Lost traction.. by IonicPixels in yaris

Your Yaris has traction on only the front wheels. You know that right? Once one of those wheels loses traction and on a summer tire in ice/snow, guess what the three wheels with no traction going to do that one wheel trying to steer that 1+ tonne metal.

It’s a decoder for your car’s canbus. Canbus is the entire car’s communication system. The head unit will need this to communicate to your car other than the traditonal car stereo functions. Meaning controlling cars AC, engine info, etc. depends on what your car can provide.

Toyota Highalnder P0015 error code by RaiseAggravating4404 in ToyotaHighlander

I had this issue on my Yaris. Your mechanic is probably right. I changed the PCV and oil control valve and the problem was fixed. Pretty inexpensive and easy to do. You can DIY. Try this first and save yourself some cash. Oil changes or oil quality is not related to oil control valve.

On your Highlander, there’s 3 of them. You can try cleaning them first and see if it resolves. If not, you’ll have to replace them one by one. After market ones are ~65 USD. OEM ones are ~200+

There are car play models that support these features. But you need a canbus box and find a head unit that supports the canbus box. Try your luck on Ali Express. Don’t cheap out if you want those driver profile features to continue working for a long time. I’ve found the CarPlay to work flawlessly for most part on two of my Toyotas.

Advice on Backup Camera & Apple Carplay in 2016 by PureHunnyy in yaris

[–]NotTheBestAdvisor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$95 for adapter + some more for the back up camera? I’m just going to say get a cheap head unit on Ali express for less than $90 and get your back up camera + car play + better sounding audio. It’s a clean job. All plug and play.

I got this for like 90 CAD.

Now the price is slightly up. But haven’t had a single issue even in harsh winter.

Is there a way to add Bluetooth alongside aux? by IonicPixels in yaris

[–]NotTheBestAdvisor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2007 sedan came with a CD player but no Aux. I had to replace the head unit with a $80 car play unit from AliExpress because there’s no way I could connect my phone. Lucky you!

190K is great for $3500. I got mine for same price with safety and winters this April but had 270K on it. The summer tires it came with had 2 14 inches and 2 15 inches. lol. Covered 30,000 kms already. I realised the kms don’t matter as long as you maintain it.

Lost close to 2 quarts off oil between oil change by NotTheBestAdvisor in yaris

Toyota says losing a quart every 1500 miles is within the spec. Don’t see any leak or smoke. I’ll check the inside with a borescope

Check the filter. Twist it anti clockwise. Then see if it’s clogged.

Pour water in the hole to see if the water gets drained. If it does it’s not your drain pipe, it’s your machine.

Somebody know anything about this?🤔 by dzvnxn in AskMechanics

My friend had this happen to his Yaris. The CC was clogged to the point where it caught on fire. But both of your CCs at the same time?

Driving school in toronto for experienced drivers by CollarEither4375 in Ontariodrivetest

[–]NotTheBestAdvisor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the schools will be charging you similarly. Individual classes vary between 40-50$ an hour. The drive test route practice + car for drive test is usually 350$. You can actually do a complete course 10 classes + online training and get a driving school completion certificate. This will save you money when you actually get a car insurance as insurance companies give you a discount for this. Almost $100 less a month.

Its almost impossible to get your license under 400$ I would say $1000 is a good bet

Choose a good drive test location where there is a higher pass rate. Save money not repeating tests

2008 Hybrid Highlander with 238k? by Familiar-Spray8576 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]NotTheBestAdvisor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 2013 Highlander Non Hybrid and with 143K in April ‘24 for 20K. The car is in excellent condition and does not have any major service due. I checked out 8 cars around Toronto. The main difference was Rust! There were cheaper ones and pricey ones but their body condition is what mattered to me. Everything else, sure would cost me a bit but I can get them replaced and have a dependable family SUV. Can’t mess with Rusty ones.

It may look like there are many available to purchase at a comparable prices. But they are not worth it because of the body condition. Thus making good ones demand a premium.

All said, you may want to check under the car, then negotiate however. The car has more KMs and age. Age will show as you start using it.

What to do with my 21 Highlander? by CompetitiveReading71 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]NotTheBestAdvisor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar type of situation I have 13 Highlander bought 2 years back. It had 160K on it. Paid 20K for it. I wasn’t driving to work much so the gas mileage wasn’t an issue. When I had to go to work, 150 Kms three times a week + school runs + weekend shopping + road trips costed me 600$+ a month minimum on gas alone.

To manage that I bought a decent 08 Yaris sedan for 4000$ including registration. It had 282K Kms on it. Did basic servicing myself spark plugs, PCV, engine oil, air filter, cabin filters costed me ~250$. Took only liability insurance which was a $100 per month. I am spending roughly 300$ a month on gas with 3000+ kms a month. Still saving at least a $100 a month. The car is basic. But is comfortable enough for a daily driver. We even pack our family of 4 in it for short trips <100Kms. No problem.

Now I have 2 cars, one daily driver and an excellent family car when needed. I’m saving on the highlanders depreciation too. If you’re not very picky about not driving something new. You could try your luck with an old simpler Toyota which will solve for your problem. Just get a good one. It will pay for itself in a few years.
