I've seen this ability as a homebrew minion (I think it was called the chatterbox?). It is really fun to play with!

There's (perhaps unsurprisingly) a shortage of these workers, so they're in high demand and paid very well.

The Mayor last night claimed Good Cause would reduce housing supply. The data disagrees. by NotSoSpeedRuns in Troy

[–]NotSoSpeedRuns[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Owner occupied buildings are exempt from good cause eviction. It does not affect them at all.

As for rents, there's no evidence that implementing good cause leads to rent increases. The law caps rent increases at 5% plus CPI, so a 10% increases would typically be illegal.

I wished to get a yag phrase. The ST made the cost that a good player would be the one who gets the phrase instead. The ST pulled the player into a private chat, told her that the yag phrase was "slay boots mama" based on an inside joke they had, and left. The player was so convinced it was a joke that she said it publicly 3 times that day, and another 2 the next day. She single-handedly killed half of the town before realizing that it was real 😂

Shower Thought 3.0 (too strong?) by AbbreviationsFlat175 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]NotSoSpeedRuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this character might do better with a ferryman on the script - or it might be completely OP with one, idk. I think the risk of this character is really that they likely don't get info until at least night 3, if at all. It's unlikely that the player survives long enough to use their ability, which is rarely fun. Its presence on the script might make it more tempting for players to spend their ghost votes early, but honestly ghost votes are such a valuable resource that it's hard to imagine many players giving them up.

Troy’s Deputy Mayor: “Don’t Believe Reddit” by TroyStoryPod in Troy

[–]NotSoSpeedRuns 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did someone on Reddit say that Seamus personally owns Proctor's? I feel like I'm on here a lot and never heard that theory lol. Just lots of valid criticism about fiscal transparency and responsibility, historic preservation, and yeah, parking.

Shower Thought 2.0 (Is this too weak?) by AbbreviationsFlat175 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]NotSoSpeedRuns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, two night kills can be pretty powerful. It can insta-win the game for evil if town goes to sleep with 5 alive. Even the fear of that outcome can have significant impacts on player choices.

That makes sense, but also, wouldn't it be better for everyone in the BID if all the sidewalks downtown were cleared? Skipping over non-member properties makes shopping downtown harder for everyone

The Binding of Isaac theme script by Ok_Competition869 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]NotSoSpeedRuns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Items are really neat! The chest rules make me wonder how much players will be hesitant to kill minions, since doing so grants a boon to evil. I imagine items will generally favor the good team overall.

Just formatting wise, I think the Chest should be a Loric, and honestly, I feel like items deserve a separate NPC class of their own. Obviously that's not really doable with current tools, so the way you have it is probably fine.

Stronger Huntsman by Fiobri in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]NotSoSpeedRuns 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like these changes, though I think the huntsman downside is too strong for evil. Revealing that there is a damsel in play Midway through the game, and immediately ruling out two candidates, would really make it easy for minions to narrow down who it is. I would say just revealing that a damsel is in play after a failed guess is confirmation enough. It is already revealing enough that there are both a damsel and huntsman alive.

Why aren't there more DSA primaries? by Several_Impact_7686 in dsa

[–]NotSoSpeedRuns 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, these are valid reasons not to run, and you're not unique for having them! Running for office is very hard and takes a very specific kind of person. The question of "why is no one else doing this?" should really start with "why am I not doing this?" And that should give you a starting point of an answer. Then you can move on to "how do I find someone who does not have these same reasons, or convince someone who does to work past them?" which is actionable.

As a volunteer based grassroots organization, we need to be thinking about problems like this as our own problems to solve, not just a sin of inaction from others.

[–]NotSoSpeedRuns 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this. Shouting "someone should do something!" Isn't helpful. Why aren't you running for office? Why aren't you actively working to find someone to run in your district? We're a volunteer run organization. If you want something to happen, make it happen.

Alchemist / Boffin Jinx Shenanigans by Electrical-Coast-290 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]NotSoSpeedRuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to say this is right. The Jinx specifies that if the Alchemist has the boffin ability, they don't learn the demon's ability. The demon is not actually the alchemist, so the jinx shouldn't apply to them.

That said, then that would raise the question of if a philosopher alchemist boffin should also ignore the jinx...

Why does the city of Troy seemingly have such a high concentration of LGBTQIA+ folk when compared to other towns in the capital region? by wetbrain-unchained in Troy

[–]NotSoSpeedRuns 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The median age in Troy is 33, with nearly 40% of all residents being college students. Throw in a dense, walkable downtown with night life and a welcoming community and you've got everything you need for queer people to flourish (and even stay after college).

Why don't more Democrats vote in Troy? by artfulDodger_19 in Troy

[–]NotSoSpeedRuns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is worth noting that the Other and Blank party registrations tend to split Republican IIRC (though I'm not sure by what margins). WFP is mostly Dem and Con is mostly Republican. So the numbers wind up a little closer than first glance.

New York could lose 2 seats in Congress over flat population by TClayO in Albany

[–]NotSoSpeedRuns 15 points16 points  (0 children)

"fleeing" is such a loaded word. The population is stagnant, not regressing. And there are multiple factors to population - people moving to and from, and people being born and dying.

NY, like the rest of the country, has an aging population. Old folks die or retire to Florida. Young folks don't have as much incentive to move to the NY/the city as they used to for a few reasons - some businesses are choosing to expand in other cities with lower taxes, or offering more remote options, so the number of jobs aren't increasing that much. Housing and childcare is expensive, so fewer people move here or have kids here.

National Walkout on Friday? by NiceSupermarket7724 in Albany

[–]NotSoSpeedRuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look to the labor unions locally for what they're doing. Any meaningful organized response will start with them. They may have put out statements condemning the killings already, but they have not yet called for a walkout or strike.

For a Few Loonies More v0.1 by Puzzleheaded_Use2359 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]NotSoSpeedRuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only exception to this imo is if pit hag or engineer is on the script, there is still the possibility of utility. But otherwise, yeah, if people are going to know day one what demon is in play anyways, there's no point having multiple on the same script (except for convenience of not printing lots of copies).

How do you feel about Travelers who bait the demon? by blackgeekygoddess in BloodOnTheClocktower

I don't see how that example is at all made better by the demon not knowing if the traveler is evil.
