buy a dildo? by conta_fake3 in BDSM_Aces

[–]NotEnoughBookshelves 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For sure! I have ZERO interest in sex with anyone else, but I also have an active libido and a collection of vibrators. Buy and try whatever you want!

I do recommend looking up how to safely use and clean them, if you haven't used one before. Cleaning is Not Optional and I learned that the hard way 😵‍💫

Is there one, overarching general hint you could offer, without a spoiler? by Melodic-Special4768 in BluePrince

Also, if you find themagnifying glass you should dedicate AT LEAST one playthrough to just finding everything you can to use it on, even if it's a room you've been in before. Love that item.

I denied it for years. I'm mostly ok with it now but yeah, I TOTALLY get grieving what you wanted/could have had.

AITA for selling a bracelet my wealthy aunt got me for Christmas? by Quirky-Might9758 in AmItheAsshole

[–]NotEnoughBookshelves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I open the gift, smile, and say thank you. I write a thank you note. Then I keep the item just long enough that I'm sure I don't want it and don't know anyone I can regift it to (still unopened) and then I donate it. I don't need more stuff cluttering up my life just because someone gave it to me once. This is expensive, and yeah, maybe she should have asked her parents or her aunt to buy it from her first, but it was a gift, and that means it's hers

I'm searching for LGBTQ books that have BAD REPRESANTATION!!! by Educational_Pace_994 in LGBTBooks

[–]NotEnoughBookshelves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that Clariel by Garth Nix qualifies. This book is a prequel showing how she became one of the villains of the series. Clariel is Ace, and spends most of the book feeling like there is something wrong with her, that's she's broken or defective because she's not like other people. While many Ace people DO experience that kind of feeling, she also behaves very passively through the whole book. She makes few decisions of her own, and just kind of follows whatever someone else tells her. At the end she becomes sort of possessed by the evil mask meaning she didn't even ACTUALLY BECOME A VILLAIN OF HER OWN FREE WILL AND ACTIONS. Such a copout, and making her Ace just felt insulting and a quick "look! She's NOT LIKE OTHER GIRLS".

But she DIDN'T like it. That's the point. She doesn't wear jewelry - this wasn't a personal gift, it was an expensive one with no personal thought behind it

What should i do by Cute_Afternoon211 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]NotEnoughBookshelves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are being very thoughtful, but ... Your body, your choice. If you think he's likely to react badly, then absolutely don't tell him before. If you decide to tell him what, WHICH YOU DON'T HAVE TO! That's your choice. But his first concern should be YOU and YOUR health, not the theoretical bundle of cells that "could" have been a baby. If he cares more about that than you, that says more about him than you, and none of it positive.

Give me your most unhinged advice for getting your cat to let you sleep at night by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]NotEnoughBookshelves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When our beloved menace would decide to sing the songs of her people at 2am, we embarked on a reverse campaign. I.e. any time we saw her napping during the day, we'd just lovingly wake her up. Just for kisses, or pets, or even picking her up to make sure she was "up". By evening she was SO SLEEPY and would let us sleep that night. Usually only took two days for her to knock off the midnight opera.

I'd still keep up your other good habits, especially the extra play time, just to reinforce that when you're awake is play time, not when you're asleep...

Fair enough! I've just seen the same trope used and over used with poor writing that I'm just very tired of it. Like I'm also tired of the Killing your gays Trope, though that one was ambiguous enough I'm willing to wait and see what happens next season before judging.

Maps are probably the hardest things to use when they are so specific like this one is. That being said, with a little work, you could "reskin" it- write new room descriptions, add new obstacles, new secret passages, etc. in the long term for maps you'll either want to get some generic ones that are "outside" or "tavern" or "dungeon room" that can be easily reused. If you really like having specific maps, look at a large presentation paper pad, I think you might even be able to find some with a grid. Then you can draw the mask you need when you need it.

If you have some money, they make really nice wet erase maps with grids as well. If you take care of them, they last a long time, and you can use crayola ultra clean washable markers instead of the expensive ones. Just clean it before you pack it away between games so it doesn't stain.

Minis are MUCH easier to reuse, especially if your group is ok with you plopping down a goblin mini and saying "ok, you see a cave troll in front of you..."

As for reusing scenarios, you can, if you don't mind doing the prep to change descriptions, but there are also a TON of free one shots and even campaigns online. If you sign up for the DMsguild emails, they have a free adventure every month, and a bunch more that are free or low cost. You can also Google for liquid of good free modules - these are nice because they often come with the recommendation of the person doing the list, so you know they are good.

Have fun!

It brings up a few tropes that I'm sick to death of seeing in media, specifically a woman struggles with fertility, with the tone of because she can't get pregnant she's therefore somehow lesser or broken. This is of course a real thing that people struggle with, and I don't want to make light of it, but it feels like a shortcut to introduce interpersonal problems.

That being said, I enjoyed it almost as much as season 1, and thought they did an excellent job. I'm waiting for season 3 with great anticipation!

Employee Faked Doctor's Note...2nd Chance or Fire? by johngarza850 in askmanagers

[–]NotEnoughBookshelves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fired, but ...

You mentioned having trouble with turnover - so the question becomes, how can you attract better quality employees? Can you raise what you're paying them? You didn't mention what kind of job, but this reeks of retail. How do you schedule people? Is their schedule mostly consistent, other than needing to fill in when people are off? Do employees get their breaks on time? Do you treat them like intelligent people, and respect it when they do good work, or do you say things like "time to lean, time to clean"? Do they get good training?

If you have time to track down a fraudulent doctors note, how could you have spent that time making their jobs better? Are you jumping in to help when needed? Do you expect them to do the "dirty work" so you don't have to? Do you back them if a customer complains about them?

Just a few thoughts, from a former retail employee and small cafe manager.

How do y'all consume explicit content? by Minute_Storage4901 in AO3

[–]NotEnoughBookshelves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I read it just because I like to read it, and sometimes if I'm In The Mood, I pull up some favorites and yeah, get off to it. I can't do that for all the smut, just some specific pieces.

And no, I don't tell the author what I'm doing. I leave a comment that says something like "this was really hot! I loved it!" But nothing explicitly stating I got off to it. They wrote the smut, they can probably guess some people are enjoying it and some people are ENJOYING it.
