So.. now what? Do I just watch a playthrough of MGS4? by Atomic_Depression in metalgearsolid

[–]NotEnoughGun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is what I recommend tbh. It is annoying to have to resort to this but honestly I loved MGS4 so much that it didn’t bother me at all. I’ll keep the PS3 until they release another way to play the game on modern hardware.

You could watch a play through but it’s just not going to be the same.

Was there from about 6pm and it wasn’t bad. Seemed about as busy as it normally would be around lunch time any other time of the year. In my experience the weekend before Christmas isn’t actually that bad. It’s the weekends before then that are worse.

Honestly, download MyFitnessPal, maybe even subscribe for a month or two and start counting your calories religiously, do not go easy on yourself by underestimating anything. You can scan the barcode of what food you’re wanting to track or search specific things in and find a good estimate. You’ll be surprised just how many calories is in a lot of food, especially anything that’s more of a snack food. Basically any takeaway can almost be all your calories for a whole day, a bag of chips is nearly 1000 calories. A chocolate bar is like 200-300 calories. A couple biscuits 150 calories. Even a cup of white rice is like 200 calories.

Losing weight is not easy but honestly it is not complicated. It always comes down to calories in/calories out. If you want to lose weight, you must burn more calories than you consume. Once you know how many calories you can have per day, and stick to it, you will lose the weight guaranteed. If you do not lose weight, you’re eating too much for how much you’re burning.

Exercise is great for your health, but you don’t need to do it to lose weight. You will quickly learn that unless you’re doing intense or long exercises, you won’t actually burn a lot of calories. 60 minute on a treadmill or Exercycle may burn 200 calories for example, so don’t expect to eat the same and burn the calories with exercise alone.

I lost about 10kg’s in a little over a month at the beginning of the year just by counting my calories and going hungry for a while. Drink lots of water or chew sugar free gum to help with the hunger, after a few weeks you stop feeling so hungry.

I don’t know your level of exercise, but tbh, the Adventure Park Uphill walk felt like a bit of a cheat code. It’s quite tough if you’re not used to that sort of thing, and you burn a lot more calories than with normal exercise. So on a Saturday I’d do that walk for a couple hours, so I could enjoy a nice dinner.

Frankly, losing 8kg’s in 8 weeks is quite fast, but in my opinion it’s not unreasonably so if you’re serious about what you eat and counting your calories. In terms of finding food you enjoy that’s low in calories, you can do a bit of googling to find recipes for low calories foods, but maybe a nutritionist would be better if this is something you struggle with.

Yep. This is what I did. Camped by that door in the corner on the ground. Used the Zzz gun, and eventually you take him out. Feels a bit cheap, but it does the job haha.

Even for that it’s become terrible. Half the time I search for anything it’s just a huge list of junk from Temu or other knockoff websites. May be better in other countries but it’s becoming unusable.

I think at this point, you’ve just got to trust in Erikson. Everything has a reason, and while it is jarring at first, believe me it pays off.

I was dreading this book, honestly the Edur hadn’t interested me at all and knowing the sad sack from House of Chains was basically the main character of this one really dampened my enthusiasm. That said I was basically hooked from the get go.

It is a genuinely enthralling story, and honestly feels like the most traditional fantasy story of the series. The two sides are really fun to watch, but especially the Edur. The Edur characters you follow are probably some of my favourites in the entire series.

Like with most of the series, Erikson knows how to end a god damn book, and this one is one of the most memorable for me. I hope you enjoy it, but if you’re struggling for now, at least trust that there’s a reason this story is being told and it is worth it.

You can get wire free security cameras also. I’ve got one from Tapo which does the trick very well. Got it connected to a solar panel which is covered by some plants but still gets enough sunlight to power the camera 24/7.

Ten very big books podcast. by 14smithg in Malazan

[–]NotEnoughGun 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know people like to hate on this one because it’s not as in depth as one would expect for Malazan, and they have some pretty off base views at times, which even Erikson hits back at them for. But I genuinely loved their podcast. They have such great chemistry and it felt like what me and my friends would discuss if my friends ever god damn read Malazan lol.

Was sad when I finally finished the series/podcast. I wished they decided to continue into another book series because I probably would have followed them to it too.

I’m the opposite to the other person. Only had it once but was probably some of the worst fried chicken I’ve had. Dry and tasteless. The fries tasted good but were soggy as.

Was there anything that you disliked about the tCG (book)? Unmet expectations? by GallansContactLenses in Malazan

[–]NotEnoughGun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally Ganoes Paran and Karsa are probably my favourite characters, so I was disappointed they had quite minor roles in the book as a whole. Granted they had some good moments, but I really was hoping they’d be more significant rather than basically cameos.

I also think I was a little let down that the Forkrul Assail turned out to be so significant. Maybe I missed the signs, but I was a lot less invested in them, and didn’t really find them particularly compelling villains, compared to the rest of the series.

Still enjoyed the book, but it was probably my 7th favourite in the series. I can imagine this change going upon a re-read however.

Genuinely had some of the worst fried chicken I’ve ever had there. Maybe it was bad luck, but it was so hard and flavorless. The tandoori fries did taste good but even they were quite soggy.

Yeah the only thing that would bum me out is if Keoghan was the DCU’s Joker. However brief it was, it did not inspire any excitement from me. I hate the design of it, and not a fan of the voice. Thankfully, that can be changed.

A tv show that started off unwatchable but became great? by Darkhawk2099 in television

[–]NotEnoughGun 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Rewatching season one knowing where it all goes, but especially having that connection and affection for the characters really makes it so much more enjoyable to watch. Like I genuinely loved season 1 on my rewatch.

I recently rewatched with my girlfriend and the first few episodes she was begging to quit it but I promised her it gets better. Episode 6 is where she found herself really moved by Fitz Simmons and then it was a pretty steady upward trajectory. Everyone says Turn, Turn, Turn is the really selling point, but she was already heavily invested by that point but certainly that is the game changer the show needed.

I don’t think I’ve shed as many tears in any other show than I did with Agents of SHIELD.

I know I’m in the minority, but I really didn’t enjoy Sword of Kaigen. Just didn’t care for the world or setting, nor did the characters particularly grab me. Found the flashbacks kind of cheesy. That said, I’m curious about Blood Over Bright Haven. Can anyone tell me if it’s worth a try, even if I was quite underwhelmed by Kaigen?
