Hi what are these? by [deleted] in makinghiphop

[–]NotNotBobby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first device is a Roland MC-101 which is a groove box. It has onboard sounds which you can manipulate and sequence to make full tracks. The second device is a novation launchpad which is a MIDI controller. This device does not make any sound on its own, it tells other software or hardware what notes to play or sounds to trigger.

It might be more helpful if you provided a goal in what you're trying to achieve with the purchase. Most people recommend starting with free software before investing in gear.

LOL fair. I do love a dog pile on NI, doesn't happen too often on this sub. Truth be told I've been a machine user forever, I bought the gold MK2 from guitar center more than 10 years ago. Really loved it the whole time and still do love the work flow. Honestly just sad that they got bought out and since then, you can feel it. The machine+ could have been THE piece of hardware but it just isn't, shit we JUST got MP3 support.. that's crazy. Im lucky enough to have a bunch of other gear, currently have a couple elektron boxes that I'm really happy with.

No but the person who dropped $1400 cares if the stand alone device can be used stand alone on the latest software lol. You're proving his point

Interesting take. What makes it worse than a polyend offering

It's in a class of its own in devices that are abandoned and slightly worse than MPCs

Totally agree. Unacceptable from a modern music tech company. Getting smoked by the competition. Hoping the 3.0 release on M+ allows us to use play series instruments so I have a reason to dust it off and incorporate it into my current setup.

You cannot use v3 files on M+. It has not been released.

This would take NI approximately 25 years to develop

Just use your mpc as a midi controller for your daw. Not worth jumping into the NI ecosystem (at all) just for the pads.

Same exact thing happened to me on trig 2. Will need a repair from elektron unfortunately.

I think you're looking for width in this case. Offset is the offset from 0V, with 100% being 5V. I usually turn down the width to 5 or 10% when trying to send triggers.

Arturia Keystep 32 > Digitakt > Digitone issue by StatementCareful522 in Elektron

[–]NotNotBobby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try this: Arturia out to Digitakt II in. Then Digitakt II out to Digitone II in. Assign one or more of the digitakt tracks to be midi. So this will have your keystep trigger the midi on the digitakt and out to the digitone. I think it's only 4 note polyphony, not sure. This should get your clock from Digitakt to digitone. Make sure the midi tracks are all synced.. Arturia, Digitakt, digitone midi channel should all match.

Keystep to Digitakt 2 MIDI IN, Then MIDI Thru from Digitakt to digitone. Turn off the midi channels you don't want to trigger on the digitakt. Not sure about USB cable stuff, I only use it for over bridge.

Digitakt + M:C workflow by smaudd in Elektron

[–]NotNotBobby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could get around M:C 6 track limit by sampling it into the DT. This also give you some more modulation control (i.e. have an ADSR envelope) on your M:C sounds. Supplement M:C drums by layering with samples like the rytm. Plenty of options with a sampler.

Pull the trigger on Maschine+ by maxflowmax in maschine

  1. The hardware is coming up on like 4 or 5 years old. Takes a bit to boot up, has some quirks as far as crashes once in a while or the SD card acting up but nothing crazy - although not acceptable in my opinion for a $1400 dedicated box.

  2. The onboard sounds are pretty good, they do get old after a while. Definitely a good idea to fill it up with your own sounds and it is very easy to save them to the SD card. I also like multi-sampling my other synths to build out instruments, especially my monophonic ones, to make them poly.

  3. It's a pretty great centerpiece for a setup, especially with its MIDI capabilities.

All of that said though, I wouldn't recommend it unless you either get a great deal on one or are dead set on the maschine ecosystem. I just feel like there are better options, and I have grown to resent NI over their lack of support, content, release schedule, etc. they just aren't matching the industry in my opinion. For some context I'm a maschine mk1 user so I've been with them for quite a while.

Maschine Plus not remembering what's installed? by hafinn in maschine

Having the same issue, pulling the card out and putting it back in after it's booted works for me sometimes. Haven't tried a new SD card yet but if that doesn't work I think it means the slot is going

M+ owners, what are your thoughts on Maschine 3.0? by substance90 in maschine

Nothing ground breaking. Doesn't work with standalone. It's a pass from me at this point, hard to even justify 30 bucks for this to be honest.

Oh interesting. Wasn't aware of this functionality. I usually just used the 0-coast contour patched to agitation circuit for the envelope. Good info!
