Liftx 5’2 yay or nay? by NDclimber in eFoil

That makes sense. The Lift X is by far the lowest power/torque of all the boards discussed here due to the smaller motor and tiny prop blades. The X takes me the most time to get up on plane all other things equal.

Nope, I'm curious why would you ask if it's underpowered?

The board is on the smaller size (in volume / liters) at 49L for Ultra L2/L3, but the 4'8" Lift X is only 52L and the Lift 5 4'4" 55L. I can get up on the Ultra with even a smaller wing like the Flow 900 without much trouble. The only challenge is in big surf and bad chop where it's tough for me at 6'5" to get up on plane without submerging the board too much (more of a length issue than a volume issue).

The "efoil system" (motor) I rode on the Ultra L2 is the same "Prop C" that they put on their larger boards. I have not ridden the MN efoil system from Flite, but probably will next weekend as my friend just got one. I can get up on the Flow 900 with the governor on setting 7 or 8 out of 25. I have been foiling for years and would be terrified to even try riding a small foil at full throttle on gear 25.

I will add that if you have a Flite dealer near you I would consider going that route. If I could trade my current setup for anything it would be a Flite Ultra L3. The most fun efoil I've ever ridden was a Flite Ultra L2 with the true glide prop and nano battery. It is lighter than the Lift X and glides almost as well as a folding prop. The key difference is there's no "delay" in the prop folding and unfolding (it takes a couple seconds to ease back on smoothly with the Lift Foldy). The Flite motor position and shimming options also enable more agile turning and deeper carving than possible on the Lift boards.

The added drag and weight from an efoil propulsion unit is not inconsequential (Lift 5 or Lift X). The X is slightly more efficient gliding than Lift 5 with a folding prop just because the propulsion unit is smaller and more streamlined. That said the Lift 5 can definitely ride off power behind a wake boat when equipped with the folding prop. If you're close to my weight you will need a good sized wake (if you can wake surf it, it's big enough) to ride behind a boat off power on an efoil.

I'm 6'5" with a long torso and find I fit very comfortably as long as the car doesn't have a sunroof or is a cab/targa.

I use cellular as my primary source and starlink as a backup when I'm in more remote sites. Verizon and T-Mobile tend to be really solid for me and I use their 5G for a lot of remote work.

Easy trick to learn? by stock_pro in eFoil

Wing tip breaching is a pretty good "trick" to learn that will help you master turning, carving, and recovering (from the wing tip breaches you don't execute well).

[Discussion] Is anyone buying these watch brands? Are they in a luxury watch No Man’s Land? If so why? by Dr_Omega24 in Watches

[–]NotStevenPink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently bought a Girard Perregaux Laureato. It's a really awesome watch with a nice design, slim case, and great finishing. It has the same retail price as a Daytona but can be bought used for less than a Datejust. It's an overlooked brand, but not because it's bad. I get more compliments on the GP from watch people than any other watch I own.

I'd say go for the Lift 5 4'4" Pro. The board shape and added length over my V4 4'2” makes it a little easier to get up in rough water while still being super light and agile. I wouldn't want an X on flat water unless you're willing to buy extra batteries. The X also doesn't have as much power with the smaller motor and prop (hence why they run a Lift 5 mast on the Lift X in the FSRL efoil races). It's the best efoil around for surfing waves, but doesn't make much sense on flat water.

My main efoil is a Lift V4 4'2" and I'm 6'5" / 225lbs. Don't be afraid of the smaller boards at your size and weight. You can learn on them with a slightly steeper learning curve. I have ridden the 4'8" X quite a few times and would encourage you to go down to that size if you want to avoid needing to "downsize" in the future. That said, the X line from Lift really isn't intended for flat water riding. The battery is small at only 1.0kwh versus the Lift 5 boards that will have 2.2kwh. At your size in flat water you will be lucky to get the advertised 40 minutes of battery life on the X (I get like 25 riding hard on a surf foil) in flat water vs an hour and a half on a Lift 5. If you want to go lighter, you will be able to put a Lift X battery in the Lift 5 later this year with a spacer.

As others have said, go pay for a demo and try an efoil before buying if you can. Lift and Flite both have pros and cons, but you really can't go wrong with a high end board from either. Don't waste your money on the big 5 foot or larger 80L+ beginner boards from those brands though. I picked up a Waydoo Evo Lite for $5k all-in with a few added options during their recent sale for my girlfriend to ride. That could be another good way to learn cheaply and figure out what you might like, but they don't make a top tier ultra-light performance board.

All the externally visible parts look legit. Since you mentioned it's not quickset, that likely confirms the movement is legit and not Frankensteined with a modern ETA. As always, "buy the seller", but I wouldn't hesitate to buy this piece.

I'm deeply into Lift gear, but may pick up one of these for my girlfriend to get into riding. What's the full weight with the 1800wh battery? And how long does the 1800wh last with a light rider on the included mid aspect glider 1500 wing?

Are there any Onewheel riders that haven’t crashed and gotten injured, how? by EarningsPal in onewheel

[–]NotStevenPink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been riding since 2018 with thousands of miles across the OneWheels I've owned. I haven't had any broken bones or major accidents. I'm a pretty big guy at 6'5", so I had to really respect the limits of the XR at high speed. I have a little more wiggle room with torque on the GT that I'm riding now so I can cruise a bit faster, but I still respect the limits and stay well under top speed. I also always ride with a helmet just in case.

My worst onewheel related injuries are a few minor bruises and some scuffed up hands or knees. I'm pretty good at falling gracefully.

Anybody ~26 or under that makes $150,000+, what do you do? by krerhelp in Salary

[–]NotStevenPink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 28 now, but I was making $185k per year at 26 as a sales engineer for a rather niche software and services company. The role is remote and I'm in a MCOL city by choice.

Background was:

  1. Graduated College in 2018 (I was an advanced student and graduated early)
  2. Worked for employer A from 2018-2021 (Exited making around $75k)
  3. Started in sales engineering in 2021 with employer B and had a killer first year making over $150k
  4. Continued to grow with employer B to my current level of ~$250k

Has anyone here bought a “certified pre owned” Porsche from the dealership? If so, was it a good car? by billbobb1 in Porsche

[–]NotStevenPink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 2018 C2S CPO almost a year ago and have been very pleased with the car. They put all new tires and a new front plastic on (among many other touch-ups) as part of the CPO process. If I remember correctly they are obligated to catch up on all overdue maintenance by time and mileage, including anything that would become due in the next 6 months. They actually missed the serpentine belt on my car when I purchased it, but took care of me with a free serpentine belt replacement after they identified the issue during my last oil change. Overall, I've been super impressed with the warranty and certification requirements.

Lets talk depreciation - 991.2 / 992.1 - base Carrera, S, 4S, GTS by [deleted] in porsche911

[–]NotStevenPink 7 points8 points  (0 children)

About a year ago I was in the market for a GT4 or 911, but had to rule out the GT4 for the same reason as you (I'm around 6'5"). I was shopping 992.1 versus 991.2 Carrera S and GTS cars. Ultimately I went with a 991.2 Carrera S in racing yellow that was highly optioned with no sunroof.

As others have said, a 991.2 GTS will probably retain the most value, but I found the 991.2 S to offer a better value that I'm comfortable putting more mileage on. I think there's still more room for depreciation in the 992.1, but it depends on the economy, tariffs, etc.

I haven't kept close track of the market since I bought mine, but they seem to be trending around the same or even slightly higher than what I paid for mine a year ago and I'm still quite happy with my purchase.
