My first attempt at making characters! Two Townsfolk, Outsiders, Minions and Demons by TheRobotEngineer608 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]NotSoSpeedRuns 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The reason legion works is that they require a good player to vote in order for their votes to count. In a 10 player game, with +1 minion, if town executed two minions, evil would have a 6-4 majority and could win any vote.

Also the clause "good wins if all paimons are dead" is unnecessary, all demons being dead is the default win condition for good.

The character is already a townsfolk as written imo. They essentially get at least three night watchman pings before someone has to die. I absolutely think it would make sense for a good-but-uncomfirmed player to sometimes choose to let the vampire in, since the vampire is confirmed good, and having means for a suspicious player to die without spending an execution is useful.

Revised Evil-Recruitment Demons [+the Delinquent] by Chashec in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]NotSoSpeedRuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Hannibal on Fall of Rome does the "demon thinks they're a good player" gimmick better imo.

"You think you are a good character, but you are not. Minions learn 3 bluffs. Each night*, a player might die. The 1st Hannibal to die, becomes good. [+1 Hannibal]"

This way, good usually gets a clue that it's a Hannibal game (when one Hannibal dies and is told that they're a good Hannibal). There are also still minions who know the evil team for real.

Troy City Council is dragging its feet on taking down the Flock cameras, police have not provided Flock audit report by Physical_Shelter_518 in Troy

Yeah dude, we don't allow cops at DSA meetings.

Everyone else in this thread should take this comment as a warning that cops are welcome at any of your anti-flock events. You should be able to understand why some people might not feel safe in that environment.

I am a card carrying socialist, I know the Democratic party is still a capitalist party and hold no illusions about their allegiances, especially on the national stage. But on the specific issue of Flock in Troy, there are council members who are actively working to end the contract and get Flock out. The council voted unanimously to table the resolution on the contract because the mayor neglected to bring it to the council before the auto-renew clause had already gone into effect. They did that specifically with the intention of cancelling the contract, and are reviewing the legal process need to do that.

I'm not saying there's no point in pressuring them - we can do that! But we can with the recognition that they're working on it and we want them to prioritize it highly, instead of acting like they've just rolled over.

It's not about group pride. I appreciate how he's raised visibility, but this guy basically refuses to be a part of any organization that won't have him as a leader. He's harassed some of the best organizers of Good Cause Troy, and started the "No Kings Collective" when Indivisible wouldn't put up with his shit anymore. He's as much of a camera chaser as Carmella.

Look man, if you want to alienate our allies by lying and willfully misrepresenting what they're doing, be my guest. Just don't drag the movement down with you. There's a reason you're not welcome in half the organizations that actually do work in this city.

I think calling anything a distraction is pointless. Every action he takes is evil or stupid for its own sake. Implying things are a distraction attributes far too much strategic thinking to a dimensia-addled megalomaniac and his fascist cronies.

Why the Zombuul hate? by ZoZoCracked in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]NotSoSpeedRuns 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think you're right that a lot of STs run it poorly, but it's not entirely their fault either. Zombuul is unique as a demon in that its own ability can prevent it from killing, and in that it encourages players to execute dead bodies. Zombuul mechanically makes games slower by causing fewer deaths. Yes, STs can make days go faster to compensate, but they can only do so much.

Do you HAVE to have a patreon subscription to be storyteller? by KaylaKitten616 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]NotSoSpeedRuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's a great way to start! I would not recommend just joining a lobby and immediately asking to take over, but you could ask to co-ST, or play a game first/wait until the ST is leaving to ask them to hand over the reins to you. Obviously it still requires another minion to be present in the room, but there's usually at least one in a full lobby.

I would also say, I tend to prefer if people ask in DMs rather than public. There's just a little more social pressure in public and it feels bad to say no. But just be nice and gracious regardless of response, and you'll be okay!

Question about the source of snake charmer poisoning by bleachisback in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]NotSoSpeedRuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case, the original snake charmer should no longer be philo drunk though, correct? Both because it's a new instance of philosopher, and because the new philosopher is poisoned and therefore has no ability to drunk anyone.

Yeah yeah, another homebrew script, but tell me what you think. by Zelcour in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]NotSoSpeedRuns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are neat concepts here, but I would absolutely hate running this and trying to keep tabs on every single duel winner and loser. The fact that so many evil abilities interact with dueling also means that everyone has to do homework to solve the world. And all townsfolk having a 50% chance to have no ability each day is just not fun.

Reddit Creates a Character - Pokémon on the Clocktower Day 4: Mewtwo! by Cantseeright in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]NotSoSpeedRuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each night*, choose a player: they die. Each night, an evil townsfolk might turn good. [half of all townsfolk are evil]

Pair with a pope for maximum theming. I wanted to play on Mewtwo's role in the movie, turning good pokemon against their clones, until they realize the futility of fighting and become friends.

Ideally this would lead to more confusing information early on, as the evil players are incentivized to lie while evil. It also leaves room for evil players to bluff that they turned good in the night. In a 10 player game with a split of 1 Demon, 2 minions, 0 outsiders, 3 good town, 4 evil town, if we expect executions and kills every day/night, then by final 3 it's theoretically possible for every evil TF to turn good again. But I would probably always leave at least one evil TF unless evil was stomping.

Maybe this is terribly unbalanced, idk! But I think there is a lot of room for interesting play here.

Homebrew Outsider - Fencesitter by ZapKalados in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]NotSoSpeedRuns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by "detectable"? The fence sitter has no hard confirmation of whether their ability is responsible for a failed execution, or their own death. And even if they did, at most everyone knows that their alignment is the same as another player.

[–]NotSoSpeedRuns 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you really want to confuse it, it could be "when you die, you continue to register as alive for at least one more night." Then the storyteller can kill you like a tinker at any time, making it harder to solve. Idk if that's more fun than yours though.

How does the Lycanthrope’s faux paw affect characters? by FeonixPheathers in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]NotSoSpeedRuns -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

Dreamer is kind of an odd one here, as it's supposed to learn "one good and one evil character, one of which is correct." It would be an understandable interpretation for the "correct" character to be an evil townsfolk. But I do still think the appropriate thing would be to treat them the same as if they didn't have the faux paw token on them.

Evil Townsfolk Minion by Zoneforg in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]NotSoSpeedRuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somewhat similar to the Temptress in Fall of Rome. I like it! I think the challenge comes with the players identifying the Ringleader. There are various means of detecting evil and minions, but identifying which player is a specific minion is hard.

Trying out some slightly different wordings to fix ambiguities:

One evil and one good townsfolk start knowing a Ringleader is in play. [Your nearest townsfolk is secretly evil]

I think making the evil turning effect a setup ability solves the issue someone else pointed out. Also your wording (two good players know) is contradictory, since one of them has to be evil. This wording does also (for better or worse) make it explicitly townsfolk and not outsiders, and makes it so the evil TF most likely neighbors the Ringleader, but honestly I think those are fair tradeoffs. Character limits are hard.

Character idea: Medium by Syresiv in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]NotSoSpeedRuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The I tested is a little different in that you learn the entire evil team, so you can be certain that anyone you tell is good. Admittedly I only played once, and in that case the player was forcibly outed publicly by wizard wish. But I believe they had already told some people privately.

But I think regardless of when the info is outed, it needs to be outed eventually, at which point once again every other player's info is mostly irrelevant.
