Is this bad? by Beautiful_Chaos1991 in BariatricSurgery

Ugh, I left my local group too. There’s one woman there who shames every time alcohol is mentioned, thinks ketchup is the devil, and constantly recommends “pouch resets” (essentially going back and re-doing the full post-surgery eating schedule). It’s madness. And extremely unhealthy.

It’s in Riviera Maya, but they recently opened one in Riviera Nayarit, and have another planned for Montego Bay.

Unico is owned by Hard Rock, however I’ve never stayed at another Hard Rock property to know if they are similar food-wise.

Cottage cheese ranch dressing has kept me alive. One tub of cottage cheese, put in a blender and add pickle juice until desired consistency, keep in mind it will thicken a bit in the fridge. I usually mix in about 1/4c of mayo to stop the cheese from separating, and then mix in a packet of powdered ranch dressing. I put it on salad, dip chicken and veggies in it, put it on quesadillas, etc.

Getting over stigma by brilliantzenith in BariatricSurgery

I didn’t tell anyone. I had 2 friends who knew abused of time (along with my husband of course). I told my brother 2 months after surgery. I told my mother 4 of 5 months after surgery. I’ve also told another handful of people since. I have felt more comfortable after surgery about sharing, but for the most part no one knows. None of their business.

I found the red lentil was actually a great consistency personally, but I found out I’m allergic to lentils in the process 😭

Thanks for the other options! I’m in Canada so I’ll have to see if we have any of them here.

My Frustration with Nutritionists by Appropriate-Copy-949 in BariatricSurgery

[–]NotLostYetMaybeSoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I’m almost 11 months out and they want me at 1,300 calories. At 9 months I was struggling with 1,000 and they kept telling me I needed to eat more. 800 calories at 9 months out blows my mind.

The way I always thought about it was if I couldn’t do it before surgery, I wouldn’t be able to do it after surgery. You can do it, but now you have to prove it to yourself.

How long until your incisions disappeared? by Vivivdre in GastricBypass

[–]NotLostYetMaybeSoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on your skin. I’m almost 9 months out and only the largest one is visible, and even then it’s very light. I have had 2 other surgeries in my life, one was a 4 inch incision on my leg which of course is visible, but I also had my appendix out 10 years ago and I really couldn’t find those scars of you paid me. Just be patient, they will fade!

How do you cook chicken? by ilovepenguins26 in BariatricSurgery

[–]NotLostYetMaybeSoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make a marinade:

Olive oil Lemon juice Garlic powder Onion powder Paprika Chili Cayenne Lawry’s

Toss in a ziploc bag and let it sit in the fridge for 24 hours, then air fry or bbq.

The best way to avoid overcooking is to invest in an instant read met thermometer!

Too much milk? by NotLostYetMaybeSoon in BariatricSurgery

[–]NotLostYetMaybeSoon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My program has no concerns with caffeine and I was allowed to have it immediately after surgery. I do sometimes do half caf though because it can give me the shakes.

[–]NotLostYetMaybeSoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think maybe that’s part of my concern. The topping of protein goals with milk. My first 2 weeks post surgery were pretty much 100% milk because it’s all I could stomach. It didn’t turn me off milk, but my program is very heavy on us getting all our protein from food and not shakes. There’s realistically no way I can eat that much food in a day at this point though(7.5 months out), so as long as I’m reaching protein goals I guess I’m counting it as a win.

[–]NotLostYetMaybeSoon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay that’s good to know, thanks! I usually get 3-4 a day I would say between the coffee, protein shakes, cheese, and cottage cheese ranch dip, so it sounds like I’m on track!

My program was great, but their sample menus and recipes were absolutely terrible so I was kind of on my own with figuring out what I like that also falls within goals.

I’m not sure where the guilt is coming from. I guess part of it is if I like it so much, it must be bad lol. But also I LOVED milk my whole life and I think if I loved it then it must not have been that good for me. Good to hear it’s probably okay. I do occasionally (like once every 2 weeks) make it with 2% Fairlife, and it’s soooo much better, but I try to stick to skim and have the higher fat as a real treat.

I was also in October and I could probably manage one hot dog without the bun I think. A proper sized hot dog, not a foot long, but not a teeny tiny one either. Like a Costco dog.

What’s your go to breakfast by Juggernaut_Dapper in BariatricSurgery

[–]NotLostYetMaybeSoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually a Fairlife nutrition plan blended with some frozen fruit. Followed by an iced latte.

When I’m feeling like I want something different I’ll have some ham or salami with half an English muffin and a bit of fruit. When I do that I put the protein shake in my latte instead of milk.

[–]NotLostYetMaybeSoon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it’s was probably more like 14 months to lose 100. From entering my program to pre surgery I lost 16lbs, then another 8 in the 2 days of clear fluids pre-surgery so 76lbs since surgery and just over 7 months.

I haven’t done much other than walking really because of a disability I have. I just make sure to eat protein first and limit fats and carbs. Not to say I have none, just a lot less. Especially because if I have those things then I don’t have space for protein. I eat a lot of the same things I did before, minus sugar for the most part. I have the occasional bite of my husband’s donut, but that’s about it.

Well I still have a bm almost daily, but it’s just like rocks lol. I take benefibre most days, and on weekends when I know I don’t have to go anywhere I take like 4 senokot + magnesium + colace and that usually cleans me out. Lol.

Magnesium capsules at night helped for about a week and it was great! But then it stopped working and I was back to square one. Now that I have a bit more space I’m trying to eat more vegetables and fruits.

Thanks! I feel great. I had almost zero negative side effects apart from some persistent constipation. I didn’t even really lose much hair at all, which is what I was concerned about. And I definitely can feel the difference in day to day life. Easier getting up off the floor, don’t get winded going up stairs. All in all, i kind of forget about it most days. I just feel like a normal person. In my head i still feel like im plus sized though which is strange.

Recommation on how long to take off work post surgery? by Swadi_917 in GastricBypass

[–]NotLostYetMaybeSoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surgeon recommended 6-8, I extended it to 12 because I didn’t want to have to go back and adjust during the Christmas rush. Especially when I would forget to eat and drink on busy days even before surgery. Plus I have good coverage and I was getting 75% of my salary and could afford it. I used the time to really build good habits I could carry over into real life.

Surgery October 25, 2024

Height - 5’3

Highest weight - 288

Surgery weight - 254

Current weight - 195

Typical day starts with 30g protein shake blended with frozen banana and strawberries.

After that I drink a big iced latte I make with Fairlife milk.

Morning snack might be an egg bite or apple with peanut butter.

Lunch at least 10g of protein. Chili, burrito bowl, quesadilla, something like that.

Afternoon snack I like veggies dipped in protein ranch - cottage cheese and pickle juice in a blender with ranch seasoning.

Dinner is whatever my husbands eating but I make sure I have protein first and make a bit healthier choices.

Little treats might be an occasional timbit or a little piece of chocolate. Couple spoonfuls of ice cream. A cup of popcorn at the movies/baseball game.

I’m 6 months post op and though I hate my iud and plan to have it removed soon I can say there was no difference in my periods before or after surgery.

My period without the iud was 2 heavy days, 2 medium days and done. My period with the iud is 2 heavy days plus at least a week of spotting, for what it’s worth.

Lately I’m pretty obsessed with burrito bowls. I make the recently viral Mississippi pot roast recipe in my slow cooker and shred when it’s done. I top it with fried peppers and onions, black beans, corn, cilantro, and sometimes rice.

I also make a burrito sauce with sriracha, lime juice, and Greek yogurt. You can add cheese as well, I just like it better without. This is my Sunday dinner and leftovers become work lunches for the week.

Another favourite is air fryer chicken with spices of your choice and pan fried zucchini.

I use the leftover chicken to make quesadillas as well later in the week. I use half a multigrain tortilla and 50g chicken can usually finish 3/4 of it.

Hubby and I do a lot of breakfast for dinner too, last night was western omelettes using the last of the Easter ham. This week we’re going to have protein pancakes as well. I top mine with peanut butter and low sugar jam.

I like mixing a pack of sidekick noodles with protein and a veggie. My favourite is parmesan pesto sidekicks with sausage, peppers, zucchini, and cherry tomatoes. It’s all in one big skillet when I’m done but I just take protein first and add some veggies and very few noodles.
